Blondes Have More Fun (At The 2012 VMAs)

Holy bleach! Holy beach! Blonde and tan was the theme of this year’s VMA red carpet. In the spirit of healthy competition we’re going to play a little three-on-three. I’ve grouped the ladies into two teams (based on their lip color, of course): Team Red and Team Nude. And while Team Nude is without a doubt the most visually striking, I think Team Red’s polished, old Hollywood look may lead them to victory in these Blonde vs. Blonde games. Let’s start with Team Nude:

TEAM NUDE: PINK

Pink looked like, well, herself. Her style hasn’t changed much since she swapped pink locks for blonde ones oh-so many years ago, but that’s cool, she has a thing that works and she’s stickin’ to it. Her smoky eye makeup looks great and her lipstick color was spot on. It’s really hard to find the right lip color for the tan skin/white-blond hair combination without looking freakish, so it’s best to go with some version of your natural lip color with a little gloss. This is exactly what Pink did and it looks great.

Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz joined forces tonight on the 2012 VMA stage for an EPIC performance collaboration. And yet, even though that that s*** was seriously cray, we were even more entranced by Lil Tunechi's performance outfit. For one, he did, in fact, appear shirtless, as we had predicted. But the real nugget is that dude's performance steez SMACKS of The Wild Thornberrys. Specifically, Donnie Thornberry, the feral younger brother voiced by Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea.

Taylor Swift Ditches Dresses For A White Pantsuit And Shorts At VMAs

We admit it, we totally expected Taylor Swift to wear a dress to tonight's Video Music Awards. But then again, can you reallyyyy blame us? The girl knows what works best for her, and in the last few years this has meant flirty dresses, statuesque gowns, and a strong red lip. While we give Taylor props for sticking to her guns, we're thrilled to see her stepping out in something new tonight on the VMA red carpet. She looked seriously sophisticated in a white J. Mendel silk crepe pantsuit, paired with Tom Ford sandals and Lorraine Schwartz earrings. The whole outfit: simple, chic, and a perfect example that sometimes less really IS more. Taylor kept things clean on the beauty front as well, wearing a swoop of black liner and her statement red lips. Hey, certain things never change...

Stars: They're just like us, right? Well kind of. They keep their wallets in their pockets and their lipstick in their clutches, and they get excited to dress up for big nights in pretty clothes, just like us, yes. They also get custom bejeweled jumpsuits made for them by designers like Pucci (that's right, Rita Ora, we're looking at you, and you. Look. AMAZING.), so, you know, not so much always. Our main girl, Teen Wolf's Holland Roden got to the bottom of both the lavish and the ordinary, getting the low down on what some of our fave celebs--from Miley Cyrus to The Wanted, Nicki Minaj, and many more--were wearing and what they were carrying in their pockets. We also HAVE to mention the beyond adorable moment when Colton Haynes mock-proposed to Holland. Were we seeing a glimpse into the future? Ugh, we hope so (alternately, marry us, Colton?). Speaking of cute, MTV's newest addition, Snooki's son Lorenzo and his mama meatball stayed home from the festivities (although they did send a shoutout to their many fans) but the many of their fellow Jersey Shore-dwellers were on hand to chat it up on the carpet. Holland also got the first confirmation that lovebirds Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose are indeed expecting their first child in the coming months! There had been much speculation that the couple was expecting, but no formal confirmation until tonight. The VMAs are the hottest place to announce you're preggers, lest we forget our first introduction to Blue Ivy, so it's no surprise. We wonder who it will be next year...Ok enough letting your mind run wild with speculation. Rita Ora Or Nicki Minaj: Who Wore A Sheer Bodysuit Best On The VMA Red Carpet?

Here's the thing—celebs REALLY love sheer bodysuits (see: Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez) and on tonight's VMA red carpet, some of our favorite ladies kept with tradition. Rita Ora and Nicki Minaj both opted for sleek, curve-hugging onesies that had a hint (OK, a buttload) of sex appeal. Rita sported a completely blinged-out custom Pucci number that left us totally speechless. I mean, first off—that is a one deep V, friends. Her sheer black panel extended all the way past her belly button and the rest of her body was totally covered up in sparkly adornments. She paired her show-stopping ensemble with black Christian Louboutin pumps, Cartier jewelry and a matching clutch. She kept her beauty look equally as glam by sporting retro blonde waves with deep burgundy lip and cat eyeliner.

Frank Ocean Makes VMA Performance Debut In All-Black Ensemble

There was absolutely no other 2012 VMA I was singularly more excited to watch than Frank Ocean's stripped down and subdued "Thinkin Bout You." If you weren't already a fan of the soulful crooner before tonight, I hope this, his very first VMA performance, has made you a believer. I could yammer all night about his silky runs, effortless Marvin Gaye-channelling falsetto, and his unmistakable tone, but we're here to talk about FASHUN. Frank isn't one for sartorial theatrics, and his go-to outfits usually consist of graphic tees - maybe a collared shirt, if he's feeling fancy. Tonight, though, he changed things up wearing all-black head-to-toe, save his trademark rising sun bandana.

One Direction Or The Wanted: Which Boy Band's VMA Style Is Best?

Just putting it out there, we HATE playing favorites. But after seeing both One Direction and The Wanted make consecutive appearances on the VMA stage just mere minutes ago, we're seriously torn between the two in a way that we can't quite ignore. Sure, we have a special place in our hearts for Niall, Liam, Harry, Louis and Zayn's earwormy songs and irresistible Brit charm (ahem, and covetable hair). But at the same time, there's just something about The Wanted's rebellious smirks that tugs at our bad boy weakness. Yeah, the same kind of weakness that always made us want to sneak out of the house late at night to meet up with friends back in the day...admit it, you feel it too! Which is why we're dying to know: which boy band had better style at the Video Music Awards tonight?

I'll admit it. I was totally floored when Rihanna showed up at yesterday's 2012 VMA rehearsals with REALLY short hair. (Maybe it has a little something to do with the fact that I haven't changed my hairstyle in approximately eight years, but I digress...) Usually a drastic hair alteration isn't something you want to risk debuting at a major public appearance, but we all know Rih is the Queen of IDGAF and can pull off literally anything she wants. Whoa, are we seeing double? We couldn't BELIEVE how similar singers P!nk and Miley Cyrus looked on the 2012 VMA red carpet! P!nk (the newest face of CoverGirl and Video Music Awards performer) rocked an olive sequin Stella McCartney gown with a sky-high platinum bouffant and shaved sides. Miley, who recently chopped off all her locks, dolled up her sheer black Pucci gown with the exact same hairdo! Both ladies even opted for statement earrings sans necklaces with their gown, plus their beauty game was also totally on-twin. (You know, our new phrase for being on-trend twins.) They sported thick black liner with mile-long lashes, creamy blush, and soft nude lips. Me-ow. But, of course, we have to ask—which beauty look did you like best? Tell us in the comments below!

Demi Lovato Shines In Sequins For Her VMA Pre-Show Performance

We've spent all week placing bets about what Demi Lovato would wear while she performed "Give Your Heart A Break" at tonight's Video Music Awards pre-show. Would she go bold with punchy neon prints a la Versace? Would she work the baroque trend with a lavish embellished number from Balmain? Turns out, she did none of the above and instead pulled out a look she's been killing all summer long on X-Factor- glitter, studs, and lots of leather. She rocked a black minidress, complete with an adorable skater skirt and sparkles all over, literally shimmering onstage as she belted out the track. Paired with studded black booties and an epic embellished motorcycle jacket (seriously, we want one for ourselves, STAT), she stayed totally on-trend with other red carpet faves in dark hues tonight like Miley Cyrus and Ke$ha.
