Fail Proof 4th of July outfit

Yep, it's the time of year where we all stand outside and stare at the sky while we sweat/shiver/get rained on for the sake of cool explosives. Oh, and celebrate our country's independence. But with every Fourth of July comes the inevitable question, "Ugh, what am I gonna wear?" Well, since we're BFFs and all, we did the hard part and put together a fail-proof ensemble that'll be sure to get you through all those outdoor festivities in one piece. Not only is it sweat-proof, rain-proof, non-flammable (seriously), and drunk-proof, it's also comprised of pieces you probably already have in your wardrobe. Let's break it down.

LA Pride

“Happy Pride” said the really attractive girl that I couldn’t actually carry on a conversation with because she was ~2 pretty 2 live~. I’m v. grateful to MTV Style for allowing me the opportunity to take pictures of hotties and cool kids without seeming like a creep.

Dyke Day LA is an all-day picnic that happens in Barnsdall Park right after Dyke March. Since 2008, they’ve been killin it, finally finding a way to mix the cray of Pride weekend with the calm of a family picnic. The general vibe is cool kids, hip families, hot ladies, and a handful of people who pass out flyers/take-out menus? I knew I was about to have the best time because my friend told me she goes every year, and she’s a lot cooler than me.

I had a blast, largely because the music was BANGIN'. I don’t need an excuse to dance to "Problem," but I appreciate being able to do so surrounded by all of the pretty lesbians. Also, everyone is dressed so cool and hip, and I made my friends ask people if I could take their picture.

An interesting fact about me—I can’t talk to hotties. AT ALL. Especially when the hotties are dressed well. At Dyke Day, I was intimidated even more than usual because not only was everyone attractive and cool, but they all seemed intelligent, funny, creative, and hard-working, which means wife material. YOU CAN’T JUST APPROACH YOUR FUTURE WIFE ALL NONCHALANT, YOU KNOW?!

ke$ha born warrior

Bow down to Ke$ha, you Animals.

Animals, tomorrow Ke$ha's Warrior tour returns to North America for her second (!!!) round of U.S. shows, but you probaaably already knew that. If you're like us, you're dying of anticipation. I mean, sure, her amazing (and extremely phallic!) Charles Albert jewelry line debuted earlier this week, but we still need some serious Ke$ha goodness in our lives ASAP. Thankfully, she ran a costume contest where Animals could submit their best Ke$ha-inspired ensembles with the #BornWarrior hashtag on Twitter and Instagram to win FREE tickets to one of her shows. Obvi tons of fans participated, and Ke$ha has chosen two winners! Are y'all ready to see their ensembles? Let's get to it!

Intel International Science and Engineering Fair

You guys, I am officially, 100% not worried about the future at all. Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Phoenix, Arizona, and met a GRIP of #sciencebabies who basically have the whole overpopulation, disease, natural disaster thing under control. Seriously. I am basically poolside writing this entire post in a Hawaiian shirt and sunglasses because I am so relaxed now.

So, the way ISEF works is that 1,600 pre-college kids from 60 countries descend upon the Phoenix Convention Center floor and it's row upon row of roped off booths where each contestant presents their project. Apparently, it's untoward to refer to the shindig as a "science fair" what with more than $3 million in grants and awards at stake, but basically everyone's competing for the Big Prize, a.k.a. the $75,000 Gordon E. Moore Award. The competition is fierce since these dudes have already SMOKED school contests, regional contests and state contests.

The cool thing about the day I visited is that it was the day after the official judgement (postscript: these are the winners) so the vibe was a little more chill. No one yet knew who had won but everyone had presented and tap-danced their faces off the day prior, so they got to unclench and hang out a bit. I even saw a little mild-grade flirting which was cute, reassuring and terrifying when you consider what that means for the following generation of SUPERGENIUSES. Hopefully, they'll be kind rulers.

There's a reason why A-listers, "It" girls, and everyone in between are and always will be obsessed with the floppy hat: it just looks GOOD. From Brigitte Bardot to Elizabeth Olsen to Alexa Chung, these felt toppers remain a closet mainstay because they're stylish, functional, and the secret weapon for getting out of the house sans makeup and with unbrushed hair. And unlike most of the stuff currently taking up space in our wardrobes, you can wear a floppy hat all year round! So grab inspiration from these three style bloggers and get ready to take cover—literally—in the cutest way possible.

Fashion Bloggers polka dots

It's rare to find a print with the staying and smile-inducing power as polka dots, which is why the happy-go-lucky pattern continues to be a constant part of our everyday uniform. Regardless of weather, mood, or if we've been too lazy to do laundry (oops?), polka dot pieces are guaranteed to cheer up any outfit. Solange loves 'em. So does Gaga. The ultimate polka dot lover, Minnie Mouse, was even the "celebrity" muse during Fashion Week! EVERYONE is seeing spots these days, and our current obsession is flaunting them in minis, midis, and maxi-skirts. Need inspiration? Get the long and short of this adorable trend from our top style bloggers below!

I love these two as a couple. What a festive way to celebrate two important events in their life. Mariah looks like a dream.
