If you don't already have a monstrous throbbing crush on our House of Style hosts Joan Smalls and Karlie Kloss, allow me to change that for you with one quick, 1-minute video. We caught a lot of footage gems from our Paris Fashion Week trip with Joan and Karlie that didn't all necessarily fit into our first episode, but instead of keeping all the magic to ourselves, we're letting the extended play videos fly free. First up is one of our favorites which captures Joan and Karlie at their most candid yet, recounting all the words and phrases they know in Italian!
The Fashion Week calendar has these girls jet-setting from New York to London to Milan to Paris back-to-back for a month straight at least two times a year. With all that time spent in other countries, they, of course, have learned bits and pieces of the languages. Joan explains that the three things you should know how to say whenever you travel some place new are: "Thank you," "Hello," and "I'm sorry." Karlie joins in recapping the Italian words she's picked up over the years. Almost all of them are fashion-related except when she lists (totally in jest) "la pasta." More than just an Italian lesson, though, the clip might also give us some clues about how these two will evolve as a hosting pair.
Fronting a show like this is definitely breaking new ground for both Joan and Karlie. That means with every episode and each time they get behind the House of Style microphone, they're settling into their new roles. Karlie comes with tons of energy and Midwestern charm and is adorably loquacious, like, all the time. But don't sleep on Joan Smalls. After Karlie gets reeeeeeally into demonstrating the appropriate way to roll the "R" in "prego," Joan goads her to explain what "prego" means. Karlie mixes up "Thank you" and "You're welcome," and in response, Joan lets out a hilarious flourish of SASS, hamming up the camera while she corrects her. It's the perfect snapshot of Joan assuming the "straight man" to Karlie's comic counterpart. HOWEVER, Kloss has zingers of her own, firing "Alright, Rosetta Stone!" right back at Smalls. The written out play-by-play of their candid banter could never do justice to the real thing, so watch it for yourself below!
