As KatyCats around the world know, today is Katy Perry's 29th birthday! HBD, KP! We hope wherever you go your song "Birthday" is playing, welcoming you into the room. It's not every year your album featuring a song about birthdays coincides with your actual birthday. Embrace, Katy. It's your day. To celebrate Katy's birthday in the best way we know how, we figured we'd dedicate this installment of our weekly Food Friday posts to KP, her birthday, and cake. We searched the 'net for the best cake clothing and accessories out there and rounded them up for your viewing pleasure.
Perhaps you’ve noticed that the ‘90s are back in full effect. From the crop-top takeover of fall Fashion Week to the re-emergence of our favorite pop groups (i.e. *NSYNC, TLC), it’s high time we show some appreciation for the decade now-defined by the World Wide Web. (Yup. The first website was created in 1990, and by 1999, the Internet was mainstream. Free history lesson!) Don’t act like you’re not nostalgic.
There was also a lot of RULL good lady-based pop culture that came out of the ‘90s, so we’ve put together three classic outfits from our favorite female icons for your Halloween enjoyment. (In addition to our picks, we've also rounded up instructions for how to be Daria, The Craft and Cher Horowitz, because we're the bomb like that.) And let’s be honest: it's pretty much the 11th hour in terms of finding a costume, so if you don’t have one yet, you’re praaahbably the kind of person who tends to DIY day-of. Lucky for you, these are PERFECT for that level of laziness. (No offense.) Fashion fiends (or hoarders of epic proportions) will likely have more than half of these costume components in their closet already, so put back those pre-packaged sexy food costumes and start practicing your throwback slang, beyotch.
COREY MASON FROM 'EMPIRE RECORDS'
Photo: Warner Bros./Topshop/ASOS/Charlotte Russe/Target/Staples
We mustn’t dwell. No, not today. Not on
REX MANNING DAY Halloween! Corey Mason (Liv Tyler) was the good girl with a bad streak from Empire Records, the 1995 movie about a group of misfit teens trying to keep an indie record store afloat. Damn the man, save the empire! Corey was a total babe, and is basically the embodiment of '90s comeback trends with her fuzzy cropped sweater, plaid skirt and combat boots. You’re gonna need your store badge to slip into the back room and woo Rex Manning, but don't forget to wear your ~most~ sexy red bra for your grand seduction. (Bonus points if you bake cupcakes for the occasion. After all, there are 24 usable hours in every day.) If that doesn’t work out though, you’ve always got your studies, so make sure to have your notebook handy and lay off those Jesse Spano caffeine pills!
Lady Gaga in Berlin.
Photo: Splash News
Ummm. Someone left her Berlin hotel earlier today in this "outfit." Any guesses? No, it is not Michelle Obama. Nope, it's not Miley Cyrus. Yes, it IS LADY GAGA! DING DING DING. Yesterday, she walked around with a claw in an airport, and today, she's walking around Berlin in this blonde merkin mask. She knows Halloween is next Thursday, right? So awkward.
Outfit-wise, she has on a chartreuse trench coat dress with fur sleeves, but NO 1 CURR about her clothes when that is on her head. I mean. Seriously, what is that? A hat? A mask? A disguise because she's about to go commit a robbery? Maybe a closer look will help us understand what's going on up there.
Happy 27th birthday, Drake! Here, we got you this bespoke Calvin Klein wardrobe for your “Would You Like A Tour” tour. Generous, we know. You’re welcome! JK JK LOL, we WISH that had been our idea. We considered making you bespoke cupcakes in your likeness, but quickly realized that our baking skills are lacking. Your face is hard to draw with frosting! It's the thought that counts though, right? Lucky for Drake, he is actually getting custom stage outfits by CK (just not from us).
Beyonce on set at her 2014 calendar shoot.
Photo: Beyonce's YouTube Page
As if we weren't excited enough about Beyonce's first-ever calendar, this morning B released a behind-the-scenes video of the calendar shoot. We love nothing more than a behind-the-scenes video but add Beyonce? This is all of our fave things wrapped up in one perfect package.
As a member of the Ever-Changing Hair Club™ (other members include Rihanna and Rita Ora), Bey's hair changes with each outfit/month of the calendar. The first 'do we see is platinum, which matches her entirely white outfit. Maybe this shot is for August as a reminder to wear all your white—even together, like B!—before Labor Day.
Demi Lovato for 'Glamour Mexico.'
Photo: 'Glamour Mexico'
For the November cover of Glamour Mexico, Demi Lovato sets her leather jackets aside and instead, opts for old Hollywood allure (which is all the rage right now, BTW). Wearing a mauve, ruffle-front keyhole gown, the "Let It Go" singer's classic look get accessorized with chunky, crystal-drop earrings, a single gold ring and matching scarlet nails and lips. AH-OO-GA! *cue cartoon-y eyes popping out from their sockets* Doesn't she look lovely? Demi's long locks are set with thick, glamorous blonde waves. Guess we still need to wait a little longer for her new blue hair to make its editorial debut.
Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, and Rihanna prefer the no shirt look.

Looks like Rihanna's fave fall trend is catching on, y'all! That's right, we're talking no shirts, no bras, no problem. At least, no major problems. Yet. The trend has now spread from Rih to Nicki Minaj to Mariah Carey and while they're all approaching it differently, the fundamentals are the same: 1.put on pants and/or shorts, 2. do not put on a bra, 3. do not put on a shirt, 4. put on a jacket, and, finally, 5. close the jacket a little bit, whether by button or zipper, and then do yo thang.
Pharrell and Solange at the eBay Today launch
Photo: Getty Images
Solange and Pharrell both have inimitable style, and each artist is almost known as much for their fierce fashion sense as they are for their music. (Almost.) So, it's no wonder that eBay tapped the two (along with a slew of other influential creatives) to curate personal collections for the site's new social element, eBay Today.
Today allows users to create profiles and collections (not unlike Pinterest), filled with inspirational/want-worthy items found around eBay. But the best part is, you can ~actually~ buy the things people post—including items directly plucked up by Knowles and Williams. SO. COOL. To help you get started down the rabbit hole of inspirational shopping, we picked out five of the coolest items from both artists' collections. Check them out after the jump, and visit eBay Today to peep the site's newest feature in full.
Jennifer Lawrence on the cover of 'Elle' France.
Um, you guys, do you know what comes out in less than a month (officially as of yesterday)? CATCHING FIRE! Elle France snagged Katniss Everdeen herself, a.k.a. Jennifer Lawrence, and a wind machine (we plebes know it as a fan) for their October cover. Unlike J.Law's Vogue cover, where her shorter crop was on display, her hair here is Katniss-braid long, but it's blonde and not the deep chocolate color Katniss is known for. Her makeup is also very Katniss-esque, read: barely there. Like, she has some light rose lip color, and that's it. The lighting and focus on the cover is soft: Jennifer barely looks bothered by the wind that is tousling her hair a lot. Probz why she has that Oscar.
Fashion-wise, Jenn could be wearing a plain black t-shirt for all we know, though based on the inside spread, which, BTW, features Dior and only Dior, it seems pretty likely that something elaborate is going on out of frame.
