Solange for 'Harper's Bazaar.'
Photos: Harper's Bazaar
Here we were thinking Solange just grabs whatever is in her closet and heads out the door (you know, ***Flawless style). But in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she reveals there's actually a method to her covetably fearless bright dressing. Sol says, "You can pull images of me from seven to 14 years ago and I was absolutely nuts. I have always been drawn to interesting pieces and colors, but I didn't quite know how to limit myself and make those statement pieces work." Solange doesn’t exactly give away her magic in the pages of the feature, but she does hint that reorganizing her closet helped her "develop a style that felt like [her]."
You know what your Thursday needs? A sweet, sweet R&B slow jam. Listen, I know Boyz II Men's "I'll Make Love to You" is a pretty aggressively ~seductive~ track to wedge into your work/school week, but just be glad I'm dispatching this toward the end of your day and not at 9 a.m. while you're finishing up your bagel and cream cheese. Also, it is EXTREMELY underrated in the universe of music video style. Since you likely don't remember this one off the top of your head, I'm breaking this #TBT down for you look by look.

Hey, remember when the Backstreet Boys were all lined up and glowing in pristine linens in an airplane hangar for their "I Want It That Way" video? Boyz II Men's above look predates that by five years. Fittingly for the early '90s, the dudes are working with bizarro, boxy-tailored pieces, and Wanya Morris in a jacket and trousers with a mismatched vest, and Michael McCary in a sleeveless vest with a Nehru collar. Also, some sort of cane and/or rain stick. IDK what's up with that. I don't remember that being a trend then.
Pharrell is teaming up with Comme des Garcons.

Pharrell Williams, the great collaborator, has just added another joint project to his résumé: a unisex fragrance with Comme des Garcons. From Daft Punk to BAPE, he has a knack for bringing established entities into his creative ecosystem and helping bring forth a beautiful, refreshing take on something you already loved. But he's more than just the ultimate remix artist; his collaborative projects are so wildly successful because of his ability to marry his own original creative sensibilities with a keen eye for curation—he knows precisely the best elements of a sound or an aesthetic to elevate. For all of the above reasons, we're SO excited about this forthcoming scent. The only thing we're disappointed about is: We sort of feel like we should have seen this coming.
Oh, hello. You thought because it's Saturday that Fashion Week would stop? Nope! #FASHUN never sleeps, especially not during #NYFW. Which is great news, because we have another day with Jarvis Derrell of #shehashadit breaking down Fashion Week street style for us. If you missed his Day One post, you can check it out here—otherwise, enjoy Day Two below!

Good news, everyone! It's Fashion Week again, and that means two things for us at MTV Style: street style and Jarvis Derrell. Last NYFW, we had Jarvis break down his fave street style looks the #shehashadit way, and we're bringing him back to do it again. I mean, how could we not? We pick up all our best hashtags from Jarvis, and after reading his posts, you too will be #EDUCATED. Below is his Day One dispatch, check back all week for more!
Yaaaaaaaassssss, Kiesha, yaaaaaaasssss!!!! Guuuurrrrlll, YUUUPPP, it's that's time again!!! You know it's New York Fashion Week, when you see all the nice quiet white girls with blogs go put on everything in their closets, take the 2/3 train down to Lincoln Center, and do everything possible to pretend to be surprised by a sensible swarm of photographers taking their photos!!!! YAAAASSSS, I'm obsessed!!!! Sooo excited for a full week of street fashion and the epic poses they go hand and hand with!!! Here are a few of my favorites!

The full frontal "my body is a canvas, therefore my eyes are dead" straightforward glance into oblivion, and the crown jewel of poses, the "broken baby-doll, heavy clutch, hard life, where am I" pose!!!!! EKKKKK, Kiesha, I'm just so excited gurl!!! #shesabouttohaveit #putonyourbestlisafrank #runtolincolncenter #illbethere #livingforallofit #nojudgement #justlove #haha #sorta #namaste
Solange just released a TON of sneak-peek pics from her "Girls of Blaze" Disc Collection campaign for Puma, and you better grab your sunglasses because this ish is BRIGHT. Her debut as art director for the sporty kicks brand dropped in November, and while the focus there was prints on prints on prints, these ads are all about color on color on color. And we are INTO IT.
Lady Gaga on the March cover of 'Harper's Bazaar.'
Photo: Harper's Bazaar
After being noticeably absent from our lives thus far in 2014, Lady Gaga has resurfaced on the cover of Harper's Bazaar. While we've missed the multi-outfit days of November, between the spread and interview, there is a ton of fashion in this piece. There's prob enough to tide us over for, like, at least a week.
The spread was shot by Gaga BFF Terry Richardson, and on the cover she rocks a short blonde 'do and no shirt. She's not Miley-level nekkid—she has on a sparkly Saint Laurent jacket. And after staring at this picture for a few minutes, I'm honestly not sure what you could wear under that jacket, so no shirt seems pretty reasonable, IMHO.
Beyonce and Rita Ora go head-to-head.

Given Beyonce and Rita Ora’s penchant for up-and-coming designers, and their masterful ability to pull off both quirky streetwear and red carpet glitz, it’s somewhat amazing that they haven’t stepped out wearing the same thing more than twice. The first look they shared was Norma Kamali’s logo-emblazoned motocross outfit, which Bey wore in the video for “Pretty Hurts.” Now they’re both repping Karl Lagerfeld’s tartan biker jacket.
On a recent Instagram spree under her new music label’s account, Saint Heron, Solange Knowles posted some very sunny pictures of her wearing her signature bright colors and showing off her flair for pattern mixing. But after a little sleuthing, it appears that these looks could be from a photoshoot with Cosmopolitan for their March 2014 issue, which would make total sense. Solange has always had a knack for springtime style. In fact, her wardrobe is like a how-to guide for wearing pastels without looking like a bag of Easter M&Ms. Those who suffer from all-black wardrobes and a fear of bold colors (*achem* what has two thumbs?), take note!
Judging by this spread and Miley Cyrus’ recent new look, slip dresses are poised for greatness this spring. Solange embraces the trend with a canary-yellow DKNY dress, only instead of going full-on ‘90s with a shag cardigan, hers is minimally styled with satin peep-toe mules from Sportmax and Jennifer Fisher rings. (Fun fact: J. Fisher is also a favorite of Sol's sister, Beyonce, who wore the brand to the Grammys with her Michael Costello gown.)
Welcome back, classic Lady Gaga! In a video clip to promote ticket sales for her upcoming ARTPOP Ball Tour in the UK, Mother Monster brought back a look from her "Poker Face" days with a platinum, full-bang hairstyle, her signature pointy shoulder pads, and indoor sunglasses (of course). Little Monsters will be pleased to know they can dust off their The Fame-era wigs. It's OK, Monsters, you can temporarily retire your smeared white face- and body powder. It was too hard to copy on an everyday basis anyway.
