Welcome to another edition of Food Friday. This week we were inspired by the newest collab between Miss Lily's, a Jamaican restaurant down in the Soho neighborhood of New York, and your '90s boyfriend's favorite surf brand Stüssy. A killer capsule collection to go along with my oxtail stew and rotis? I can't think of anything better. However, it did get us thinking what the results between some of our favorite streetwear lines and foods would be. We hope you like the fruits of our labor.
BIG GAY ICE CREAM x LAZY OAF:
Source: Big Gay Ice Cream/ Art: MTV Style
Lazy Oaf is known for their bright cherry colors, and a penchant for playful prints loaded with pizza, pineapples and an assortment of sweets (including ice-cream) seems like an obvious combo for East Village favorite Big Gay Ice Cream. You know what else is obvious? A Lazy Oaf x Tyler the Creator combo. Did someone say threesome? Throw in a Salty Pimp (I'm serious, that's what it's called), and call it a day. Also highly recommended: the Cococone.
Pharrell is teaming up with Comme des Garcons.

Pharrell Williams, the great collaborator, has just added another joint project to his résumé: a unisex fragrance with Comme des Garcons. From Daft Punk to BAPE, he has a knack for bringing established entities into his creative ecosystem and helping bring forth a beautiful, refreshing take on something you already loved. But he's more than just the ultimate remix artist; his collaborative projects are so wildly successful because of his ability to marry his own original creative sensibilities with a keen eye for curation—he knows precisely the best elements of a sound or an aesthetic to elevate. For all of the above reasons, we're SO excited about this forthcoming scent. The only thing we're disappointed about is: We sort of feel like we should have seen this coming.
KAWS' Companion and the 2013 VMA KAWS Moonman.
Photo: MTV/Wendy Heisler
Heads up, Brooklyn! On Sunday, August 25, the VMAs are setting up shop at the Barclays Center for this year's night of doling out music video honors—the first major awards show to ever take place in BK. This being SUCH a landmark occasion, we had to make it special, so for the first time in the show's 30-year history, the Moonman is getting a one-time makeover courtesy of New York-based artist Brian Donnelly, better known as KAWS.
MTV News' James Montgomery caught up with the design icon at his Brooklyn studio, both to peep the special-edition statuette which reimagines the OG Moonman in combination with KAWS' Companion—the grayscale, Mickey Mouse-inspired skull-and-crossbones character—right down to the double button-front shorts and to chat about the artist's ties to Brooklyn. Technically, KAWS grew up in Jersey City, then moved to Manhattan's Lower East Side for school before eventually moving to BK, but he's laid claim to the borough for the past 13 years. Therefore, it totally counts. Also, words alone can't accurately convey how stoked we are to fold Donnelly and his inimitable aesthetic into our VMA history, so we'd probably fudge the details to make it work no matter what. (JK, we'd never lie to you!)

This morning, Kim Kardashian gave boyfriend Kanye West the ULTIMATE Father's Day present: reportedly giving birth to their brand new baby girl and officially making him a dad just in time for the holiday! Ye may have his hands full at the moment with the much-anticipated release of his Yeezus album right around the corner, but he's also made explicitly clear just how excited he is to be a father. Knowing Yeezy, we think it's pretty safe to say that this baby girl is going to be better dressed than most fully developed humans, and the likelihood that much of her closet will be stocked with exclusive one-of-one pieces is extremely high. New momma Kim said it best during a guest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live earlier this year, "If anyone knows Kanye, they just know how into fashion he is, and I think he’s going to have things, like, specially made. I don’t think hand-me-downs are going to work. I think it has to be, like, really fun stuff." We've heard scant of this "really fun stuff" since then, but if Mr. West is fielding suggestions, we have a few.
BAPE debuts 20th anniversary t-shirts designed by 20 creative figures, including Pharrell.

Earlier this month we spilled the exciting news that streetwear label A Bathing Ape was teaming up with some of our favorite creative types— 20 of them, in fact!— on a special edition collection of tees and artwork to ring in the brand's 20th anniversary. And sure, we all know that BAPE is no stranger to rad partnerships, but an epic celebration like this one means the roster of collaborators is NEXT LEVEL awesome. We're talking about everyone from music heavyweights like Kanye West and Pharrell, to artists like Futura and Stash, to fashion players like Jun Takahashi and Daisuke Obana. Each of these highly diverse (but equally cool) style setters have all placed their signature stamp on the new crop of not-so-basic white crewnecks.

Twenty years ago today (exactly!), A Bathing Ape designer Nigo opened his very first store "Nowhere" in Harajuku, Tokyo. Since then, BAPE has risen to legendary status as a streetwear mainstay. Over the course of the past twenty years, the label has collaborated with a laundry list of entities from iconic characters (Hello Kitty, SpongeBob Square Pants) to mega brands (Pepsi, MAC) to artist heavy-weights like Kanye West and Pharrell Williams. In celebration of this major 20th anniversary, a select group of 20 artists, including Skateboard P and the (former) Louis Vuitton Don, will collaborate with BAPE on a range of T-shirts and art.

It's no secret that we at MTV Style are head-over-heels in love with Kreayshawn. I mean, what's not to love, y'all? A great eye for style, killer eyeliner skills, swag pumping out her ovaries, and, oh yea, she's been IMMORTALIZED in BAPEd-out fashion! We told you the BAPE x Kreayshawn limited edition tees were on their way, but that's not where the streetwear meets Oakland rapper collisions end. i-D magazine caught up with Kreay during a visit to the London flagship store, shot some video and photos, and thankfully, shared the wealth with the Interwebz.
Rita Ora on the August/September issue cover of 'Complex.'

Phew, is it hot in here? Nope, our AC is on full blast, it's just these photos of Rita Ora on the cover of Complex. The British singer looks gorgeous as ever in her signature red lip, heavy cat eye and dark brows, punctuated by her beyond-enviable, super shiny blonde mane. For the cover shoot the mag put Rita in a sherbet colored, skin tight, two piece, crop-top-mini-skirt combo and a pair of black sneaker wedges, all by adidas x Opening Ceremony, and accessorized the look with bold bracelets by Ben Amun and Cartier, and an enormous watch, also by Cartier. The Back To School-themed shoot shows the 21 year old songbird traipsing around a library in a cropped Minimarket sweater and a pair of Monrow shorts, showing off that combination of street wear and sleek, sophisticated style that we love Rita for.

It's official, Internet. BAPE is certifiably NOT a brand for basic bishes. (As if that was ever up for discussion...) Coinciding with the release of her Something About Kreay album, Kreayshawn has teamed up with the street wear brand for a set of limited edition BAPE x Kreayshawn t-shirts. The tees feature BAPE hallmark bold bubble lettering, Baby Milo, and a Baped illustration of Kreay complete with nose ring, door-knocker earrings, and Oakland Raiders gear. The shirts are expected to hit BAPE London stores and BAPE's ecommerce site on June 23, 2012. Along with the late-June drop date, the London BAPE Store will hold a special in-store event on July 5, so if you're across the pond around then, we suggest you deeeeefinitely hit that up!
