Besides a horde of pubescent boys wielding lightsabers (and our own, non-lightsaber wielding senior editor) descending upon San Diego for Comic-Con, the city also played host to basically everyone who has ever mattered ever. (Not really. Jared Leto wasn't there. But a whole heap of our fashion faves were.) Though the Con is more for dressing WAY up as Batman or letting your casual flag fly, a couple of our leading ladies took the time to demonstrate that being a geek doesn't mean you aren't chic well-dressed in killer heels. Check out our best-dressed list for Comic-Con below—and if, like us, you are craving a Kristen Stewart fix with shaky hands and pasty skin, we cover her totally cool (and affordable!) Comic-Con outfit here.

Guys. Let's give it up for shoes. Not just these shoes, though. I'm talking every. shoe. in. the. world. Every shoe there is, there has been, and ever will be. From the most Louvre-worthy stiletto masterpiece to the trustiest love-worn pair of flip-flops. Let's put our hands together for every heel, sandal, and sneaker we've ever known or loved. Because let's face it. Shoes all too often play second fiddle to the rest of the ensemble. So much blood, sweat, and tears goes into crafting an outfit that sometimes it's just easier to throw on a pair of simple shoes to cap things off. And the shoes, well, they don't complain. They're there for you, the foundation that you walk on, keeping your tootsies safe from debris and broken glass and rusty tetanus-waiting-to-happen nails etcetc. But that doesn't mean they don't want the spotlight every once in a while, you know? Well, in this week's Shoe Update, three ladies who know how that feels give their shoes the center stage: Lucy Punch, Rutina Wesley, and Janina Gavankar.

Kirsten Dunst at a Bulgari party in Milan, Italy on Feb. 25.
Photo: Getty Images

• Some of our ultimate fashion faves celebrate their birthday this week: On Saturday, actress (and super 'dorbs Band Of Outsiders model) Kirsten Dunst turned 29, and today, legendary designer Donatella Versace turns 56 years old. Let's hear it for the girls. {Opening Ceremony}

• We've seen about FIVE seconds of the new Lady Gaga "Judas" music video and we're already FUH-REAKING out. Bandana + leather jacket = seriously hot biker chic ensemble. Tune in to the uncut version this Thursday on E! for the full fashion rundown. {Perez Hilton}

Proenza Schouler will launch a costume jewelry line that will be "seasonless and classic." Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez hope to debut the line by the upcoming pre-collection season. More rope necklaces, please. At reasonable prices. Kthx. {Fashionologie}

• Nothing but absolute elegance at The White House Correspondents' Dinner. Our favorite looks? Mila Kunis in a sleek black Versace dress (with back pockets, no less), Anna Paquin in a to-die-for one shoulder Hervé L. Leroux gown, and Scar Jo in a super springy green Elie Saab. {InStyle}

• It's Mother's Day this weekend, and Gucci made a bag specifically for the occasion. While the cause behind the limited-edition tote is charitable and wondrous (25% of the purchase goes to UNICEF), we're... well... seriously underwhelmed by the silhouette itself. It's surprisingly boring. {WWD}

• Uuuuuuum, Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci's religion-inspired Visionaire issue that he guest edited will cost $495. The book will come bundled in a wooden box meant to resemble an alterpiece. Would you drop serious dollars on this? Can we get Shrouds of Turin in there, too or what? {The Cut}

• We love a good, clean, high bun. Check out Lauren Conrad and Jamie Chung perfectly rocking this no-fuss up-sweep. Who do you think wore it better? {Teen Vogue}

The 2011 Oscars red carpet was just the beginning. Nominees plus dozens of other celebs slipped into their cutest cocktail dresses for the Vanity Fair Oscars Party, one of the most coveted post-Academy Awards tickets in Hollywood.

SHOWSTOPPERS: A memo must have gone out! There was a TON of crimson at the Oscars, and the scene was much the same at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party. Zoe Saldana wore a Prabal Gurung fuchsia and red frock, Selena Gomez slipped into a body-lengthening Dolce & Gabbana gown, Anna Kendrick wore a ruffled scarlet Notte by Marchesa dress, and Anna Paquin rocked a ballet-inspired Monique Lhuillier dress.

THRILL OF THE LACE: Nothing says glamour like a little lace. Mia Wasikowska (in Stella McCartney), Zooey Deschanel (in Valentino), Ginnifer Goodwin (in Erdem), and Jena Malone (in a sleeveless, tummy-"showing" cocktail dress) chose to drive the point home in A LOT of the feminine fabric.

AU NATUREL: You'd think that wearing a dress that matches your skin tone would completely wash you out and make you look like a blob of, well, beige. But it was quite the opposite for Jessica Biel (in a strappy Versace gown), Gwyneth Paltrow (in the same Michael Kors gown she performed in at the Oscars), Taylor Swift (in a Zuhair Murad minidress), and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (in a Valentino Haute Couture dress). These stars glowed!

SINGING THE BLUES: Our new fashion theory is that ANYONE can dazzle in a blue hue. Enter: Rosario Dawson in a high-slit Diane von Furstenberg dress, Lea Michele in a long-sleeve sparkling Roberto Cavalli gown, and Dianna Agron in an ankle-length, flowing frock by J. Mendel.

TAKE THE PLUNGE: One thing's for sure—a lot of double-sided tape was used last night to keep the deep necklines of Claire Danes' cream Calvin Klein dress, Emma Roberts' sparkling Jenny Packham creation, and Gabrielle Union's stunning Diane von Furstenberg purple dress in place.

CHIC FRILLS: You have to be careful with ruffles, as there's a fine line between classy and trashy, but these ladies pull them off. Rashida Jones (in Valentino), Selita Ebanks (in red and beige one-shoulder dress), Amanda Seyfried (in Valentino), and Cameron Diaz (in Carolina Herrera), looked uber-ladylike in their perfectly frilly frocks.

PRINTS CHARMING:We know that trends come in threes (at least). But we were so mesmerized by Emma Stone's short-sleeved Chanel Haute Couture dress and Lourdes Leon's AllSaints Aztec minidress that we couldn't help but mentioning. You like, right?

We were a hung jury on whether red eye shadow was hot or not until we spotted Rihanna at the 2010 EMA on Nov. 7, Emma Roberts at the 2010 Teen Choice Awards on Aug. 8, and Anna Paquin at the 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards on Aug. 29 rocking the daring look. OK, confession: We tried (ONCE!) to wear the grenadine hue on our lids, and it looked more rash-like than avant-garde. So not cute. Turns out we were doing it all wrong. "Red eye shadow can be scary for people, but if you apply it in the right way it can really make eyes pop," says Hannah Murray, a Topshop makeup artist.

Here's how to ace the lid look...

Like Rihanna
For a fresh approach, sweep a single layer of red shadow — try Topshop Matte Eyes in Painted ($14, Topshop.com) — from lashline to the crease of your eyelid. Then pile black mascara (we're talking three+ coats) on your top lashes only.

Like Emma Roberts
Dab your shadow brush in water before applying. Glide the shadow on as a thick, sheer eyeliner on the top and bottom lash line, with lots of mascara on top lashes.

Like Anna Paquin
Apply the grenadine shadow over the eyelid, blending outward slightly. Smudge a little black kohl eyeliner like Smashbox Limitless Eye Liner in Onyx ($19, Smashbox.com) into the top and bottom lashes and inside the rim of your eye to create a cool-with-attitude look.

+ Are you ready to try red eye shadow?

As temperatures drop, we're seeing a rise in the number of celebs wrapping themselves in funky, chunky knit sweater dresses. And, it makes sense — the look is both rugged and refined at the same time, plus a sweater dress is one of the most versatile pieces you'll ever own. Here are the looks we're getting cozy with this winter. Which is your favorite?

DRESSED UP AND SPARKLY: Model Chanel Iman belted an oversize, short-sleeve sweater dress for the opening of the Chanel SoHo Boutique on Sept. 9 in New York City. For an extra pop of color, she slung a bright red bag over her shoulder. To get the look, try this Grace Elements Sweater Dress ($159, macys.com).

ROCK AND ROLL: Anna Paquin gave us edge at Spike TV's Scream 2010 event on Oct. 16 in a flouncy knit dress, which she paired with black pumps and two cuff bracelets. Look tough and stuff in Apart Studded Sweater Dress ($128, apartstyle.com).

SOFT AND STRUCTURED: At a book signing on Oct. 6, Nicole Richie wore a military green turtleneck sweater dress with black tights and high-heel booties. We love the Dolman-esque pointy shoulder pads! Slip on this Merona Collection Merino Wool Turtleneck Sweater Dress ($47.99, target.com) for a similar look.

LIGHT AND LAYERED: It looks like Natalie Portman got creative with a thin, gray knit dress, by pulling it over a flouncy white minidress. Keep things simple in this Marc by Marc Jacobs Pattie Sweater Dress ($248, saksfifthavenue.com).

CASUAL AND CHIC: Katy Perry's gray knit sweater dress, accented with tan leather shoulder and arm details, is the perfect throw-it-on-and-go getup. This AKA New York Medallion Crew Sweater ($160, shoplesnouvelles.com) is similar, and perfect for weekend wear. Just pair it with some leggings and you're all set.

Judging from the manicures we saw at last night's Emmy Awards, black nail polish is following in the footsteps of the Little Black Dress as a style staple that works winter-spring-summer-fall. The bad-girl hue showed up on the tips of Lea Michele and matched her Oscar de la Renta gown, as well as Anna Paquin, who matched the color with her Alexander McQueen dress. January Jones also swiped on a darker color against her bright blue Versace gown, while Heidi Klum matched her manicure to her black Marchesa dress.

If you're apprehensive about wearing the moody shade on a sunny summer day, try this trick for a less vampy look: File nails short (tips should be flush with fingertips) and use a matte black like Knock Out Polish in Flatte Black ($19, koknockout.com). After it's completely dry, buff nails for a satin finish.
