Mule Emojis

Mules be everywhere.
Illustration: Joshua Covarrubias

The mule emoji has it rough. It's often overlooked as it sits next to the striking, bright red stiletto, which frequents exciting text messages like, "Just went shopping!!!" or "Let's go out, betches!!!" But IRL, the nude mule is actually super hot right now. The thick '90s peep-toe heel in a solid, neutral tone is making a serious comeback as the go-to warm-weather shoe, and we've got buttloads of proof. First up, a pair of nude mules from Topshop ($110) that look like an exact replica of the original emoji. (It's kinda freaky.) The coolest part? That heel is actually metallic gold! Urban Outfitters ($100) also carries a stacked wooden heel version, which is perfect for everyday use.

Photo: Beyonce's Instagram

Leave it to Beyonce to give the world an exclusive sneak peek of her hubby’s highly anticipated and buzzed about holiday collection with luxury retailer Barneys. While the power couple attended a launch event at the flagship store in New York City to celebrate Jay Z’s latest collaboration, Beyonce took to Instagram to rep her man in all-Shawn-Carter-everything. Now ladies, if you caught yourself singing, "If I were a boyyyyyy, I'd shop Barney's Holiday Collection, too", don't fret. Beyonce is out to prove that Jay's got something for the ladies, too.

Let's start from the top. Beyonce is rockin’ the heck out of that snapback isn't she?! Now, this is no ordinary fitted, Barneys' Mixed Exotics Brooklyn Cap is a python brimmed leather Just Don sports cap with a $875 price tag. Then, there’s her sporty puffer jacket. This limited edition leather-sleeved varsity jacket is crafted with black channel-quilted nylon and costs a whopping $2,295. But money ain't a thang when you've got pockets like the Carters, right?

The countdown to prom is ON. Yesterday we hooked you up with some amazing dresses that can be yours for under $150, and today we're upping the ante just a little bit more. While it TOTALLY doesn't matter how much you spend on your dress, just the way that you wear it, prom is a big deal and sometimes you want to be a little spendier. There are TONS of low priced options that will have you snatching prom queen crowns all over town, but we also found some breathtaking options between $150 and $350 that will guarantee you're the belle of the ball. From totally trendy to completely classic, the 10 dresses we're going to show you have a little something for everyone.

When searching for dress inspiration, we love to think back to some of our favorite historical eras. Now, we're not encouraging dressing up in a costume, but if you don't have the option to hunt for the perfect vintage piece, looking for more modern frocks in old timey cuts or styles can be a great way to get the look you're longing for. One of our favorite eras to pull from is the roaring 20's, when flapper style was all the rage. Sheaths, drop waists and, most essentially, beading were big in the era, and there are some great new options for you to effortlessly channel your inner Daisy Buchanan. In a classic drop waist sheath silhouette, we love ASOS' Frock and Frill Sequined Embellished Dress with Deep V Back ($244.44). For a more red carpet feel, the Adrianna Papel Beaded Gown ($260) sets our hearts aflutter. And finally, somewhere between period and modern is the Pisarro Nights Beaded Mesh Gown ($198)

Chelsea Leyland.
Photo: Aimee Blaut/

If you're a true downtown New Yorker, you're probably wannabe BFFs with DJ/Model/It Girl Chelsea Leyland. *Raises hand enthusiastically.* The English transplant is everywhere (really cool and invite-only) these days, perpetually blasting bangers at many a Fashion Week fete whilst getting PYT's in their return-of-the-'90s rave looks (see also: Baby Spice Buffaloes, magenta lip liner and electric blue/Ninja Turtle green brows) into a dance-floor, k-hole, marvelous mess. Even if you didn't get that coveted invite, you'll never escape Leyland: she's the babe smizing/working a blonde mane, plastered all over graffiti-covered buildings as the face of Cole Haan's 2012 Fall campaign. There's this duh-factor, too: Leyland's style game is on head-turning kind of proportions, with a closet overflowing with duds from witchy design divas like Alexander Wang and Katie Gallagher. But, as she reveals in this week's Favorite Things, Leyland knows that it's all about the details, and spices up her looks with a good lip-liner and a killer heel. FYI: homegirl's chic interpretation of "kitten heel" via designer Charlotte Olympia resulted in us giving a sartorial standing ovation/maxing out credit cards over here at the MTV Style HQ. She better work!

Lady Gaga Barneys Workshop Kerin Rose

A-Morir by Kerin Rose spike moto gloves.

YOU GUYS. The Lady Gaga Workshop at Barneys opens TONIGHT. For those of you who have been checking out the countdown, you will notice that the final Gaga goodie is a leather glove made by none other than MTV Style pal and frequent Nicola Formichetti/Haus of Gaga collaborator, Kerin Rose. Kerin makes a painfully gorgeous, super sparkly eyewear collection dubbed A-Morir By Kerin Rose but she also custom makes masks, teacups, spiked hoodies, jewelry, and basically a litany of other wonderfully crafted works of art that make you feel like opposable thumbs and fine motor skills were wasted on you.

We caught up with the flame-tressed designer to chat about how long she's been in cahoots with the Gaga x Barneys project, what you can expect to see at the pop up shop's unveiling, and why you don't have to be racked with guilt should you drop a highly irresponsible amount of cash buying heaps of presents from this particular spot.

Jem and the Holograms.
Photo: Courtesy of Hasbro/Marvel Productions

Wowowowowowowowoowowwowow I love Jem SO HARD. I love being, all, "Showtime Synergy!" and acting like I'm harnessing the projection power of my earrings to create an all-girl holographic pop/rock band. It's so awesome. Oooooooor trulytrulytruly outrageous, AMIRITE???? Only thing is, other than remembering that Jem had ridic long legs and the best outfits and flyest makeup (even though it was for her Second Life avatar of a frontwoman more than in IRL) I kiiiiiinda don't remember anything about the show at all which is why it's so helpful that they're on the air again with a repeat of the FIRST EPISODE tonight on Hub. Like, par example of crap I forgot: um, did you know her father dies and leaves her a record company AND a foster home that she has to financially support? Weird. Thanks, dad.

Emma Watson is the model for People Tree's fall 2010 collection! Though she said she had no part in the design, she did admit to helping to choose fabrics for the fair-trade clothing label. Caleb Followill of Kings of Leon and Nick Valensi of The Strokes.
Photo: Getty Images

Every rock star seems to live in leather jackets, and we're always wondering where they got them. For Kings of Leon frontman Caleb Followill and The Strokes' guitarist Nick Valensi, now we know: 3.1 Phillip Lim. Both rockers own the same brown motorcycle jacket from the designer's fall 2010 collection (see the original runway look below). And they even wear their jackets to the same event! On August 15, Caleb performed in the outerwear at the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival in San Francisco, and layered his jacket over an unbuttoned, plaid shirt and white V-neck tee (though, he threw off the jacket during his set). Just one day earlier, The Strokes guitarist Nick Valensi took the stage at the same festival in the same jacket, which he wore with a black tee and jeans. The jacket itself isn't cheap — it sells for $1,100 online at And while Caleb and Nick's jackets are a beautiful shade of brown that's totally fall, the jacket also comes in black for another version of this classic rocker look (which is a mighty fine look, if we may say so ourselves).

+ Who looks better — Caleb or Nick?
