Mark McNairy

One of the guaranteed highlights of New York Fashion Week, at least for us here at MTV Style, is the Mark McNairy show. Without fail, his designs are this perfect combination of brazenly irreverent but just practical enough to wear out of the house without feeling like a cartoon. ALSO, much like us, McNasty loves his hip-hop and will incorporate it any which way he can, from inviting his favorite rappers to star in lookbooks à la Angel Haze or to walk in his shows as aDanny Brown and Pusha T have done for previous collections, and Cam'ron (accompanied by girlfriend Juju) did this season.

Being that the dude has an ear for music, his runway soundtrack is also consistently on-point, and this Fall 2014 show was no exception. McNairy presented a collection of fashionably IDGAF looks—knee-length camo fur, leggings as pants (PRAISE BE), and 8 a.m.-class-ready zip-up hoodies with buffalo plaid sweatpants—accompanied by a soundtrack riddled with film quotes and badassery. Stelios Phili (who's also a very talented writer over at GQ and, full disclosure, a dear friend of mine) was the man behind the mix and kindly obliged my barrage of questions about the track he created.

MTV STYLE: How would you describe the soundscape you created for the Mark McNairy show?

STELIOS PHILI: What a person hears in their head every time they're about to give zero effs. Like that scene from Napoleon Dynamite when the little kid on the bus asks Napoleon what he's gonna do today. Napoleon responds, "Whatever I feel like I wanna do, GOSH!" I tried to apply that philosophy to the music. Like, I turned a beautiful Miles Davis trumpet solo into a house beat that changes tempo four or five times and, at one point, has Beavis and Butt-Head dousing it in fart noises. Can you find the effs given? I can't.

OMG. Quinn would be SO JEALOUS. While Daria Morgendorffer spent the tail end of the ‘90s (and into the early aughts) griping to her BFF Jane about the woes of the world, it was her blissfully unaware younger sister Quinn who was forever waxing poetic (er, airhead-ic?) about clothes to her high school Fashion Club–but Daria, seen above in head-to-toe Prabal Gurung A/W 2013, was clearly paying attention. (She’ll never admit it.) Seriously though–how UH-MAY-ZING is MTV’s most famous outcast in militia-chic with a little blush on her cheeks? Cynicism never looked so good.

Stüssy x Beavis and Butt-Head.

If you're anything like us, you embody the couch-locked pop-culture pundits Beavis and Butt-Head to the extent that you're maaaaaybe too lazy for appointment viewing. Though the resurrected run, aka Season 9, JUUUUUUST ended and that's all dreadfully :( it does also mark the AWESOME occasion of the entire 12 episode run being available for viewing online. DO THE MATH: this means you can watch it all on your iPad or laptop or Kindle Fire or whatever IN BED, which is the most luxurious viewing experience of all.

The only thing that gilds that ol' lily of a lazytime supine 'splosion is if you're WEARING a Beavis And Butt-Head x Stüssy crew neck sweatshirt with cashmere leggings (OH WE KNOW) while doing so...and drinking an alcoholic milkshake from a sippy cup (WHILE LYING DOWN). The thing you should know about your new and very necessary jumper is that its existence is partly owed to the birth of one man (NO, NOT MIKE JUDGE, but good guess). This dude goes by the name of Adam Jay Weissman and he is not only the art director at Stüssy and responsible for special T-shirt projects like Stüssy x Marvel, he is also the producer and percussionist for L.A.-based R&B, pop, soul, "cosmic sci-fi" trio Pollyn.

He's cool so we interviewed him and learned about what inspires him, what he loves about the CLASSIC MTV icons, and how the Beavis and Butt-Head-Stüssy collab almost never happened.

Butt-Head and Beavis
Photo: MTV

If you haven't set your DVRs already, then you best be home in time to catch tonight's premiere of the much-beloved, all-new returning series, Beavis and Butt-Head (at 10/9c). The show is a TRIUMPH of both comedic genius and sartorial grime, and we're thrilled that it's back on the air with the dudes making fun of new subjects like the cast of Jersey Shore. Not only is there a handy beginners guide to get you in the spirit, we've collected ELEVEN of the coolest rock T-shirts to help outfit you Beavis & Butt-Head-style because as you know, these dudes do nothing but wear concert tees and shorts all day (not to mention some seriously fuggo bouffant hairdos that, upon second look, are actually kind of hipstery cool). We're all over their hilarious concert tee existence like stylish sloths to a sparkly deciduous leaf tree and are AMPED to show you how to make these tees perfect for going out. And we've got everything from classic bands like AC/DC and Metallica (both favored by Beav & Butt, sorry), as well as vintage tees from The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Guns N' Roses, The Ramones, Nirvana, Beastie Boys, Pearl Jam, and even The Misfits. ROCK ON.

I love these two as a couple. What a festive way to celebrate two important events in their life. Mariah looks like a dream.
