Happy Birthday, America! While you may be getting on in years (you’re a stately 238 this year, congrats), you’ve still retained your sense of independence and fun, which is what we love about you. And while the Senate might frown on the use of wearing reproductions of the American flag on your clothes and accessories, we do not. We believe in life, liberty, and right to wear flag prints. In honor of your special day, we've rounded up a bevy of of babes, each wearing their own interpretation of Americana. Just a note. This roundup is best accompanied by a patriotic soundtrack and any of the following: a hot dog, a hamburger, and/or a sparkler. So, without further ado...
Remember in 2000 when Britney Spears was on the cover of Rolling Stone wearing lace-up red leather pants and a midriff baring flag-printed halter top? Man, they grow up so fast, don't they?

Katy Perry might be the most patriotic celeb there is (minus Springsteen because—really—no contest). The "Dark Horse" singer has done just about everything you can do: hang out with VP Joe Biden, offered to pen a theme song for Hillary Clinton, performed at Obama's campaign rally in 2012 in a spandex ballot dress, and performed for our servicemen at the "VH1 Divas Salute the Troops" concert in 2010 in a pair of hot pants, thigh-high white boots, and a flag halter top. Bruce? You might have some competition after all.
'TRL' and the 2000s in a nutshell.

Today is the day! Are you ready for Total Ariana Live tonight at 7 p.m. on MTV? We definitely are. Not only is there going to be a stripped-down version of "Problem" (which I haven't been able to get out of my head all summer FYI), we'll also hear a brand new song from the pint-size powerhouse: "Break Free." What's more is that we're totally stoked about TRL coming back! (Or this ~Ariana~ version of it, at least.) You know TRL, the decade-long mainstay that invited the biggest celebrities and performers straight into your living room? Years before Belieber Fever swept the nation or 5 Seconds of Summer penned their ode to skivvies, and when Miley was living a double life as Hannah Montana.
Because we're feeling nostalgic, we gathered a collection of photos from some of our favorite style moments (most of these are from the Carson Daly years, because he's the prince of TRL).

While Justin and Britney might have pioneered the look, they weren't the only couple's matching. Jay Z and Beyonce were double-denim mirror images of each other years before they actually became a couple. Sometimes you're just on the same wavelength, you know? Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey also wore matching black tees and leather pants.

HAPPY MOM JEANS DAY

Just in case you need a reminder: This Sunday is Mother's Day. While moms have their name associated with tons of good things, there is one stigma that follows them wherever they go. Yeah, we're talking about mom jeans. The denim style we all now associate with "mom jeans" has had a short, but full, history—in order to celebrate Mother's Day fully, we figured we should do a brief rundown of the pants. LEGGO!
Designer denim had its genesis in the 1970s, but it was in the 1980s that it really took off, beginning largely with Brooke Shields' controversial "Nothing Gets Between Me and My Calvins" ad campaign for Calvin Klein. Throughout the '80s the style shifted toward a tapered leg with a loose top, a "tight-roll" or "peg leg" style, if you will. By the early '90s, people were over the tight leg and into a looser fit on the bottom, resulting in, generally, what we would consider a baggy pair of jeans.
All one has to do to understand the popularity of the style is to glance at this cast photo from Beverly Hills, 90210. As Brenda (Shannen Doherty) and Kelly (Jennie Garth) prove, high-cut jeans with fitted legs were everywhere. These people lived in Beverly Hills and were stylish and rich—they were on top of what was going on in fashion, and this was it. It wasn't just moms who were wearing these jeans: It was everyone.
Britney's new and newer 'dos!

Just when we were starting to get used to Britney Spears' prodigal return to her follicular roots, it looks like Brunette-ney up and changed her hair color yet again, y'all—which makes her new hue the third tint she's tried out this year. (Cue "Oops...I Did It Again" and/or "My Prerogative.") Spears started the year off as a blonde, toyed around with chestnut brown for the better part of February, and, according to pap pictures and fan photos from a meet-and-greet on Wednesday, is currently rocking a rich, red hue.
It's Brunette-ney, b****! (Heh.) Over the weekend, Britney Spears shared a photo of herself that, at first glance, appeared to be some new promo for her Fantasy Remix perfume collection. "Spice up Valentine’s Day by getting ‘Naughty & Nice’ ((pun intended)) ;)," Spears tweeted while posing backstage at her Las Vegas vanity. But wait—that's not the same dark fringed wig she wore in the ads. In fact, we're pretty sure that's not a wig at all. And this isn't even an (official) ad. Could it be?! Britney's gone back to brunette, y'all!
Thanks for the mammaries.

In a nation—nay, a world—of Super Bowl watchers, humanity finds itself divided. There are those who tune in for a rousing game of The Football, and there are those who watch for the Halftime Show. Technically, you've also the crowd who only cares about commercials and a bunch who "tune in" so they can eat wings and a variety of dips. The people who eagerly watch for all of it are most certainly higher beings; close to perfection. Namaste to you.
This is dedicated to the Halftime Show contingent, a wayward gang of miscreants and rascals who defy all rules. We are the cool kids because we enjoy rock and/or roll. You football-y types can continue placing bets and doing pre-game stretches, we'll be over here REMEMBERING THE GREATEST (or at least most memorable) HALFTIME FASHUNS! To the garments.
Someone from the Britney Spears camp must have heard me singing "... Baby One More Time" in the shower yesterday, because they just hit us
one more time with TWO new fragrances (and an accompanying ad) from the Princess of Pop, seemingly out of nowhere. (Thanks, Shower Song Gods. Next time, I'll give some One Direction a shot and see how that works out for me. #fivetimesthefun) Granted, the scents aren't ~totally~ new. They're more like two new twists on old favorite Fantasy, which you may remember has had a supporting role in MANY of Brit's music videos.

This past Friday night (December 27), Britney Spears kicked off her "Piece Of Me" Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood to a star-studded opening night audience. In attendance at the big unveiling were Selena Gomez, Adam Lambert, Sia—the list goes on and on and on (as it should because, HELLO, it's Britney, b****). Two stars who didn't just bring themselves but also their style A-game were Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus. BONUS: Not only did these ladies look great, you can actually cop some of what they wore for yo'self!
Britney Spears applies her Fantasy scent in her video for 'Perfume.'

The video for Britney Spears' latest single, "Perfume," was just released and, wow, Britney must smell really good. She applies perfume ALL over her body. Is that how you get perfume to last? Spraying it on your stomach? I will take advice from a woman who has 12 scents to her name.
Obviously, with a song title like "Perfume" and bottles of Fantasy to sell, Britney and her team didn't miss the perfect opportunity for slow-mo shots of the pink sequined bottle as Britney applies enough for a few days. At those quantities, it's sure to rub off on the man you're having an affair with, Brit. His girlfriend will definitely smell your perfume.
Britney and her team weren't waiting for a perfectly named single to peddle perfume in her videos, though: Her various scents have made appearances for years! Let's take a look at some more cameos, shall we?
