Bowie's done it. Little Richard's done it. Kurt Cobain, too. Glam rock was essentially built on dudes pushing boundaries in clothing, hairstyles, and yes, even makeup more typical of the female set, and that, in turn, influenced other genres like shock rock, hair metal, new romanticism, and goth, to name a few. Gender-bending style has long been the provenance of rock and rollers, played mostly for either laughs or simply to shock the normies, but these days, you're slightly more likely to see a rapper in womenswear.
Rap, much like heavy metal, is a historically hyper-masculine genre of music, so it's refreshing to see men in the hip-hop industry wear clothing that isn't gender-specific simply because (a) they like it and (b) do you really need another reason? Let's take a look at our favorite MCs bucking conventional clothing stereotypes.
Jay-Z in New York on June 4, and the same jersey on Shopbop.
Photo: Splash News/ Shopbop
Jay Z was spotted in a Rodarte jersey in New York while hanging out with the Queen Bey herself. Fairly innocuous right? It looks just like a football jersey, but it's from a line best known for its ability to blend esoteric themes of "prettiness" with unconventional subject matters like Japanese horror movies (see: the Fall 2008 collection). As it stands, you can purchase it on Shopbop for $405. You could have worse role models than the Jigga Man.
As you know, the #WORLDSMOSTTALKEDABOUTWEDDING is approaching. But for all that’s being said about it, we know surprisingly little about Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s upcoming marriage extravaganza. While rumors have been swirling, we can glean that wedding guests are meeting in Paris and then mayyyybe flying from there to Florence where the pair could marry at Fort Belvedere. On Friday, there will be a brunch hosted by Valentino and covered by Vogue then followed by a rehearsal dinner. The next day, Kimye will be officially wed. Everything else we can only guess, from the soundtrack—aside from rumored guest of honor Lana Del Rey—to the vows which *fingers crossed* will be answered with “uh-huh honey.” We’re more preoccupied with the clothing though because when Kanye’s involved, that’s the main attraction. So, we did some sleuthing based on the couple’s whereabouts in Paris this past week and deduced all of the possibilities. Let’s get into it.

When: May 19, 2014
Where: 53 Avenue Montaigne
What it might mean for the wedding: Perhaps Kanye is trying to be “the bigger person” by extending a wedding invite to the fashion house’s head Hedi Slimane. Bonus points for Kanye if that invite comes without stipulation that Slimane can’t attend any other wedding this season. (After Slimane once told Kanye he could attend Saint Laurent’s show only if he didn’t attend any others that season, Kanye was inspired to write “I Am a God.”)

When: May 19, 2014
Where: 45 Avenue Montaigne
What it might mean for the wedding: Donatella Versace will probably be in attendance. The instinct here is to think that she’d be designing for the couple, their guests of honor, or even the place settings—Versace home is decadent like no other—but considering Kanye’s strict adherence to minimalism as of late, I’m going to rule that out since Versace’s aesthetic is all flash. More likely, they’ll be extending an invitation to Donatella to be their guest for this intimate weekend in reciprocation for her letting the Kardashian clan stay at her Miami home for a week this past March.
Jennifer Lawrence for 'Marie Claire.'
Photo: Marie Claire
Just when we were getting excited about the increasingly warmer weather, Jennifer Lawrence goes and makes us wish it was still winter. The actress looks bright and summery on the June 2014 cover of Marie Claire, but the inside photos are a different story. She models a variety of outerwear options in the spread, which is totally unfair since we likely won't elect to steal her looks for another five months (once you lose the tights, you don't go back until fall, amirite?).
J-Law rocks two different knee-length coats in the mag—a preppy gray Céline and a BRIGHT pink Dior that would cost me about six months rent to buy. But I'm kind of obsessed with it, so I might consider becoming homeless for half a year.
Shaliene Woodley on the cover of 'Marie Claire.'

There are still four more tortuous days until Divergent hits theaters, but we're becoming increasingly confident that Shailene Woodley is going to totally nail the role of Tris. The latest evidence comes in the form of her new Marie Claire interview, in which she talks openly and confidently about herself AND models some bold, hard-to-pull-off clothes. On the cover, Shailene wears Tommy Hilfiger pants and a swimsuit with cutouts and zippers, and honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if she decided to swim in the Olympics in this and then won. #sportyspice
Hannah Montana WHO?
Get used to it, World. Miley Cyrus and her rear are here to stay, at least if the official promo photos from Bangerz are any indication. And you know what? She’s got some choice words for all the haterz out there: (SEE PHOTO ABOVE). Provocatively crouched on an armchair in black-and-white checkered pants, a plain white sports bra and her super-lux, mink-lined, gold Celine sandals (which come in at a cool $910 – NBD), Miley makes quite the statement amid a shady rain forest that’s seemingly set up with electrical outlet capabilities.
Miley and Liam hit the red carpet, last night and last year.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth stepped out together on a red carpet last night for the first time in over a year, to promote Liam's new movie, Paranoia. The last time this happened was last year when the couple attended the Australians In Film Awards & Benefit Dinner. Miley wore a long-sleeve, black, cutout Zimmermann dress, and for Liam: a black Ermenegildo Zegna suit. They were newly engaged and looked almost too young to even know what marriage was—Miley had a blonde bob, and Liam was clean shaven and evening casual in an semi-unbuttoned suit shirt with no tie. Fast-forward a year and my, oh my, how things have changed.
Miley Cyrus in Berlin on July 23.

Oh hay, Miles! I hope you don't mind me calling you that. It's your girl Chrissy. Just wanted to say that I totally saw you filming a TV interview in Berlin yesterday (no, not in real life, Miles! I saw pap shots. I'm not that much of a stalker, hehe), and I noticed you were wearing a long sleeve black leather dress in 80-degree weather. (I know the temp because I Googled it, hehe.) And listen, I get it—it's Jitrois, it's 100% real lambskin, it's $3,000, and it fits you like a freakin' glove, but, Miles, it's July. Like, not even the beginning of the month where you're just getting the hang of this whole ~summer~ thing. It's near the end. We're even closer to August (the hottest month of the freaking YEAR), and you're swimming in all that leathery stuff like it's NBD.
Miley in #allgolderthang.

Knowing the little that we know about the business of making hit records, we know that it's a grueling, often times 24 hour process. Miley Cyrus has been busting her butt in the studio a lot as of late, and while we might be more inclined to work in, oh I dont know, some jeans and a comfy tee, Miss Miley has a slightly more glam wardrobe when she's on her grind. Getting ready to release her single #WeCantStop and her video for Angels & Ashtrays sometime this week (supposedly), as well as attending the Billboard Music Awards, you would think Miley would be too exhausted to turn it up on a regular work day, but wait, this is MILEY we're talking about here. The singer tweeted a photo of herself in the studio with the caption "@Versace #celine #STUDIO #allgolderthang,"in which she is not only wearing a killer pair of Versace logo sandals but also an AMAZING black and white striped bow top and a pair of black ankle-baring pants.
Rihanna wears the Celine paper bag clutch in oh-so-many ways!
Photo: Splash News
Dang, Rihanna really loves her new Celine clutch, y'all! She just can't stop sporting the Spring/Summer 2013 red lambskin rolled bag as of late, and we can totally see why—it goes with literally everything. Need proof? RiRi has been carrying the accessory throughout the month with all TYPES of ensembles. From casual denim cutoffs to beachy maxi dresses to club-ready leather pants, there isn't one look she couldn't accessorize with her paper bag-inspired clutch. In one outfit, she decided to channel a '60s starlet while wearing a printed scarf tied around her head, white circle sunglasses, a black maxi dress from her own River Island collection, super (SUPER!) long layered chains, Chanel two-tone flats and, of course, her Celine bag.
Beyonce for "The Gentlewoman" magazine.

If you're on 24/7 Beyonce Watch like us, you will have noticed that Mrs. Carter just posted what appears to be her entire The Gentlewoman cover shoot to her Tumblr. Bey posts up for the editorial spread against another minimal backdrop and in black-and-white (as is the style of the mag). In keeping with the "bare it all" M.O. of her "Life Is But A Dream" HBO documentary (premiering tomorrow night at 9PM EST!), Beyonce wears a series of simple but chic outfits (por ejemplo: a black cashmere sweater and white floral skirt, both by Dior, on the cover), a slicked back, super-straight ponytail, and little to no makeup. The honesty of image is striking to say the least.
