By now, you've all seen what Rihanna wore to the CFDA Awards earlier this week. Y'know, that sparkly dress that would DEF get censored by Instagram? The rhinestone-studded gown was nothing short of a work of art. And like all works of art, it takes a lot of time and dedication to reach the final product. In the case of Rih's dress, that dedication looks something like an entire team of people gluing microscopic crystals onto fabric with tweezers.

Adam Selman, Rihanna's costume designer and collaborator, posted a video to Instagram of that process, writing: "Detail of my incredible team at work with @official_swarovski and @rupaulsdragrace led by the true queen @meetingsmagazine #glamazon." Glamazon, indeed! We kind of can't stop watching this mesmerizing video on repeat, even though the tediousness threatens to make our brains explode. Ah, what we do in the name of #FASHUN.

In case you were unaware of why Rihanna was wearing that sheer, yet totally sparkly, dress last night, it's because it was Monday, duh. A casual Monday night outfit, right? JK, it was because she was named the CFDA Fashion Icon of the Year and she needed to bring it, big time. After being introduced by Anna Wintourusing emojis, BTW—Rihanna delivered a short and sweet speech in which she touched on how much she loves fashion and, as always, was a total badgal/the best.

Below are a few of our fave quotes from her speech last night on top of some of our all-time fave ~lewks~.Enjoy!

Chris Kattan, Mango

The last person you'd expect to see at the CFDAs (basically the Oscars of fashion) is a goofy comedian. UNLESS, of course, he was dressed as the most fashionable Saturday Night Live character of all time (besides Maya Rudolph as Donatella). We're talking about none other than Mango, the enchanting exotic dancer played by Chris Kattan during his time on the show. When we saw Mango walk down the red carpet as Alexander Wang's date, we were equal parts excited and confused. Sure, we were stoked to see the character resurrected in leather hot pants and a glittery beret, but also...why was he there in the first place?

Lupita Nyong'o

At the CFDA Awards tonight where she's currently presenting the Womenswear Designer of the Year award, Lupita Nyong'o did just about the most deserving thing of that honor she could: She went out on a limb in the name of fashion, switching up her usual monochromatic gown game. Lupita completely slayed the red carpet in a splashy Suno jumpsuit.

Welp. Rihanna certainly knows how to make an entrance. The guest of honor arrived at the 2014 CFDAs (Tuesday, June 2) to accept her Fashion Icon Award in a dress guaranteed to raise a lot of eyebrows (and then some). Hot on the heels of her public display of support for #FreeTheNipple and her own nipple-related Instagram deletion, Badgal Riri hit the red carpet in an appropriately titillating (sorry, couldn't resist) gown.

In March it was announced that Rihanna would be the recipient of the CFDA 2014 Fashion Icon Award. The ceremony is tonight, and we figured, as we bide the hours left until we see what badgalriri shows up wearing, we'd take a look back at a few of the trends she has been RIHsponsible for. In an interview with the New York Times late last week, Mel Ottenberg, her stylist, remarked that he loves working with Rih so much because of her undeniable influence and ability to get people talking. We will never get tired of talking about Rihanna, TBH. Peep a few of our fave trends that we attribute to her below!

When Rihanna Got Into It: November 2012.
When Others Got Into It: Spring 2013.
A Brief History: Rihanna debuted her matchy-matchy look almost two years ago on her 777 Tour, but the trend is still going strong in stores. These days practically every shirt seems to come with a matching bottom. This summer is going to be full o' sets, IMHO. As an early adopter of the trend, Katy Perry wore a matching crop top and skirt to the Kids Choice Awards in 2013, but she was still months behind her pal. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em, right?

Not a single day goes by that Rihanna doesn't make waves in the fashion world. She has always been our unofficial Queen of Style, but now, she is finally going to be *officially* recognized for her valiant efforts. The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) announced today that their 2014 Fashion Icon is none other than RiRi herself, and our main reaction to the news is: IT'S ABOUT TIME. The annual award honors fashion trailblazers (past winners include Lady Gaga and Johnny Depp), and after Rihanna's ultra glamorous 2013-14, we can't imagine any worthier recipient. Take a look back at all the memorable reasons why CFDA totally made the right decision.

SHE BECAME THE FACE OF BALMAIN

Back in December, Rihanna announced on Instagram (her news outlet of choice) that she was the newest face of Balmain. She also kindly provided a slew of pics from the campaign, teaching us how to look chic wearing power suits in a steam room—we had always wondered, so thanks, Rih!

SHE LANDED HER THIRD 'VOGUE' COVER

Rihanna looked naturally bold on the March 2014 cover of Vogue, and the accompanying inside spread was just as gorgeous. Her wardrobe varied from oversized jackets to couture Versace, which only affirmed her ability to wear ANY trend. She also was kind enough to dole out some of her super-secret fashion tips, which was thoughtful of her.

Charlotte Ronson CFDA tote

We all have subjects that make us rant, and this week, the links are all about causes worth knowing.

• Knock-offs, beware! The CFDA and eBay rounded up 90 big-name designers to create tote bags that insist the honest truth: "You Can't Fake Fashion." {InStyle}

• We forever salute our bra-burning sisters of second-wave yesteryear, but now you can make a feminist statement just by applying lip gloss. Yup, uh HUH, I'll take it. {Refinery 29}

Topshop and PETA team up to create window displays urging you to, please, keep lions and tigers out of your wardrobe. {Racked}

• In more news about the ethical treatment of animals, real fur is being mis-labeled as... fake? Shady business, faux-real. {Fashionista}

• And this Canadian PSA thinks your justification for "social smoking" is a bit, well, flatulent. {Jezebel}

Karlie Kloss in the Neiman Marcus And Target Collaboration Commercial.
Photo: Neiman Marcus' Youtube Channel

We love a good collab, that's for sure. Not only because they allow us to snag some of that pret-a-porter style at a more reasonable price point, but also because designer collaborations allow us to see our fave clothiers stretch their muscles in a new way. The Neiman Marcus and Target CFDA holiday collection is basically the ultimate collabo, with some of our fave selections being cookie cutters from Band Of Outsiders, an Alice + Olivia bike, and a Derek Lam skateboard, and that's just scratching the surface. It also features our favorite (or rather, one of our TWO favorites) model Karlie Kloss in the super cute campaign, bounding around both print and film and generally looking like a holiday elf-goddess. We showed you the behind the scenes from the shoot, but now we have the full commercial for your viewing pleasure. Karlie is the classic sweet girl, what with her midwestern charm and cookie-making side hustle, so it makes sense that she would front a campaign so filled with good cheer. And yeah, it also helps that she's one of the biggest supermodels in the world. Watch the full commercial after the jump and tell us what you think!

Christmas in July? It's actually happening, at least for Target and Neiman Marcus, who announced this morning that they're teaming up on...drumroll, please- a holiday gift collaboration! (Pause for excited screams). The two giant, albeit very different, retailers have joined forces to produce a collection of 50 various products designed by 24 CFDA designers. This means high fashion heavyweights like Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, Rag & Bone, and Jason Wu will lend their stylish genius to everything from clothing to pet gear to home decor, all available to buy in stores and online starting December 1st. Are you freaking out yet?! Because we totally are....

I love these two as a couple. What a festive way to celebrate two important events in their life. Mariah looks like a dream.
