Tonight's Critics' Choice Movie Awards forced Hollywood's elite to step out on the red carpet once again (the third time in just a little over a WEEK). It seems like we JUST picked apart the looks from the 2014 Golden Globes, but hey, that's the life of the rich, famous, and talented. (It's also what happens when the Winter Olympics forces much of awards season OUT of February.) The Critics' Choice attendees played it pretty safe overall, proving that awards shows are sometimes more about professionalism rather than just seeing and being seen. Still, there were a few envelope-pushing looks that we think are worth talking about. Take a look at our faves!

Can we just go ahead and crown Lupita Nyong'o the official red carpet darling of 2014 already? I know it's only January, but girl's track record is PRISTINE. If her gorgeous caped dress at the Golden Globes wasn't enough to convince you, just look at this white-hot number. We love all aspects of the crisp, clean Calvin Klein look from its athletic neckline to its geometric bodice cutouts, but don't sleep on her matching manicure, shimmering makeup, metallic clutch, or perfectly compatible Kimberly Macdonald jewelry either! Girl is FLAWLESS.

Whichever way you cut it, Jennifer Lawrence is a winner. Whether we're speaking in traditional terms about her 2013 Oscars Best Actress in a Leading Role statuette, about her endearingly colorful press room commentary after falling on stage, or even her fit-for-a-princess Dior Haute Couture gown, J.Law has won over our hearts by being simultaneously talented beyond her years, drop-dead gorgeous, and charmingly affable. We could go on for days about all the reasons we love the spunky beauty, but being that fashion is our primary domain, we're laser-focusing on that. More specifically, we're taking a long, hard look back on Jennifer's exemplary red carpet fashion throughout this 2013 winter awards season. LEGGO!

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer was breath-taking and regal at the 2013 Oscars in this ballerina pink Dior Haute Couture gown. The large trumpeted skirt may have been to blame for her little spill, but J.Law handled that little mishap with grace and still looked beautiful and poised for press room questions. Just the day before, Lawrence took a break from her red carpet Dior (she is the newest face of Miss Dior handbags, after all), accepting her Film Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook in striking angular Lanvin.

Emmanuel Riva may have snagged Best Actress honors at the 2013 British Academy Film Awards, but Jennifer found a winner (color) in this gem-laden baby pink Dior Haute Couture. Lawrence almost didn't show to the 2013 SAG Awards thanks (or rather, no thanks) to a bout with pneumonia, so you can imagine the gasps of approval from the MTV Style frontlines when she not only showed up but totally turned it out in navy, strapless Dior Haute Couture with a bold red lip and flawless side-swept waves. AND won for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role. Preach.

Critic's Choice Awards Fashion

Kirsten Dunst, Evan Rachel Wood, and Chloë Moretz at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards in L.A. on Jan. 12.
Photo: Getty Images

Last night's Critics' Choice Movie Awards was BURSTING with one beautiful ensemble after another (here's the best dressed list if you don't believe us), but we couldn't help but notice a colorful trend buzzing on the red, er, gray carpet. It seems our favorite celebs couldn't stop turning up in either black or yellow themed outfits. (Cue: Wiz Khalifa's "Black and Yellow" video STAT.) On the darker side of the spectrum, Kirsten Dunst, Evan Rachel Wood, and Chloë Moretz went for all-black ensembles. Kirsten sported a stunning Christian Dior layered tulle frock with matching black peep-toes and a pop of pink on her pout. Evan Rachel Wood looked SO romantic in a strapless lace Valentino gown with upswept hair and minimal accessories (well, minus that GIANT engagement ring. Get itttt!). Chloë went cute couture (as we like to call it) in a furry-sleeved, tea length Chanel dress with a beaded collar and pinned-back hair.

Tonight's 2012 Critics' Choice Movie Awards marks the second event in a flurry of awards shows that began with last night's People's Choice and will continue through to the Academy Awards. Winter doldrums be damned, this January-February one-two punch provides some of the most spectacular fashion that any stylette could ask for. The CCAs proved to be exemplary, showcasing some of the canniest style decisions, the best of which we've rounded up right here. Check 'em out.

Michelle Williams was a vision of clean Karl Lagerfeld tailoring in this stark black and white Chanel gown on the CCA red carpet. The dramatic panels are modern, but the color palette and banded waist keep the look classic and timeless. Her wispy flaxen pixie and natural peachy makeup help to complement and not compete with the bold silhouette.

Olivia Wilde in Christian Louboutin on Jan. 16, Keri Hilson in Alana Hale and Diane Kruger in Jimmy Choo on Jan. 14.

Awards season is in full swing, and while gowns will always be the centerpiece, fabulous footwear is having a serious red carpet moment. We were awestruck by Olivia Wilde's princess dress at the Golden Globes, but it was her gold spiked and studded Christian Louboutin booties hiding underneath that gave the biggest style surprise. And though Keri Hilson's LBD at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards was all kinds of adorable, her custom-made gold and pearl-encrusted peep-toes by Alana Hale knocked us off our feet. Likewise, we only had eyes for Diane Kruger's incredible Jimmy Choo studded pink, red, black and croc-print platforms, even next to her sparkly sheath. All of these shoes were OTT (over the top) stylish, but which pair will you remember months from now?

From acting vet Michelle Williams in a vintage-y white gown to 14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld (star of True Grit) in a perfectly ruffled cocktail dress, the 2011 Critics' Choice Movie Awards was chock full of Hollywood glamour. And to think, this was just a warm-up for the rest of the awards show season! Here's a glimpse at the celebs who really showed their stuff in the dress department on Friday night...

Elle Fanning

Elle Fanning looked like a golden girl in a heavily embellished Valentino minidress. And being the smart style cookie that she is, the mini-actress kept her shoes simple—nude Mary Janes—so as not to compete with her party frock.

Mila Kunis

Black Swan star Mila Kunis' LBD (Little Black Dress) wasn't just any old LBD. Check out the Nina Ricci frock's mini-fishtail and ruffles. Plus, she paired it with über-cute ribbon-laced heels for another layer of uniqueness.

Hailee Steinfeld

Hailee's tan peep-toe booties and mini-white clutch upped the cool quotient of her already hip Marchesa one-shoulder dress.

Michelle Williams

Blue Valentine actress Michelle looked like the belle of the ball in a Balenciaga dress, satin Salvatore Ferragamo shoes and delicate jewelry.

Natalie Portman

Mama-to-be Natalie Portman, who stars in Black Swan, dressed up her baby bump in a one-shoulder Ferre maxi-dress, which she teamed with a black Dior clutch.

Mandy Moore

In a floor-length Monique Lhuillier plum dress, Mandy Moore can do no wrong. The actress/singer partnered her gown with a perfect pair of chandelier earrings and an easy updo.

Our favorite part about awards shows is that we get to see dozens of hot trends on dozens of celebrities at one time. Such was the case at the 2011 Critics' Choice Movie Awards, where sheer fabric frocks carried over their dominance from 2010 and "mullet dresses" had their official coming-out party. Check out the other statement-making looks we loved.

SHEER DELIGHT: Short and sheer was the name of the game as actress Eva Mendes rocked an allover see-through Valentino number. Meanwhile, Elle Fanning's Valentino dress and Keri Hilson's black frock featured just hints of mesh.

MULLET DRESSES: It was business in the front, and party in the back for Mila Kunis in Nina Ricci, Michelle Williams in Balenciaga, and Khloe Kardashian in an animal print gown.

PEACHY KEEN: Flesh tone dresses full of embellishments, including glitter and ruffles, had a strong showing. We loved Jennifer Lawrence's L'Wren Scott pencil dress, Hailee Steinfeld's Marchesa cocktail dress and Elle Fanning's flippy Valentino dress.

STRAPLESS SWEETHEARTS: With or without jewelry, Amber Rose, Sofia Vergara, and Mandy Moore slipped into sexy collarbone-revealing gowns for the red carpet. Amber's mermaid dress and Sofia's metallic Temperley London showed off their figures, too, while Mandy's Monique Lhuillier just skimmed over her curves.

Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, and John Legend.

The 2011 Critics Choice Awards wasn't all cocktail dresses, chignons, and sheer shifts. The fellas represented on the red carpet also. And while a fair share of them were decked out in run-of-the-mill suits and tuxes, these hustlers stepped outside the rack to don something a little different. Mad Men's Jon Hamm and singer John Legend wore shiny gray suits (Legend's was Gucci) with patterned ties, and Jeremy Renner rocked his tux with a mini-bow tie. Meanwhile Christian Bale, who won for The Fighter, wore head-to-toe black, and Blue Valentine star Ryan Gosling anchored his outfit with a Ferragamo nearly black purple brocade jacket with a velvet collar. Impressive...impressive, indeed.

Emma Stone at the Critic's Choice Movie Awards in Los Angeles on Jan. 14, Lindsay Lohan at Cartier Celebrates 25 Years in Beverly Hills on May 9, 2005.
Photo: Getty Images/WireImage

We had to do a double take when we saw Emma Stone at the 16th annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards Friday night. Was it just us, or did the former redheaded actress, who presented an award with The Social Network's Jesse Eisenberg, look A LOT like Lindsay Lohan circa 2005? Maybe it was the dress—Emma wore a Balenciaga halter dress Friday night, while Lindsay wore a similar silhouette to a Cartier event more than five years ago. Maybe it was the hair—Emma recently dyed her ‘do blonde for her starring role in Spider-Man. Maybe it was the rosy cheeks and pink lips. Maybe it was us subconsciously remembering that spoof Emma did of Lindsay in October on Saturday Night Live. Whatever it was, it was kind of freaky. Freaky Friday.

+ Do you think Emma Stone and Lindsay Lohan look like sisters from another mother?
