Met Costume Institute Goth

Dang, dudes. We were 100% sure that nothing could top last year's “Punk: Chaos to Couture" Costume Institute exhibition, but yesterday The Metropolitan Museum of Art revealed that their next fall spectacle (the first in seven years!) will be called "Death Becomes Her: A Century of Mourning Attire." Translation: All goth everything. Yasss.

From October 21 through February 1, the exhibition will feature around 30 "mourning ensembles" from the 19th and early 20th centuries that will "reveal the impact of high-fashion standards on the sartorial dictates of bereavement rituals as they evolved over a century," according to The Met's press release. Judging by the images, we're expecting to see tons of high-fashion veils and breathtaking, sculptured, Victorian-era gowns, which were the original inspiration behind most modern goth looks today. (I mean, where do think all those corsets came from?)

Rita Ora Iggy Azalea Cara Delevingne Jourdan Dunn

If there's one party we wish we were invited to this summer, it'd HAVE to be last night's DKNY Artworks event in London. Top models Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn brought their fashion A-game to the '90s-themed shindig, and there were even performances from two of our FAVES, Rita Ora and Iggy Azalea (#jeals!), who switched ensembles throughout the night. When Rita arrived, she wore a sporty-yet-girly black and blue colorblocked frock with mesh detailing and a tulle skirt. She accessorized with super strappy knee-high boots, stacked bracelets, and a crimson pout. Me-ow! Iggy sported a comfy tea-length black and red DKNY logo dress with pointy booties, gorge platinum waves and a retro red lip. Cara hosted the event in a skin-tight jumpsuit (girl loves her onesies!), a metallic varsity jacket, layered gold chains, and the same patent booties. Jourdan stunned in a cropped Dimepiece jersey with leather skinnies, holographic heels (so on trend) and a bold red lip.

Holland Roden Adam Lamber Ashley Benson Jaden Smith Audring Patridge Nylon Young Hollywood Issue Party

Whew, if there's one event we'd want to squeeze into all year long, it'd definitely be last night's Young Hollywood party hosted by NYLON! I mean, literally all of our favorite people arrived decked out in the most effortlessly-cool ensembles, and, oddly enough, they all seemed to stick with one particular trend—the head-to-toe monochrome look. Holland Roden, Adam Lambert, Ashley Benson, Jaden Smith, and Audrina Patridge sported outfits devoid of ANY color (like, not even on the shoes or accessories, y'all), and considering it's almost summer AND they're in California, this feels pretty out of character, dontcha think? Luckily, us New Yorkers love a good ol' gothy ensemble, so we're obsessed with their dark take on typically springy trends.

Jennifer Lawrence

Sequins. In a movement marked by studs, zippers, and razors, they're not exactly the MOST punk-centric outfit embellishment we can think of. But then again, Jennifer Lawrence fully admitted on the Met Gala's red carpet livestream tonight that "I never went through the punk phase. I guess tonight I'm supposed to say 'yes' but no. I was a cheerleader." And this honesty, Jenn, is exactly why we love you. The actress might not be a reformed punk, but she proved her star power nonetheless in a stunning strapless gown by Dior.

Krsiten Stewart

Forget all the pretty studded 2013 Met Gala gowns for a second. Forget those strategically-placed cutouts and ubiquitous "I'm so punk by NOT being punk!" lines, too. Right now, let's all focus on Kristen Stewart, who decided to wear a Stella McCartney jumpsuit on the red carpet tonight, and boy, did she ROCK it. It's only fitting that the former Runaways star would pay sartorial homage to "Punk: Chaos to Couture" in true K.Stew fashion: by not smiling and wearing pants (and not surprisingly, schooling everyone on her fave punk songs...). And this time, her no-nonsense casual attitude meshed perfectly with the night's theme.

met gala 2013

Guess who's taking these celebs to the 2013 Met Gala?!
Photo: Getty Images

Considering the time of year, the prep work, and the formality of it all, it's not really that surprising that people refer to the annual Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum as the fashion world's version of prom. While both events have a theme (we hear this year's, "Punk: Chaos to Couture," is, uh, causing attendees some wardrobe struggles), let's be real— the high concentration of really talented, really famous, and really good looking people walking those Met steps on Monday night ensures that you won't get THIS party confused with your average school dance. We already told you about how you can get in on the action from home, whether it's buying "Chaos and Couture"-inspired clothing or splurging on the celebs' dresses themselves, but what we really want to know is, who's taking who?! There might not be adorable promposals this time around, but many of the designers HAVE picked their celebrity dates for the night. Not surprisingly, Dior is bringing the brand's new face and recently crowned Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence to the fete.

Katy Perry Selena Gomez Unicef Snowflake Ball

We’re total suckers for the holiday season because we get to see celebs transform their red carpet looks from short, summery frocks into killer floor-length shimmery gowns. Last night at the UNICEF Snowflake Ball our fashion-y faves Katy Perry and Selena Gomez were no exception—they oozed vampy-chic gorgeousness in dark, sweeping halter dresses that we need to discuss. Katy Perry wore a curve-hugging, mesh beaded brocade Naeem Khan gown complete with a STUNNING sheer cape and sequin beaded belt. She accessorized with oversized 45-carat blue sapphire and diamond earrings by Lorraine Schwartz, a matching geometric cuff and a satin clutch. For her beauty game, she kept her raven locks sleek and straight and opted for a smoky eye and nude lip with her golden marble nail art. Perf!
