About a month ago, we caught wind that creative director Hedi Slimane would be transitioning the name of legendary ready-to-wear label Yves Saint Laurent and its YSL shorthand to (the momentarily Saint Laurent Paris, then rechristened/confirmed) JUST Saint Laurent. Whether the logo for the read-to-wear line, too, will morph from "YSL" to "SL" or "SLP" for "Saint Laurent Paris" is still unconfirmed. The news was shocking, for sure, but earlier this week Slimane and Saint Laurent presented their first show under the new name without a hitch. And so, the fashion world lives on to see another day. What remains to be touched on, though, is the effect the name change will have on the rap game, with droves of emcees having dropped the brand's previous identification in their lyrics.
The YSL logo tees are all no doubt waaaay more valuable now that the name change has upped their vintage factor, but what happens to the DOZENS of lyrics boasting the old name? There are more than 40 hip-hop songs in existence that feature some permutation of the former "Yves Saint Laurent," with the top repeat offenders being Maybach Music Group's Rick Ross and Meek Mill at 5 tracks each and honorable mentions going to A$AP Rocky, Kanye West, 2 Chainz, Tyga, and Game at 2 instances each. Peep all the YSL-winking lyrics we could round up (over 40!!!!) after the jump and let us know in the comments whether you think the change makes these songs out-dated or just vintage.
