Style has moved! come with us to mtv news »

Over the years, Kelis has brought all the boys to the yard with her song "Milkshake," welcomed us to the 22nd century on her album Flesh Tone, and is now serving up a piping hot helping of soul with her album Food, her first in four years. The singer/saucier (girlfriend attended the Le Cordon Bleu culinary school) appears tonight (June 13) at Webster Hall, but if you didn't score tickets (or just have some time to kill before the show), you're in luck! We talked to Kelis about Food, that time Pharrell credited her with introducing him to high fashion, and more.

For more than two decades now, Hype Williams and his keen creative eye have been defining an entire culture. The New York native put his undeniable stamp on hip-hop from its infancy with his dynamic music video direction. From the regional chill sceneries of Tupac's "California Love" and Notorious B.I.G.'s "Big Poppa" to the fish-eye lensed absurdity of Busta Rhymes's "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See" and Missy Elliott's "The Rain [Supa Dupa Fly]," Hype Williams has etched his iconic moving images and style vision into the brains of a generation. So you can imagine our squeals of delight when we learned V Magazine's Music Issue (fronted by the one and only Justin Bieber) would feature never-before-seen Hype Williams snaps of Missy, Kelis, Bow Wow (né "Lil"), Kanye West, Jay-Z, and the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes and Aaliyah. Prepare yourself for an old-school fashion flashback of EPIC proportions.

Eliza Doolittle, Kelis, and Karine Vanasse wear hot shoes.
Photo: Getty Images

Maybe I'm the only one who has been clutching so tightly onto summer, fighting off autumn with such unbridled objection, but now that the crisp chill of fall is finally creeping into my hardened heart, I'm warming up (*ironic ba dum tsh*) to the idea of a change in seasons. Also, the clothes are kind of... better during the cooler months. Sure, things get dicey once snow and sleet hit and you're relegated (slash demanded daily by your mom no matter how many miles away she is) to wearing parkas and sensible shoes, but you have to admit that just as the leaves start to turn and the air thins slightly, the layering party preceding the winter solstice is just so FUN! You may shed a few tears as you stow away those trusty sandals that got you through the summer's dog days, but fear not, young one! Eliza Doolittle, Kelis, and Pan Am actress Karine Vanasse show you what closed-toed goodness fall has in store.

One of Katy Perry's looks from her 'E.T.' music video.
Photo: Courtesy of Katy Perry's Facebook.

• This week Katy Perry TOTALLY stole the show us with her new, alienesque 'E.T.' video! We pulled out every single look from the out-of-this-world vid, interviewed Kabuki, the miracle makeup man behind her transformation, and when Katy called for fans to re-create her extraterrestrial looks, we spotlighted our favorites. Why? Because we love you.

• BRITNEY'S BACK! And she showed off her hot bod in bejeweled bodysuits as she performed back on the stage like the good old days. Plus, gurl was ROCKING some Dolce & Gabbana all over her Femme Fatale album artwork!

Justin Bieber upgraded his bling and showed off his fandom at the same time when he switched out his dog tag necklace for a pendant of Stewie Griffin from Family Guy. All the while, his main lady, Selena Gomez, took Perez Hilton's Blue Ball Birthday Bash theme to heart and came out as queen of the Smurfs in her all-out blue ensemble.

• This season of Jersey Shore may be over, but that doesn't mean the casties are in hiding! Snooki stepped out in a homemade "Brunette Mafia" shirt that we're sure would be way easy to knock off.

Kelis wore crazy frontless pants, Jena Malone showed us how to wear blue eye shadow with class, style bloggers showed off their favorite animal prints, and we saw celebs sporting thick-strapped shoes all over the red carpet.

Vanessa Hudgens played it casual cool in a few T-shirts, and we showed you where to snatch them up. Meanwhile, Jennifer Hudson glammed it up in gorgeous bracelets, which got us hunting for more animal-themed jewelry that's just as drool-worthy.

• We peeked across the pond to see what our favorite British babes were wearing! Alexa Chung, Sienna Miller, Adele, and more showed us what's what with their stylish selves.

• The black hearts that British singer/songwriter Kate Nash and "90210" actress Shenae Grimes recently rocked on their cute mugs grabbed our attention! Did you <3 or </3 it?

• Before peeking between the pages, a magazine's gotta catch your eye! We rounded up all our favorite cover girls on the latest issues of Glamour, Rolling Stone, Elle and i-D. Some wore supercute getups, and others wore nothing at all!

• What were those hot dudes up to this week? Korean loverboy Rain showed off his glistening Hot Dude torso. Thanks to our moms' love of Criminal Minds, we finally discovered Mr. Hot Patootie Matthew Gray Gubler. Patrick Wolf proved that he is the ultimate boss of buttons. Oh yeah, and Ed Westwick looked supercute as he canoodled with a manfriend. Finally, Romeo picked daddy David Beckham's nose in public, but still managed to look hot. Plus, Moby and Marilyn Manson hugged it out while we captioned the pic!

Have a very stylish weekend!

Kelis Jones on March 30, 2011, and convertible men's trousers from Luar Zepol.
Photo: Getty Images/Luar Zepol

We first spied the cutaway trousers from Luar Zepol (the quizzical man on the right) courtesy of our friends at Refinery29 in their must-read "Rad or Bad" column, and now face a complementary fashion conundrum. On the left, you'll see the lovely Kelis at the Vivienne Westwood flagship store opening in Los Angeles last night. We were all, 'Oh, Kelis, nice bowler..." and clicked to the next image when we realized her bold decision to partner millinery with shorts was an even weirder decision because she's wearing harem pants (not mad at them having pockets, f'real) relieved of front panels on the trouser legs. Now, THAT is a lot of information, so we must now pose this question to you.

What do you think of cutaway trousers as a whole? Follow-up: What do you think of Kelis' pants specifically? Love? Hate? We think it would work with some billowing, asymmetrical, unisex hooded thing without sleeves, but that's a pretty particular lane. Could y'all make this work? Do tell us in the comments.

Kelis at Sundance in January, Lady Gaga's Vanity Fair cover, and Kelly in May.

Whenever we see a silver strand (thanks for stressing us out, world!), we run to the magnifying mirror and yank that sucker out from the root. But not everyone has the same Take No Prisoners approach, particularly celebs. Kelis and Kelly Osbourne both stepped out in the hue earlier this year, and when Lady Gaga's cover for Vanity Fair came out this week, we were more interested in her long gray locks than her nude tattoo-exposing poses. Could it be that everything we thought about gray is wrong? It's not a sign of age; it's a sign of YOUTH.

Is there a reason for this madness? YES. "I think it’s very exciting," says Jason Backe, celebrity colorist for L’Oreal Professionnel at Ted Gibson Salon in New York City. "We’ve been trying to avoid gray hair and covering it up but now it’s something new, fresh, and young." It also has that CRAZY factor. "It is shocking to do something unconventional, which is probably why young Hollywood is salt-and-peppering their strands all of a sudden," he adds.

• Loving the goth nail-polish look? Essie has just released a trio of nail colors, titled Blood Curling Red, Bone Chilling White, and Midnight Tango, fittingly inspired by morbid Addams Family matriarch, Morticia. {Musings of a Muse}

Kelis on July 8, Bryce Dallas Howard on July 6, and Kylie Minogue on July 1
Photo: Bryan Bedder/Getty; Brian Killian/Getty; Neil Mockford/FilmMagic

Belted dresses are always a flattering choice because they accentuate your waist. Yes, go for the curves, ladies! CURVES. And this summer, celebs are loving them. Kelis accessorized her polka-dot denim dress with a woven white belt and knee-high white gladiator boots when she visited Fuse Studios yesterday. We love the knot in front, which looks like it came straight off a sailboat. Actress Bryce Dallas Howard, who appears in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, looked very pretty and proper at an event for Moves magazine a few days ago, where the 29-year-old's belt was tied in a festive bow and matched the hemline of her dress, like she was a perfectly-wrapped gift. And Kylie Minogue added glitz to her look when she stopped by the BBC Radio One station in London last week, cinching on a silvery metallic belt, which seemed to match her white studded sandals quite perfectly. So, summer belts ... go grab yourself one.
