Jay Z and Beyonce wear ski masks for their On The Run tour poster.

I'm not sure how many instances it takes to be able to officially dub something a "trend," but I'm pretty confident, we can call ribbed ski masks a ~thing~ at this point. If not just now, then much, much earlier. You've probably seen it by now, but Jay Z and Beyonce are touring together (!!!) and the poster they released yesterday in promotion of the their On the Run joint tour depicts the power couple in matching black ski masks. The knit face coverings are, yes, a throwback to your "'03 Bonnie and Clyde" Hov and Bey, but they're also one more stop on the seemingly never-ending train of celebs wearing ski masks. What's that you say? You didn't know ski masks were trendy? OMG, don't worry, I'll catch you up.
TYLER, THE CREATOR

I know Tyler, the Creator didn't invent the ski mask, nor does he bogart it as a signature, but he's one of the earliest sightings of a ski mask I can recall from recent times.

Also, you may have just heard about Twenty One Pilots thanks to their high-energy performance at the 2014 MTV Movie Awards, but their ski masks were not a nod to Spring Breakers or to Russian punk band Pussy Riot (more on both later). They're a hallmark steez for the band and have been for years.
Listen, we know that New Year's Eve was over 24 hours ago now, but we honestly couldn't sleep soundly if we spent another minute of 2013 without rehashing all of our favorite celebrity celebration looks. Plus, you've probably exhausted your Facebook/Instagram news feed of NYE photos by now. From the punchy matching color palettes of Taylor Swift, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Justin Bieber to the glittering ball drop staples of Mariah Carey, JWOWW, Snooki, and Nicki Minaj, the stars turned up the style to usher in 2013 and even repped some solid trends for the new year.
RED AND BLACK COLOR BLOCK
Taylor Swift, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Justin Bieber rang in the new year in red and black color palettes.

Performing wasn't the only thing Taylor Swift, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Justin Bieber had in common on New Year's Eve. The three pop superstars also sported matching color block ensembles of black and red to usher in 2013. T.Swizzle hit the Times Square stage in a red zippered moto jacket by IRO with black leather skinnes and knee-high patent Jimmy Choo boots. Carly Rae reversed the color combo wearing a black crop top and fingerless gloves with bright red flanking the bottom of her ensemble via a voluminous floor-length, self-striped skirt by Sachin + Babi. Not to be out-done by the ladies, Justin Bieber's TWO New Year's Eve outfits (yes, he had two) both utilized the festive color palette: a black vest + tee + drop-crotch pants performance outfit accessorized with red velcro high-tops and red blazer ensemble off-stage.
Ahhhh, we're almost halfway through December, friends, meaning our "Best Of 2012" posts are almost halfway done. But before we get too sad, let's look back on all the awesome stuff we've covered so far. We dished on the best campaigns, best grills, best band style
and best celebrity nail art, just to name a few. So, sit back and relax as we keep all the goodness rolling out!
If there's one thing we're experts on here at MTV Style, it's HAIR NEWS. Some of the biggest hair transformations (see: Miley Cyrus) have caused the biggest waves (heh) on our blog, and we SO aren't mad at that. From killer retro updos to statement ponytails to super-short shaved 'dos, there wasn't as shortage of highly-talked-about locks over the past year. So, let's take a look back at all the best hair trends from 2012, shall we?
Rita Ora, Gwen Stefani, and Ke$ha.

2012 was ALL about the bleached 'dos—the brighter and more platinum the color, the better. Our favorite bottle blondes included Rita Ora, Gwen Stefani and Ke$ha. Rita went for an old Hollywood look with soft, deep-parted waves, while Gwen rocked her sleek signature blonde hue. Ke$ha went all-out glam rock with her stick-straight platinum 'do, which carries tons of killer volume.
Sometimes there are music and fashion collaborations that are so beyond perfect, it makes even our stone-cold style hearts melt. See: The photo above. Our fave rapper Kreayshawn is featured in JapanLA x Hello Kitty's latest holiday campaign, and weeee can barely handle it. The collection features tons of Hello Kitty and Badtz-Maru-inspired graphic leggings, oversized sweaters, and suspender skirts, which you can snatch up right this second on JapanLa.com or Sanrio.com. But first, let's peep all those pieces! Above, we see Kreay in classic Hello Kitty print leggings ($65) with a black and white "Vogue" top and the cutest high ponytails we have seen to DATE. Also, those platforms? *dies*
Yep, it's true—2012 is almost over, and, gosh, what a fashion-filled year it has been! From the breathtaking magazine covers to the oh-so-shocking haircuts to the incredible red carpet dresses, there certainly wasn't a dull fashion moment over the past 12 months. So sit back and relax as we reminisce about all our favorite style moments of 2012.
We're not exaggerating when we say this was THE year of nail art. Sure, 2011 had its fair share of tricked-out tips, but 2012 brought out the best nail game in everyone. So, let's start off the Best of 2012 with bang by introducing the most killing-est (that's a word) celebrity nail art from the entire year.
KATY PERRY: BEST THEMED TIPS
It's no secret that Katy Perry has a penchant for seriously-detailed digits, and with the help of go-to nail artist Kimmie Kyees, the singer has sported some of the most intricate manis we have seen to date, including (but not limited to!) metallic goth florals, Hollywood movie nails, Barack Obama tips, and the entire cast of Daria. Girl loves a good theme!
Rita Ora, Kreayshawn and Porcelain Black all wear word beanies.

Word up! On the heels of Rihanna's "Boy" snapback hat comes the next big thing in headwear—beanies with phrases on them. And, listen, we're not talking about hats with brand names plastered on the front, we're talking about expressing whatever sentiment you feel on your forehead for ALL to see. Rita Ora, Kreayshawn and Porcelain Black have been behind this trend of late, and we're LOVING it. Just over the weekend, Rita sported a black and pink cap while performing at the Made in America festival that had the phrase "I'm a Village Bicycle" embroidered on the front. We're guessing this is a vintage find because our Google searches come up empty :(, but we like how it adds a touch of kookiness to her ensemble. She paired it with a fringe leopard top, bright red lips and stacked plastic bead bracelets. Funnnn!

It's no secret that we at MTV Style are head-over-heels in love with Kreayshawn. I mean, what's not to love, y'all? A great eye for style, killer eyeliner skills, swag pumping out her ovaries, and, oh yea, she's been IMMORTALIZED in BAPEd-out fashion! We told you the BAPE x Kreayshawn limited edition tees were on their way, but that's not where the streetwear meets Oakland rapper collisions end. i-D magazine caught up with Kreay during a visit to the London flagship store, shot some video and photos, and thankfully, shared the wealth with the Interwebz.

It's official, Internet. BAPE is certifiably NOT a brand for basic bishes. (As if that was ever up for discussion...) Coinciding with the release of her Something About Kreay album, Kreayshawn has teamed up with the street wear brand for a set of limited edition BAPE x Kreayshawn t-shirts. The tees feature BAPE hallmark bold bubble lettering, Baby Milo, and a Baped illustration of Kreay complete with nose ring, door-knocker earrings, and Oakland Raiders gear. The shirts are expected to hit BAPE London stores and BAPE's ecommerce site on June 23, 2012. Along with the late-June drop date, the London BAPE Store will hold a special in-store event on July 5, so if you're across the pond around then, we suggest you deeeeefinitely hit that up!
Ashley Tisdale and Kreayshawn both rock Minnie Mouse ears.

Put up your dukes, Ashley Tisdale and Kreayshawn! Looks like these two lovely ladies have found themselves square in the middle of a Who Wore It Better showdown, and the gloves (or ears, rather) are ON. Perez Hilton hosted his 34th birthday party this weekend, and as usual, the infamous blogger made it a themed affair. This year, he hosted a "Mad Hatter tea party" and all of his esteemed guests were encouraged to attend wearing festive headgear. From turbans to fascinators, the VIP partygoers obliged, but Ashley Tisdale's Minnie Mouse ears caught our eye not just because of their sequined cuteness, but also because they reminded us of the metallic fuschia ears Kreay wore in her breakout "Gucci Gucci" music video.
Hide your designer labels, y'all! Kreayshawn is rolling out a new music video! The Oakland MC tweeted last week that she had just wrapped a music video shoot for her new track "Breakfast," and FINALLY, behind-the-scenes pics are starting to trickle in! After the huge success of "Gucci Gucci," we're excited to see what Baby Kreay has in store for her sophomore video and another stint behind the lens (yep, she directed this bad boy, too!). Titled after a meal that so rarely happens out of home, we can't wait to see what kind of behind-closed-doors style shenanigans "Breakfast" has in store for us! Bedhead and fuzzy house slippers maybe?!?? We can only hope.
