Happy Birthday, America! While you may be getting on in years (you’re a stately 238 this year, congrats), you’ve still retained your sense of independence and fun, which is what we love about you. And while the Senate might frown on the use of wearing reproductions of the American flag on your clothes and accessories, we do not. We believe in life, liberty, and right to wear flag prints. In honor of your special day, we've rounded up a bevy of of babes, each wearing their own interpretation of Americana. Just a note. This roundup is best accompanied by a patriotic soundtrack and any of the following: a hot dog, a hamburger, and/or a sparkler. So, without further ado...

Britney Spears for 'Rolling Stone'.

Remember in 2000 when Britney Spears was on the cover of Rolling Stone wearing lace-up red leather pants and a midriff baring flag-printed halter top? Man, they grow up so fast, don't they?

Katy Perry might be the most patriotic celeb there is (minus Springsteen because—really—no contest). The "Dark Horse" singer has done just about everything you can do: hang out with VP Joe Biden, offered to pen a theme song for Hillary Clinton, performed at Obama's campaign rally in 2012 in a spandex ballot dress, and performed for our servicemen at the "VH1 Divas Salute the Troops" concert in 2010 in a pair of hot pants, thigh-high white boots, and a flag halter top. Bruce? You might have some competition after all.

Lady Gaga

Cue Mendelssohn's 'Wedding March.'
Photo: Splash News

We gotta hand it to her: Lady Gaga doesn't always dress in the most ~seasonally appropriate~ manner, but at least the bridal attire she was casually wearing to take a stroll around Montreal made sense—it is wedding season, after all.

Gaga put on her wedding day finest for a surprise performance with Tony Bennett at the Montreal Jazz Festival, where they performed a few songs off of their upcoming album, Cheek to Cheek. Like anyone else, Gaga appeared to have asked herself, "What shall I wear to duet with a legendary 87-year-old crooner?" And the answer was quite obviously a wedding dress. And a floor-length tulle veil. And a crystal tiara. Obviously.

'TRL' and the 2000s in a nutshell.
Photo: Getty Images

Today is the day! Are you ready for Total Ariana Live tonight at 7 p.m. on MTV? We definitely are. Not only is there going to be a stripped-down version of "Problem" (which I haven't been able to get out of my head all summer FYI), we'll also hear a brand new song from the pint-size powerhouse: "Break Free." What's more is that we're totally stoked about TRL coming back! (Or this ~Ariana~ version of it, at least.) You know TRL, the decade-long mainstay that invited the biggest celebrities and performers straight into your living room? Years before Belieber Fever swept the nation or 5 Seconds of Summer penned their ode to skivvies, and when Miley was living a double life as Hannah Montana.

Because we're feeling nostalgic, we gathered a collection of photos from some of our favorite style moments (most of these are from the Carson Daly years, because he's the prince of TRL).

While Justin and Britney might have pioneered the look, they weren't the only couple's matching. Jay Z and Beyonce were double-denim mirror images of each other years before they actually became a couple. Sometimes you're just on the same wavelength, you know? Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey also wore matching black tees and leather pants.

Honorable mention goes to Jimmy Fallon and Carson Daly.

The Puffy AmiYumi of metal.
Photo: BABYMETAL's Facebook

Lady Gaga just revealed that Japanese metal band Babymetal is joining her for five dates of her summer artRAVE: the Artpop Ball Tour (Phoenix, Las Vegas, Stateline, Salt Lake City, and Denver). By now I'm sure you're probably wondering "Who?" and "What?" Well, I'm glad you asked.

Babymetal is a band that could only be formed in Japan. They're a product of the Japanese idol infrastructure wherein a band, usually populated by teenagers, is created by an agency and marketed to target demos. Also, once a member reaches a certain amount of years, they "graduate" from the group, sort of like a high stakes Menudo. Babymetal's lead vocalist Suzuka Nakamoto (aka Su-Metal) aged out of female pop group Sakura Gakuin in 2012. However, Babymetal's other members, Moa Kikuchi (aka Moa-Metal) and Yui Mizuno (aka Yuimetal) are still current members. This seems a little cray, given that the members are 16 and 15 years old.

Greetings from MTV Style HQ. As the Senior Bangs Correspondent—a title given me upon realizing that I am the only Style staffer with bangs—I'm here to discuss the state of Mother Monster's hair. Lady Gaga has been photographed everywhere lately with a healthy head of "Italian curls"—on the street, in a tub, and so on, leading many of us to wonder: What's actually under the wig? The answer: very short, blunt baby bangs.

Gaga looks like she's taking a page out of Sophia Amoruso's playbook.

We shouldn't have been surprised. Gaga's been seeding her Instagram with photos of Audrey Hepburn. The signs were there.

Lady Gaga, Rihanna

Y'all having a slumber party?
Photos: Splash News/Getty Images

Um, was there a mass slumber party invite sent to all my best friends that I somehow missed? Because, TBH, that's the only explanation for why both Lady Gaga and Rihanna have worn pink robes out in public recently. Since my two pals are obviously planning their sleepover outfits without consulting me, it's only right we discuss whether Gaga or Rih pulled the robe look off better.

Lady Gaga wore her silk robe out yesterday while heading to a surprise performance with Tony Bennett at the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in New York City. She paired it, of course, with her preferred wig, a heavy smokey eye, and nude stiletto sandals. The robe has a deep V, which might be impractical for sleeping, but makes for a pretty glamorous dress option.

Bath time for Lady Gaga and her wig.
Photo: @ladygaga Instagram

We all know Lady Gaga is a big fan of her new wig. It seems like she never takes it off and, actually, based on a photo she posted to Instagram last night, she doesn't—she bathes in it! Um, is bathing in a wig something you should do? While I fully thought the answer would be a resounding NO, I actually found a few sites that suggest you shower with a wig if you have one made of human hair! Who knew?

Other sites suggest you don't because, uh, wigs are expensive and swirling around water with them on can tangle them, so it seems like the decision is up to the wig wearer. If you're just looking for a photo op like Lady Gaga, you can pop your wig on, get someone to take your photo, and then take it off before you do any damage.

Real talk: who wore this collar better?
Photo: @ladygaga Instagram/Splash News

Yesterday, Lady Gaga left her apartment wearing the above Tudor ruff because—IDK—it was Wednesday? We all celebrate the middle of the week differently, right? She wore an oversized blazer, her new fave wig, and carried Asia, who was just hanging. Literally—look at her cute li'l legs!

Last night, Gaga posted photos of Asia wearing the Elizabethan collar (but not that Elizabethan collar) which begs the question: who wore it better? OK, it doesn't, but play along, plz?

Lady Gaga, Cher

Photos: Splash News/Getty Images

If you don't keep close tabs on Lady Gaga like I do (um, it's my job, so bye H8ERz), you may have missed the large, curly wig she's been wearing since last week. She's been wearing it with a slew of different looks, but all have one thing in common—it's hard to deny how Cher that wig is. Gaga is not the only pop star paying attention to Cher's past looks—Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Katy Perry, and more have all taken pages from her long and iconic book.

Below are a few of the most obvious homages/imitators/etc. If you're a pop star looking to start a trend, you can rest assured that Cher (probably) did it first.

Miley's Bangerz Tour wardrobe is heavy on the sequins and cutouts. Guess who was wearing a similar white outfit in 1975? Cher.

When most people wear vintage clothing, they have no idea where their clothes came from. Sure, they likely purchased their vintage pieces at a store organized by color, but I'm talking about originally. They have no idea who (or how many people) wore that shirt before them. Their clothes have history they don't even know about. Lady Gaga, obviously, is not like most people. Lady Gaga knows exactly who wore her clothes before her and, in the case of the sequined number she wore last night, that person is Daphne Guinness.

Gaga is on a break from her ARTPOP tour and debuted a new look yesterday–very Designing Women, don't you think?–and revealed in the caption of one of her Instagram photos that the sequined leopard print piece she has on is Dolce & Gabbana archive and was previously owned and worn by Daphne Guinness. Most of my vintage stuff is, like, Gap vintage and previously owned and worn by someone who couldn't eat without spilling, but I digress. Lady Gaga has been a longtime fan of Daphne–she's called her a living legend and muse–so wearing Daphne's clothes is a BFD. This isn't the first piece of couture broken in by Daphne Guinness that Gaga owns, BTW–in 2012 she successfully bid on an Alexander McQueen gown that Daphne wore in Harper's Bazaar.

I love these two as a couple. What a festive way to celebrate two important events in their life. Mariah looks like a dream.
