Breaking news that you already knew: Ricky Martin is really really hot. Nothing makes that more undeniably clear than sitting with him in his Evita green room with five other journalists, all enveloped in the BEST smelling, perfectly humidified air for a The Bachelor-style group date (or round table interview, whatever you prefer to call it *hair flip*). The cause for the mid-week a fairytale moment? Ricky's involvement with MAC Cosmetics' Viva Glam campaign and World AIDS Day (which is Saturday, December 1 a.k.a. tomorrow!). Last night, the Broadway star/philanthropist obliged us all with a few moments before showtime to discuss the collaboration and what it means to him.
Name a beauty look, and we're pretty sure (like, 99.999 REPEATING percent) that Demi Lovato has already has a rap sheet of slaying it on a daily basis. From colored tips to dark eyes with pale lips to straight-out-the-womb natural beauty, Demi is a beauty early-adopter and (with the aid of eyebrows so expertly sculpted they put the Statue of David to shame) WERQUES each trend every. single. time. This self-described "'90s grunge" steez with the one-tone matte complexion and RICH, dark lips is definitely no exception.

Not only does this cutie hold Jay-Z's coveted stamp of approval, you'll be cranking her anthemic "How We Do (Party)" all summer long. And fashionably speaking, girl is head-to-toe chic at all times. Even with pained expressions and screaming her lungs out on one of Coney Island's roller coasters.

Bold colors dazzled on the red carpet at the 2012 People's Choice Awards, and we're not just talking about the clothes. Kat Dennings, Lea Michele, and Kelly Osbourne all opted for a daring hue on their lips, which we could not get enough of! Kat looked like a retro pin-up beauty with her porcelain skin, sultry soft waves, heavily lined lids, and classic fire engine red lips. The 2 Broke Girls star paired her fearless pout with a simple black wrap top, black flared waist-tie skirt, and sky-high pumps for a simple, clean, and not too over-the-top chic '60s look. Lea Michele went all-out magenta on her shiny smackers, and you know what? It looks AMAZING. Here's why: She left the rest of her hair and makeup super simple and paired it with a solid all-white fringe Marchesa dress as to not distract from her lips. We love when girls experiment with their makeup, and this cool color looks especially perfect against the Glee girl's olive skin tone.
Beauty looks from Miu Miu's Fall 2011 show and Dior's Fall 2010 show. Photo: Getty Images
We've seen ombre hair, we've tried ombre nails, but have you heard of ombre lips? We were tipped off to this beauty trend on Lauren Conrad's blog TheBeautyDepartment.com, and were instantly drawn to the subtle shading within the lips. There's two ways you can go with this look: a lighter color in the middle softly blending into a more pigmented shade (like at the Fall 2011 Miu Miu show on the left) or keeping the color super strong in the middle and fading to almost nothing around the edges (like at the Fall 2010 Dior show on the right. The look is also sometimes known as "wine-stained lips" because it's reminiscent of, well, a long night after drinking lots of red wine. Not like we'd know from experience or anything...*cough*).
So, you think you're ready to take the plunge and try this bold lip trend? Amy Nadine from TheBeautyDepartment.com gives some tips for achieving this look on your own. But remember, this isn't about a light lipstick paired with super dark liner—it's all about the shading to create a 3-D effect. Let's make that pout POP!
Seeing the words "Snooki" and "pale" in the same sentence is, I think, surprising to the point of reality-bending. Like, I'm expecting the walls to start melting and crying at any moment, and yet all things are the same save the juxtaposition of these two words. I guess I should be a little less freaked out since the paleness is relegated to the Snookster's lips and not the entirety of her prized bronze skin, but still. Shocking, right?? Our Jersey Shore princess has been rocking this frosted lipstick look for at least a couple weeks now, and we're still shuffling our feet, not sure how we feel about it.

Whoa. Fire. The ladies were smoking hot on the 2011 Teen Choice Awards' blue carpet last night. And Zooey Deschanel, Chelsea Hobbs, andHolland Roden took it a step further to sport super sultry fire-engine-red matte lips with their feminine frocks. The triptych of beauties weren't afraid to go bold, a move we DEFINITELY applaud. They prove that a bright lip is more versatile than we thought—whether you have chestnut hair and blue eyes or red hair and hazel eyes, a scarlet lip looks UH-MAZING as the cherry on top of any beauty look.

Wowowowowoowowowow. There's just something SO Lisa Frank insane and Jem and the Holograms maniacal and trulytrulytruly outrageous about these lip tattoos. As you can see from the aforementioned cultural references, I am 1 million years old, and while I can certainly appreciate the appeal of Violent Lips temporary lip tattoos, I'm not sure that I would be equipped with the chutzpah to make it twerk. My friend Kerin does this thing where she applies (and this is genius) lipstick, a thin coat of very, very fine glitter, and a top coat of, get this, LASH GLUE to achieve to the glitter iterations of VIOLENT lips but this? The animal print?
IDK. Only because here's the thing. I can't mess with any of this because I lack fine motor skills from sitting hunched at a desk typing for hours while the sun rises and sets behind me not that I notice at all because I can't even see natural light anymore so I can't DO things like fake lashes, intricate nail designs or mess around with sticky things that need an instructional video and a "wet sponge" and the repeated utterance of "aaaaaah" while you apply and peel wee bits of plastic-backed paper. I am one of those people who, if I didn't have WAY BETTER than 20/20 vision (mwahahaha), I would have to wear glasses because contacts would be a mess and the sink under my medicine cabinet would pool with eyeblood and many, many tears. Tears that would sting.
In short (hahhahha, yeah right) I SUPPORT that there's something vaguely predatory and menacing about calling attention to the GIANTNESS of one's mouth and it looking sort of man-repellantish with how NEON and obtrusive it all is (ask ANY dude, if they're not total hipsters they prefer pale/glossy/nude/pinkblablablablbala for lips). But for me personally? Way too fussy. Now you. Y or N? Bet Ke$ha would LUR this.
Lipstick is the new place to get crazy with color (nope, it's not just nails, anymore!). Just take a look at the latest trend in lip color — rainbow brights. Back in May, singer VV Brown showed up to the 30th anniversary party for Express with green lips, and Ke$ha painted her pout bright blue at Casio's Shock the World event last week. So, how do you get your lips to look like you just had an insane makeout session with a smurf?

Beige, summer’s must-have shade, isn't just for clothes. Right now, it's must-have for beauty as well, particularly the lips, as proven by celebs like Lea Michele, Eva Mendes, Emma Roberts, Stephanie Pratt, and Kristin Cavallari. And that means we're itching to snag some, especially ones that have a slight hint of shimmer without turning your lips into a sparkle factory. One of our favorite new hues is nearly-sheer Liquid Lurex ($14.50) from M.A.C.'s new Digi-Pop collection, which has little specks of glitter in it. Because it is so sheer, it's great to wear alone, but you can also turn it into something vivid by layering it on top of your favorite deep berry shade. For more pigment, try Shu Uemura's Rouge Unlimited Lipstick in 906 ($23), which goes on as a more saturated nude. And if you want an even deeper, richer neutral, try Nars's Satin Lipstick in Promiscuous ($24), which we love for its bronze undertones. Go ahead, shine on.
