Much to the dismay of naysayers/trend forecasters everywhere, nail art ain't goin' nowhere, y'all. In fact, I'm happy to report that it's alive and well and majorly #THRIVING on the Fall 2014 runways at New York Fashion Week. Nail artists pulled out all the stops this season with a brand new class of innovative designs, patterns, textures, and shapes. If you're still struggling to paint both hands without going through an entire bag of cotton balls and polish remover (no shade), you might want to take some notes. Unless you're into the finger-dipped trend, in which case, carry on. Check out our picks for the most creative nail art designs from New York Fashion Week after the jump!

Here we have a small sampling of the nail art The Blonds sent down the runway for their Fall 2014 show. Welp, that'll do it, ladies and gentlemen. I think we can all go home now. They won nails. Congrats, CND. I don't even know how to describe half of these, because they are SO insanely detailed. Also because there are SO many. Like, there's at least fifteen in plain view. And that's not even counting those pink pointy suckers (which would no doubt get flagged as weapons by the T.S.A.). Just when we thought it couldn't get more diverse than last season's show, The Blonds went and outdid themselves. Literally.

Cushnie et Ochs called in their BFF manicurist, Pattie Yankee, for this stiletto-tipped, iridescent, oil-slick paint job that created a holographic illusion in certain kinds of light. HOLOGRAPHS, people. On fingernails. What's next? A life-size projection of a shirtless 2Pac performing the show's soundtrack? (Hey, it could happen.)
Gwen Stefani's OPI nail polish set.
A new year means a new class of music x brand collaborations and up first is Gwen Stefani’s long-awaited nail polish line for OPI. We first reported on the perfectly matched collaboration last October (Stefani has always been a nail art pro and a pioneer at the intersection of music and fashion) and, last November, posted the leggy and very platinum promo pics for the line’s signature shade, “Over & Over.” Now you can grab the collection at ULTA—with the exception of “Over & Over” (no word yet on when that shade will be available for sale).
Step aside, Angelina's right leg. There's a new show-stealing limb in town and it belongs to Gwen Stefani. More than a month after announcing that she'd be collaborating with OPI on her very own nail polish collection, Stefani flashed some majorly toned leg in one of two new promo pics posted on Twitter. Hey baby, hey baby, HEY. Both shots are totally drenched in a deep, rich red—from her dual-slit, Asian-inspired gown to her lips, nails and the background itself. It's striking, for sure, but it also happens to be the line's signature shade: Over & Over A-Gwen. SO PUNNY!

The rumors were true! Mariah Carey did release a holiday nail polish collection with OPI and it contains 18 different polishes! The collection is heavy on red—it is for holiday, after all—but there are whites, blues, and grays included, too. Mimi has got you covered on all your holiday nail needs. Use a different polish for each party you attend and you'll still have many a color left to use for all your non-party days.

Sorry I’m not home right now, I’m
walking in the spiderwebs painting my nails LIKE GWEN STEFANI (so leave a message and I’ll call you back). ICYMI, OPI just announced that Stefani will be the latest celebrity to collaborate on a nail polish collection with the star-savvy brand and TBH, this makes ALL the sense. Gwen is no doubt (heh) a major style icon (the hair, the lipstick, the abs), and this is the ~perfect~ addition to her ever-growing fashion empire, which already includes her L.A.M.B clothing/accessories line and her Harajuku Lovers perfumes.

Naughty rumor or nice surprise? Right around this time last year, we found out that Mariah Carey had been pegged to design TWO limited-edition celebrity nail color collections with polish giant, OPI. The first—which rolled out Liquid Sand, a new glitter-glinting textured finish—was released in January with promises of a second on the near-future horizon. Well, it looks like Christmas may come early this year, you guys. Word on the street is that since we've been SO well-behaved, the second Carey-branded collection MIGHT be a whole heap of Holiday-inspired polishes, just as we’d hoped for. (Cue the five-octave squeals!) Read More...
With all the rumors surrounding the intended subject matter of Justin Bieber's brand new Believe Acoustic tracks, it's hard NOT to have Selena Gomez on the brain today. It's not just because we've been listening to "Yellow Raincoat" on repeat — we're ALSO stumbling on a ton of Selena FASHUN news! First and foremost, the collection of Nicole by OPI nail polishes inspired by Selena hit shelves this month, and just in time for their release, we found this behind-the-scenes video from the campaign shoot.

It's HEERRRREEE! Just a couple months ago we broke the news that Mariah Carey would be teaming up with OPI to create a limited-edition collection of polishes, and today we FINALLY get to peep all the goodies. Eeee! The set of lacquers, which are set to launch in January 2013, feature eight Mariah-inspired colors, including a new, never-before-seen nail texture called "liquid sand." Oh la la! OPI says this new polish "dries to a textured matte finish infused with reflective glints of light." Whoa, guys, is this, like, 3D glitter for our nails because we can TOTALLY get behind that. I mean, of course Mariah's nail polish collection would have glitter in it—she's the queen of all-things sparkly and, um, it was also the name of her oh-so-iconic album/film. (Also, let's not forget that custom "Glitter" nameplate belt buckle she wore back in '01. Yep.) Anywho, onto the nails!

Yeah that's right, Mariah Carey doesn't get just ONE OPI nail polish collection like regular celebs like Katy Perry or Nicki Minaj, no. The reigning queen of octave-spanning-soul has just signed with the nail polish giant for two collections, the first debuting in January of 2013, and the second later that year. While we thought that the "All I Want For Christmas Is You" singer would surely be releasing a holiday collection, it's not so, but we're sure her polishes will warm our chilly mid-winter fingers in January nonetheless. Indeed, this is going to be a pretty huge year for Mariah and her fans. What with a new album in the works (we suspect), teased by her recent single "Triumphant (Get 'em)," and her seat at the American Idol judges table, so it's only natural that more collaborations and collections would be in the works. We're not going to call it a comeback because Mariah never went away, but it's been awhile since she was out in such force. She had not just one but two babies last year though (are we sensing a pattern), so her fans can handle the wait.
Chelsea Wolfe, pop witch goddess.
Photo: Angel Ceballos
I'm really into this whole "Pop Witch" thing, which probs relates to my Saturday night ritual of partaking in a DIY seance in my witch-stick-smoke-filled bedroom whilst watching the '90s movie magic known as The Craft for the bajillionth time. #FairuzaBalk4Evs We've already got some spooky company in the Pop Witch department (see: Stevie Nicks' iconic shadowy bohemian frocks and Florence Welch's billowing gothic Goddess numbers.) But make (b)room (LOLz) for indie shadow-y siren, Chelsea Wolfe, y'all, whose tunes are often awesomely described as "doom-drenched electric folk." Besides the mind-losing reviews for her most recent LP, Apokalypsis (WHUT!), there's also her UH-MAZING style game-particularly her penchant for a good veil. *Sartorial spirit fingers* So, for this week's Favorite Things, I had a chat with the dark crooner about her killer closet, which includes a seriously spooky horse hair and horn cuff/and which may or may not have resulted in me sliding under my desk. *J'Dead* In other words, don't mind me as I pretend it's 2004 while getting a tramp stamp with my fave Wolfe lyrics ("We could be two straight lines in a crooked world") before, duh, uploading that ish all up on mah MySpace. #EmoChic
