Lorde at the 2014 MuchMusic Video Awards.

While the Jenners were in various states of undress—exposing pelvic bones and other body parts—at this weekend's MuchMusic Awards, Lorde made just as big of a statement wearing not one but two pantsuits, which have become something of her signature look. They weren't your average Zzz-inducing black two-pieces, because Lorde is literally incapable of being boring. Rather, both were intensely '90s, undeniably #normcore (as eye-rolly as that descriptor is, it couldn't be more neccessary here), and in unexpected hues.

That's right, Katy Cats! Your fearless ruler Katy Perry (she likes to go by "Mom") is headed for the 2013 Video Music Awards. Filling out an already star-studded lineup (so far including Lady Gaga and Kanye West), Katy will use her VMA appearance Sunday, August 25, at 9 p.m. ET at Brooklyn's Barclays Center for the premier live performance of her brand new single, "Roar." KP's been a VMA mainstay since her One Of The Boys mainstream debut, so in honor of her history-making homecoming (and in anticipation of what "new" Katy will wear for her performance, we're taking a look back at her VMA style evolution. Leggo!

It's been a minute since we were first introduced to this version of KP: bubbly, blue-eyed and owner of one of the summer's hottest (in more ways than one) singles "I Kissed A Girl." For her breakout VMA appearance in 2008, Katy went for a red carpet look that mirrored the boudoir feel of her music video: a white satin bustier top with a demi halter neck and silver star embellishments, peach satin hotpants with maribou feather adornments, metallic fuschia round-toe pumps, and a glittery hard case clutch decorated with star-spangled rhinestones. Her lips were red, her liquid liner pristine, and she had a bow-shaped barrette in her hair.

Rita Ora

Rita Ora's Elle Women In Music Issue cover.
Photo: Elle

Earlier this month, we showed you one of the interior shots of Rita Ora's Elle Women In Music issue spread, where she broke from the theme set by Adele's soft and sultry cover in a futuristic Maison Martin Margiela couture dress and black headpiece. Well, today we got our greedy Rita Ora-loving paws on not just one but TWO of the singer's covers, and they are amazing beyond our wildest dreams. The first cover, which is in color, features Rita looking like a bubblegum queen in a pale pink Chanel Haute Couture gown and matching Ken O'Rourke headpiece, her red lipstick and dark, strong brows making quite a statement (and are giving us serious beauty inspiration) against the stark gray background. Although her first cover is undoubtedly high, high fashion—you don't get much higher than Chanel, after all—there's a playfulness that we just can't help but note in the interplay between the ruffles across the neckline of the dress and the exaggerated, peony-shaped headpiece. We've also been following Ms. Rita for long enough to know that she's both playful and a risk-taker, so a stuffy cover just isn't in her nature.

Lady Gaga Philip Treacy

Lady Gaga opens up Philip Treacy's spring 2013 show during London Fashion Week on Sept. 16.
Photo: Getty Images

Whew, Lady Gaga's been busy this week! Exactly seven days ago, she was spotted in London wearing a white gown that resembled a wedding dress to the Arts Club in Mayfair, then she flew back to NYC to promote her Fame fragrance (complete with a partially-shaved head and skull tattoo), and just this weekend she was back across the pond making QUITE the impression during London Fashion Week. For the first time in 12 years, iconic Irish milliner Philip Treacy (yes, the guy who made Princess Beatrice's infamous pink fascinator) showed his collection during LFW, and Lady Gaga did her best to properly support the designer—by opening his show in a dramatic sheer pink burka over a floral-embellished nude bodysuit. She stepped out onto the pitch black runway with nothing but a spotlight and the sound of her platform heels hitting the ground, extended her arms out to the side and said, "Ladies and gentlemen, the greatest milliner in the world, Philip Treacy—in the clothes of the late Michael Jackson. Open fashion!" And just when we thought that would be the highlight of the show, Lady Gaga continued to switch up her ensemble off the runway so many times we could barely keep up.

Madonna Super Bowl

In case you missed it, Madonna put on one heck of a performance at Sunday's Super Bowl, singing not three, as originally reported, but FIVE songs from her arsenal of hits and doing it all while wearing sparkling Givenchy. We knew the Queen of Pop was gonna bring it (and with recent collaborators Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. in tow), but we had NO idea she was going to parade some of her greatest hits in designer Spartan-wear while also singing a duet with Cee Lo Green in matching sequin choir robes. Yes, it was epic (and polarizing for the love-it or hate-it audience), but we have to give a standing O to the original pop music superstar diva. Not only did she bring half-clothed gladiator "Vogue" boys and b-boy dancers wearing Jeremy Scott for Adidas to the show, she exploded some serious FASH-PIZAZZ confetti dust all over the world of American football. Let's dissect this sparkle motion, shall we?

No doubt you Little Monsters have already nailed the "watch it, learn the dance, load the video to YouTube, repeat" routine on Lady Gaga's music video for "'Yoü And I," which has shown up scattered like a trillion Easter eggs all over the interwebz over the past 48 hours. You've probably already gone and pored over all the envy-making FASHUN rampant in every frame.

You were all, "Where can I get a pair of those heels? Or that hat? Or ZOINKS, is that the custom leather HARNESS I'VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR?!??" Well, great news for you. Not only do we have aaaaall the fashion credits (thanks to Gaga fashion director Nicola Formichetti), but we've nabbed an EXTENSIVE, super exclusive interview and studio tour with Gaga's leather designer Zana Bayne, courtesy of our main man, Rory Rockmore.

Soooooooooooooooo, last Saturday I had the pleasure of sitting down with one of the baddest bitches in leather, Miss Zana Bayne, creator and HBIC of Zana Bayne Leather. Who is Zana Bayne?

Beyoncé and Christina Aguilera on the July 2011 cover of 'W' magazine.
All Photos Courtesy of W Magazine

There comes a time in every magazine's existence when the images from within the publication's sacred binding is leaked by some disgruntled employee on a one-way train to Fired-ville (*cough* or the marketing department *cough*). It's happened to V Magazine, Rolling Stone, and Vogue among MANY others, including this month's victim, W magazine. Not one but TWO covers leaked featuring Beyoncé (who is no stranger to the premature reveal) and Christina Aguilera as the faces of the mag's July "Music & Style" issue. And thankfully, W uploaded the REAL covers and spreads to their website, so that we no long have to strain our eyes at the bootleg image quality of scans and snapshots of the glossies against linoleum floors. WEE!!!

For their respective shoots, Bey and Xtina assumed roles seemingly contradictory to how we usually see these ladies. Beyoncé, who's all "HALO" and stuff, dons this S&M lace-up bodice, evoking comparisons to Charlotte Rampling from The Night Porter to where you're sure if they had only panned the camera down 2 feet lower, you'd see her holding a bridle and a riding whip. Also handcuffs. Meanwhile, the long-standing DIRRTY girl cleaned up and combed her hair for her soft, feminine, artistically nakie, Birth-of-Venus-esque cover (though, she does seem to be channeling an earlier Lady Gaga and we haven't forgotten what piercings she's hiding with those roses). While the actual fairy godmother image-leaker is unknown, what I do know for sure is that when this hits newsstands, coworkers beware, these pages will be decoupaged ALLLL over this EA's desk. Now, peruse some of the in-book pics (with fash and beauty credits from W!) from their spreads below and read Bey and Xtina's cover stories while I order a few dozen drums of glue and goldleaf.

Lady Gaga was arguably the biggest style star of the year. She did it all, from transforming herself into a man for the September cover of Vogue Hommes Japan, to showing up in a head-to-toe meat dress at MTV’s Video Music Awards. Between her daring red carpet numbers and her embellished and sculpted performance ensembles, the pop star made headlines every time she stepped out of her hotel room! We can't wait to see how Lady Gaga reinvents herself in 2011, but in the meantime, let’s look back at her top style moments from 2010.

AT THE BRIT AWARDS: Lady Gaga looked almost ghostly at the 2010 Brit Awards, where she showed up in a custom-made Francesco Scognamiglio tiered cape. She stuck with the white theme by wearing a huge wig and lace mask by London milliner Philip Treacy.

AT THE amfAR GALA: The singer showed off another head-to-toe white outfit at the amFAR Gala in New York City last February. Lady Gaga wore a textured white blazer with matching panties, hat and heeled boots. But her body decorations were what had people talking! The pop icon glued white pearls to her face to finish the look. We say, that’s dedication!!

ON THE VMA RED CARPET: The pop star paid tribute to the late designer Alexander McQueen in one of his colorful creations at MTV’s 2010 Video Music Awards. Lady Gaga walked the red carpet in a floor-length gown from his Fall 2010 collection.

IN HER VMA MEAT DRESS: Lady Gaga’s infamous meat dress was, without a doubt, the year’s most talked about outfit. Designed by Franc Fernandez, the jaw-dropping look was made with REAL beef. And even though Fernandez used more than 50 pounds of meat, the designer said Gaga told him it was one of the most comfortable dresses she's ever worn!

AT THE GRAMMY AWARDS: Lady Gaga was dressed for the Grammy Awards exclusively by Armani Privé. From her lilac solar system dress, to her sparkly green stage number and white lightening bolt look, Gaga stole the show with both her in-your-face style and stage performances.

IN FISHNETS: Taylor Momsen, is that you? Lady Gaga reminded us of the Gossip Girl actress in this revealing look that she wore for Lollapalooza in August, which included ripped fishnet stockings and a sheer top. We love how she tried to be modest by covering her nipples with star stickers! Classic Gaga.

IN A SHEER BODYSUIT: Gaga continued with the sheer theme during an October performance in Los Angeles, where the pop star sported a see-through body suit adorned with sequins and studs. Lady Gaga carried the embellished look all the way down to her studded booties!

WITH SUN HAIR: It wasn’t her outfit (which was relatively tame for the performer), but Gaga’s crazy hairdo that stunned us at the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. It's no wonder Gaga sported dark shades indoors...her hair looked like a big, bright sun.

IN TOUR OUTFITS: Lady Gaga loved Giorgio Armani’s designs so much that she tapped him to design several of her tour outfits! We can’t get over how colorful, voluminous, and sculptured each piece looked—and Gaga pulled them off fabulously.

ON MAGAZINE COVERS: Lady Gaga’s magazine appearances were anything but cookie-cutter. She appeared on the September 2010 cover of Vogue Hommes Japan as her male alter ego, Jo Calderone, went topless for her cover shoot with Vanity Fair, and sported a machine gun bra and black thong for Rolling Stone.

I love these two as a couple. What a festive way to celebrate two important events in their life. Mariah looks like a dream.
