Valentine's Day is great and all, but you know what we REALLY love? Cute clothes. Bonus points if they're actually affordable, and even better if they're from one of our favorite designers, Prabal Gurung. All three of these incredible things collided last night at the celebration of the New York CFDA winner's newest collab with Target, a huge dream date-inspired affair featuring food trucks, indoor rides, and a performance by Ne-Yo (which, PS, if you haven't witnessed editors and It girls getting down to R&B love songs, then you don't know what you're missing!). Clearly the fashion industry's love for the singer is mutual— Ne-Yo told us on the red carpet that he'd just returned from Paris Fashion Week. "I went to the Givenchy and Versace shows in Paris and loved both of them," he said. "And I gotta admit, when I met Donatella Versace for the first time, I got a little crush on her!" Actresses Elizabeth Olsen, Carey Mulligan, Analeigh Tipton, and campaign star Olivia Thirlby also turned out on the red carpet decked out in Prabal for Target, Elizabeth pairing her dress with an oversized blazer, Carey with a leather coat, and Analeigh with her mom's vintage army jacket. The America's Next Top Model contestant-turned- Warm Bodies star told us she borrows her mom's stuff all the time now that she realizes how cool it is. Aww!
Back in October, we fell head over heels with the first look from Prabal Gurung's collection for Target. The collection, which the designer described as being inspired by "a girl’s journey through the different stages of love and the clothes she wears during each milestone—from the first date to meeting the parents to the engagement," is whimsical and bright, with strong lines and playful accents, and it was a challenge to pick just five favorite pieces. Versatile and wearable, these are pieces that could take you from brightening up your office to as Gurung intended, a first date, with ease. While some of the pieces are a bit too bright to be accurately and honestly called 'practical,' the line's affordable price point, starting at just $12.99, makes it totally ok to have a little bit of fun! So, without further ado, our 5 favorite pieces:

Ok, we're kind of about to cheat with this one, cramming all three pieces in. I mean, how could we not. An all floral crush shorts suit? yes please. The blazer is $49.99 and could totally dress up jeans at work or be paired with a skirt (maybe even in a different pattern? Hello springtime!). Under it, the long sleeve tee is $19.99, and while this might not be one of our favorite pieces on its own, it's a great way to add a pop of floral to an outfit. Finally, THOSE SHORTS. At $26.99, the shorts in floral crush print are very close to the top of our list (although we're not putting this in order on purpose). We could wear them all spring and summer long.
Prabal Gurung's Target collection is floral and feminine.
Here's the thing about designer capsule collections: you have to be committed. At this point, it's a given that if you want to pay retail for items sold in one of Target (or H&M's) designer collaborations, you're either going to have lightning fast internet and a whip-quick clicking finger, or be willing to brave insane shoppers and even more insane lines at a retail location. Otherwise, you'll quickly find that the items you've been lusting after since the collab images were released are going for 10 times their original price on Ebay. There are some collections that are just too good to be ignored, though, and Prabal Gurung for Target is one of them. The designer, who has been called "this generations Oscar De La Renta" and has created jaw dropping red carpet looks for the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, awesome nail strips with Sally Hansen, not to mention consistently cutting edge runway collections year in and year out. His collection, which is inspired by "a girl’s journey through the different stages of love and the clothes she wears during each milestone—from the first date to meeting the parents to the engagement," Gurung told Target for their official press release, and pieces are priced from $12.99 to $199.99. It will be in stores February 9th.
