Best Coast covered Fleetwood Mac's "Storms" on Fallon.
Photo: Bethany Cosentino's Instagram/Getty

Last night, almost the entire Style team watched as Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino covered Fleetwood Mac's "Storms" at New York City's Terminal 5. She was wearing an understated all black outfit--a black tank and jeans and a pair of black clog sandals--and commanded in a way that we're sure would have made her predecessor Stevie Nicks very proud had she been there to witness it. Just hours before, Bethany and the rest of her band performed the same song on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, their second time on the show (the first was performing "Boyfriend" off of their debut record, Crazy For You). For the performance, Bethany looked equal parts bewitching and contemporary, dripping in Pamela Love's architectural, amulet-like pyramid rings, a bracelet and an breastplate necklace that almost doubles as a collar for her midi-length Rachel Comey Dress. The dress, which is a fluid black halter with buttons from the waist down (very Elaine Benes from Seinfeld, only sexier and more modern, we must say), isn't quite as flamboyant as a classic Stevie Nicks look, but we love how Bethany stays true to her own unique take on the California Valley witch vibe that Stevie is the godmother of. Finished off with a pair of Marc Jacobs split wedges and flowing tresses, Bethany's super simple, timeless look was nearly as breathtaking as her tender cover of the heartbreaking Fleetwood Mac ballad she sang.

Kelly Clarkson Lucky Magazine

We could NOT have been happier when we discovered Lucky magazine was coming out with its first-ever music issue this August (I mean, fashion + music = haiiiii), but when we realized Kelly Clarkson was the cover girl, our minds basically exploded. No one truly encompasses that all-American look like Kelly does, so of course she went for a jeans and T-shirt ensemble for her cover debut. She wore a coated tweed Rachel Comey coral jacket with a burgundy scoop neck Michael Stars top, a brown Lucky belt, Diesel jeans and tons of beaded jewelry. This is an outfit Kelly would TOTALLY wear IRL, and we love that! She even said in her Lucky interview, "In Texas, we practically come out of the womb in jeans." Now THAT'S commitment. #denimdiapers

New York Fashion Week for fall 2012 had its fair share of trends, but if there was one constant we noticed from show to show, it was the heavy use of orange. We're not just talking any orange, either, we mean gentle swaths of carrot and sienna, or all-over blasts of persimmon and atomic tangerine. It's always strange to see so many designers go for the same idea. Do they call each other up and say, "Orange for fall! I'll take neon if you go with burnt sunshine." Seriously, how do they all seem to choose the same colors? Who knows, but we like the tang of this orange thing. It seems like a hard color to pull off, but after seeing the way so many designers used it—from wool coats and lace dresses to belted trousers and mixed prints—we're excited to take a sip of this juice.

Some designers fully embraced orange and shouted it in loud, all-over statements. Rachel Comey paired a generously cut safety orange wool coat over black trousers and added a white clutch for a modern cosmopolitan look. Michael Kors went for super uptown glam with a fur-rimmed electric orange coat and matching silk dress. And Nanette Lepore—who always designs the sweetest array of dresses—sent diffused orange neon lace down the runway with a hint of sparkle, gray tights, and metallic blue peep-toe heels. Something to note? The makeup was kept fairly simple, but we especially like the use of matching lip color at Michael Kors.

Rachel Comey Fall 2012 New York Fashion Week Show.
Photo: Getty Images

Dear Rachel Comey and Vorhees. This is exactly how we would dream our perfect New York Fashion Week experience to begin. Not only are we treated to a wonderful new season of clothes to ogle and lust after, but to be introduced to fresh garments underscored by a LIVE performance?? *wipes away single happy tear* Our hearts are overflowing with so much unbridled fash + music collision JOY that we can hardly contain ourselves. Being treated to the ethereal moany synths of Vorhees IN THE FLESH while images of Rachel Comey's mod conservative collection traipsing down the runway wash over your brain is so much more than we could have ever asked for. From fascinating illusion garter socks, structured clutches with bar handles, the BEST day-to-day shoe game, and that exquisite tangerine funnel neck coat, Rachel Comey nailed the details and will surely recur many times over in our accessories wrap-up at the end of the week. But real talk, it's taking a whole LOT of fibers of my being to confine myself to this browser window instead of travelling even further down the Vorhees/Dana Wachs rabbit hole that I've already begun to dig.

Taylor Swift on the cover of the August 2011 'Teen Vogue.'
All Photos Courtesy of Teen Vogue

There is something going on with this Teen Vogue spread of Taylor Swift that is just so flawless, so completely ideal, that if we never saw Taylor on the cover of a magazine again, we'd be OK. It's not that we don't want Taylor to never be a cover girl again, but this moment that Teen Vogue captured is so idyllic, such unbridled adolescence, soooooo nostalgic that we want this to be ingrained in our brainses forever.

What we've got here is a real-deal magazine cover from 1992. This is the stuff we used to steal from our older sisters. Look at Tay's hair: gently frizzy, atop a porcelain complexion and dark, nonlined lips. Then, below, we are treated to a cashmere-blend shirt with a boatneck, showing off just a hint of bling. Taylor Swift: On this cover, you are the most beautiful babysitter we have ever had.

The Upper East Siders are back, and as decked out in Marchesa and Diane Von Furstenberg as ever. Last night's episode of Gossip Girl ("The Kids Stay in the Picture") opens with the media blitz surrounding Lily Humphrey's (Kelly Rutherford) legal woes--remember when she signed her daughter's name on an affidavit that sent an innocent man to jail (it's really wayyyyy more complicated than that, but...). The subplot centers around the massive amounts of drama created by the photo shoot for a fancy pants annual who's who book called Modern Royalty (basically, it's a coffee table book filled with portraits of rich families). Meanwhile, Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) wonders why he's suddenly getting the cold shoulder from Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester). News flash, Chucky-boo, she kissed Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) and the two caught feelings for each other...or so we thought. Blair actually realized that it's Chuck she wants. Ugh! Love triangles! Oh, and there's a new Upper East Sider on the block. Serena Van Der Woodsen's (Blake Lively) sheltered cousin Charlie (Kaylee DeFer) spends a day in the Van Der Woodsen world, and falls in love (hello! what's not to love about Rouland Mouret?). After Serena buys Charlie $1000 worth of clothes, Carol (Charlie's mom and Lily's sister) flips. Against her mother's will, Charlie decides she wants to stay on the UES indefinitely. Charlie's mom hints at a past situation serious enough to get her kicked out of school. Hmmm...the way she was eying Blair's Coco Chanel and Louboutins...and Dan, we wonder if the secret is that she likes to take things. Watch your Prada, people.

New York Fall 2011 Fashion Week is in full swing (yay!), and we're hitting the tents and following the live streams to bring you the hottest trends, neat backstage beauty finds and the best-dressed front-rowers.

• Hippy-dippy accessories (turbans, John Lennon shades, etc.) gave Mara Hoffman's fall collection a serious bohemian vibe.

• Our personal fave is this slouchy, wrap sweater dress. Cute, right?

• Hard to see, but worth mentioning: to go along with the dark color palette, the models fingertips were dipped in black dye. Weird, but cool.

• Check out caftans, knits, and other cool looks from the collection here.

• The mantra, "a little goes a long way," did not apply at Vena Cava's fall runway show, where makeup artists covered models' lids and bottom lash lines with LOADS of multi-colored glitter.

• Sparkly makeup can quickly and easily go all wrong (hence, the models steady tilted head and hair clips). But Vena Cava teamed the princess-grunge makeup look with leather toppers, suede jackets, and platforms, making it SO right.

• Fashion blogger Bryanboy arrived at the Rachel Comey fashion show in black leggings, a fuzzy-collared fur coat (tons of attendees have been rocking fur, by the way), a gray striped tee, and 3-D-style sunglasses. But the crowning jewel of his ensemble was his curly fro wig.
