Nev Schulman

Usually models aren't supposed to teeth-smile, but we'll make an exception.

Millions of people tune in to Catfish every week, partly to see naive, love-blind saps get their hearts broken by the internet, but mostly to see Nev Schulman. If Nev wasn't an MTV star (represent!) or a certified expert on online dating or the official inventor of the verb "catfishing," he would be a model. Those cheekbones! That grin! Those eyes! Well, now all is right in the world. In addition to all those things, Nev can add "model" to his list.

Jay-Z, Pharrell Williams, Change Clothes

How's this for a Monday morning bombshell? It's been ten years since the release of Jay-Z's "Change Clothes" track featuring Pharrell Williams. Ten years!! And while the music video didn't exactly tell an accurate story of how time would unfold after its debut—it opens with Jay walking into what's meant to be his retirement party, though, spoiler alert: he released Kingdom Come just three years later—"Change Clothes" did have a strong and lasting influence on hip-hop style.

Jay Z

Talk about a Throwback Thursday! Back before Kanye West was selling out high fashion white tee collaborations, before A$AP Rocky was a fashion killa, there was a Brooklyn boy by the name of Jay Z (though, it had a hyphen then) building himself from a businessman into a "business, man" with a little streetwear line he dubbed Rocawear. Using Roc-A-Fella Records as the foundation, Mr. Shawn Carter and his long-time business partner Damon Dash decided they would spin the MC's success into other creative business avenues. Before Hov was rocking Tom Ford, he was making a sartorial name for the R-O-C. And on what red carpet did Jay rep Rocawear in its debut year? The 1999 VMAs, DUH.

It's true. Jay-Z really can make a Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee can. But when you're at the helm of a massive rebrand for a different sports team - enter the formerly New Jersey, now Brooklyn Nets - it's probably time to switch snapbacks. Even if it's one-of-one with a python overlain brim and gold buckle. *pours a little out for the fallen headgear* For years, Jay-Z has been lending favor via his status as a sartorial tastemaker to the Bronx Bombers, but with the impending opening of the shiny new Brooklyn Barclays Center around the corner, he's switching headgear (LUHHHH that leather Nets cap) and public focus across the river.

Jay-Z's Rocawear partners with the New York Yankees for 2012 baseball season.

As if the man doesn't already have his hands full raising American music's little princess, Blue Ivy Carter, Jay-Z has just announced that his revitalized Rocawear brand is partnering with the New York Yankees. Rocawear will have branded signage featured prominently in Yankee Stadium as part of an integrated promotional campaign rolling out this year. The news couldn't be coming at a more opportune time, at the top of the 2012 baseball season, and knowing that Jay "made the Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee can" (à la "Empire State of Mind") it seems like a natural fit. Key word: seems. Leave it to us mouth-breathing keyboard tappers to be forever skeptics, but we just can't shake the feeling that this Yankees deal might not quite fit in line with Hov's Brooklyn-centric personal branding let alone that of the reinvigorated Rocawear.

Rocawear is back! After laying off half of its employees at the beginning of 2012—and seemingly sticking to a style game stuck in the early aughts—as well as the news that Jay-Z's promotional contract had expired, the future of the once-popular urban streetwear label was uncertain. But Jay-Z recently spoke with WWD to set the record straight. Not only is Rocawear still around and doing well despite thinning out its staff, it is set to launch a whole new television campaign starring Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter himself.

rocawear spring 2012

Looks from Rocawear's spring 2012 collection.

Jay-Z has been in the news a lot lately. He's the brand-new proud father of Blue Ivy Carter, and for some reason, this happy news seems to have catalyzed somewhat critical chatter where the wee babe is concerned. Despite melting hearts with the new song, "Glory," which featured Blue's baby coos, there was the erroneous report that he was going to stop using the word bitch because he now has a daughter. His reps denied this, which made the media investigate deeper into the amount of times he used the word in his songs, and now there's speculation that Blue was the reason half of Rocawear's staff was laid off the day before her birth. That's a lot of pressure for a BABY, folks! As we're talking style here, perhaps the problems with Rocawear have more to do with the fact that its design elements seem to be stuck in the early aughts. Let's discuss, shall we?

Stop what you're doing. Drop whatever you're holding. Pull up a chair if you aren't already seated, and ready your eyeballs for THIS. Billionaire Boys Club, the beloved luxury streetwear brainchild of Pharrell Williams and Nigo (founder of A Bathing Ape) has signed on a new partner—drumrollllll—JAY-Z!! This is seriously BIG news because supplementing the BBC brand with Hova's extensive retail knowledge from running Rocawear, we're sure to be seeing a LOT more of Billionaire Boys Club.
