Lady Gaga

As it turns out, all of that confusion surrounding Lady Gaga’s new video was warranted. Even though it’s being billed as the visual for “G.U.Y.,” it’s more of a short film than a music video, split into four sections: “ARTPOP,” “Venus,” “G.U.Y.,” and “Manicure.” Did you expect any less from a video shot at a CASTLE over the course of a week? This is ARTPOP we’re talking about, where things are a little more abstract, even for Gaga. Clocking in at 11 minutes and 47 seconds, this is Gaga’s longest video to date which means (a) Brandon Maxwell had his hands full in the wardrobe department, and (b) much to our delight, there is an epic number of outfits to discuss.

In the opening “ARTPOP” shot, we see a bunch of men fighting over money as Gaga is left in a ditch with her back punctured by an arrow, looking like a wounded bird. The men walk away, picking up bills scattered across the hilltop floor on their way out, and Gaga struggles to pull out the arrow. Now, I don’t speak Gaga but I can guess that all of this imagery is an allusion to the age-old existential struggle between art and commerce. Even more interesting is the parallel, whether intentional or not, to Kanye West’s short film for “Runaway,” which also features a Phoenix character played by Selita Ebanks.

Selena Gomez

A still from 'Searching,' a short film starring Selena Gomez.
Photo: Flaunt

When we peeped Selena Gomez's Flaunt Magazine spread last week, we were totally digging her blunt bob. Despite our positive feelings, in the corresponding short film that was just released, it's clear Selena was not feeling her new 'do.

The video begins with Selena in bed, in the same lingerie/skirt combo from the shoot. Also in bed? That shirtless guy! He's known by his family, friends, and fans as Shiloh Fernandez. He plays guitar (shirtless), nuzzles Selena (shirtless), and smiles (shirtless). Just as we were getting used to him, he disappears.

Shaun Ross and Lana Del Rey in 'Tropico'.

It feels like we haven't seen Lana Del Rey in forever, but just this week the self-proclaimed "angel headed hipster" released some huge news on her Twitter feed--she's starring in a short film! She posted the simple tweet "TROPICO" along with an image featuring her and model Shaun Ross standing side by side in a dark forest. We don't know much (OK, fine, anything) about the movie, but judging by their outfits, we have a feeling it's going to be pretty amazing. Lana sported a bikini made entirely of roses and leaves, which kind of looks like two flower crowns... for your body? We don't know how exactly to describe the floraly nature of her ensemble, but let's just say someone did some serious work to keep those bad boys in place. *bows down*

I love these two as a couple. What a festive way to celebrate two important events in their life. Mariah looks like a dream.
