Jenna Lyons

You don’t have to be Imelda Marcos or Cinderella to appreciate why this isn't your ordinary news about shoes.

• According to J.Crew's queen supreme Jenna Lyons, there are two types of shoes: "Shiny Ponies" and "Ugly Dollies." A delicious behind-the-scenes video explains. {Racked National}

Obviously there is a shoe for every neighborhood in NYC. And whether or not you're a city dweller, this handy guide 1.) exists and 2.) is fantastically accurate. {Refinery 29}

Vans continues to dominate capsule collections by teaming up with Comme des Garçons. We're hoping that the shoe makes it stateside because it's just plain pretty. {Highsnobiety}

Ugg boots have never been completely immune to derision, but the folks at the Conservative Political Action Conference have some very specific thoughts about them. {The Cut}

• And finally, we are much obliged to share this public service announcement for all sneakerheads with Instagram shortcomings. {Complex}

Macklemore

Macklemore is the "Celebrity Sneaker Stalker" guest editor for "Nice Kicks."
Photo: Getty Images/Nice Kicks

Macklemore has made it inarguably clear that he. loves. thrift-shopping. He's made appearance after appearance doling out his thrifting tips and tricks for those of less-than-expert status on the Goodwill grind. Slightly less talked about, though, is Macklemore's deep-seated love of sneakers (he might say, to a fault, as he raps on "Wing$"). Well, that's changing now as Mack has assumed the title of guest editor for sneaker blog Nice Kicks's Celebrity Sneaker Stalker (or CSS for short) franchise for the month of January.

Sneaker Nail Art

Nails inspired by Air Jordan 1 Phat sneakers.

Last time we dove into the world of cray cray nail art, we got a tiny peek into the lives of lady sneakerheads who match their decked out nails to their even more amazing shoes. From the colors to the patterns to even the logo, these girls SERIOUSLY nailed it (and judging by the reaction over the new Air Jordans, sneakerheads don't mess around). But, hey, we're busybodies! We need to know MOAR. We had absolutely no problem searching the internetz for hours for our favorite sneaker-inspired designs, and our first find was some KILLER hot pink, black, and neon green Air Jordan 1 Phat sneakers. Whew, we need to get our hands on these! Eileen over at The Sneakerette used Essie Mod Squad, Wet n Wild French White Creme, China Glaze Electric Pineapple, and CM Nail Art in Black to create this neon French mani with a pebbled accent finger. We love how the white tips with the pink emulate the white sole paired with the shiny patent leather, and the accent from the inside of the shoe on her ring finger is just PERFECT. Jealz.

chanel sneakers

Chanel high-tops.

Spring 2012 is shaping up to be the season of the sneaker. We noticed a distinct sneaker trend emerging from the runway collections, but more important, we've been noticing them out on the streets more. We're not talking regular ol' sneaks you toss on with your jeans, either. We've spied ladies in full-on ready-to-be-pap'd outfits tossing a fluoro trainer up in the mix in anticipation for what's sure to come in the warmer months. Just to solidify that this is most definitely a trend, Chanel debuted items from its spring collection in Madrid recently, and the folks at Neo2 magazine snapped a photo of what are, quite possibly, the most killer pair of designer high-top sneakers we could ever want but probably never afford. See those neon puppies up there? Yeah, they're GAHMAZING and all that, but what are these beauties going to do to the proverbial wallet? We shudder to think; in fact, this Chanel high-top conundrum got us thinking about all of the other insane designer sneaks we long for come spring—namely Isabel Marant wedge sneaks and Alexander Wang trainers.

Celebs weren't the only ones who dressed to impress in 2010. Throughout the year, we hit the streets to get you to Show Us Your Style and, BOY, were we floored (in a very good way) by what we found. There was Tabia in NYC who we spotted rocking Tron-style sunglasses that, to this day, rival the cool quotient of 30 Seconds to Mars' frontman Jared Leto's animal print shield shades. And we loved seeing all of the marvelous odes to Lady Gaga style outside her New York City concert; our fave Little Monster was Chris who got creative with caution tape (à la Gaga's "Telephone" video). Read on for quotes and clips from other top street stylers.

TRENDY SUNGLASSES

We found Tabia, a 23-year-old who works in public relations, across the street from a Duane Reade in New York City. We were drawn to her entire ensemble—her torn jean vest/shirt, her metallic shell necklace, her braided 'do—but we were FIXATED on her outer space-inspired shades. "When I buy sunglasses, I look for something that other people don't have," said Tabia. Mission accomplished.

LADY GAGA'S LITTLE MONSTERS

New Yorker Chris was one of our favorite Little Monsters waiting outside a NYC Lady Gaga concert over the summer. Inspired by Gaga's "Telephone" video, Chris wore what he called "construction gear," which included caution tape, green shorts and flip-flops.

SNEAKER CON

What makes a sneaker hot? "It's gotta be clean, more than anything. No ripped-up bottoms, can't be squeezed up," said Seth from the Bronx. We spotted this sneakerhead at Sneaker Con in October wearing orange/black/purple Adidas with a pair of Kill City jeans, a shirt from Goliath, a tan cargo jacket, oversize glasses, and a gray bucket hat.

FAST FASHION

For Isabella, a 21-year-old from Cambridge, England, clothes are more than just cover-ups. "When I go shopping I look for stuff which is quite hard-core and rock 'n' roll because I'm in an '80s metal band back home. So I really really want to express my music through my style." When we saw the Cambridge, England native she was wearing a graphic tank top, denim short shorts, combat boots, and a shaved head, like singer Cassie.

SUMMER SHOES

We found Mikey, a fashion publicity student, over the summer wearing a funky pair of black Creative Recreation shoes, which he tucked his skinny jeans into. "I'm willing to spend like $200...I also have a red pair," Mikey added. We're not surprised! The kicks looked like a good investment—perfect for any season.

Jesse McCartney.
Photo: Brian Appio/MTV

Jesse McCartney is gearing up to release his fourth album, Have It All, in December, so he dropped by the MTV studios recently to talk music. The pop star told us he wanted his new album to be "timeless" — and that's the same word Jesse used to describe his style, too. The 23-year-old opened up about fashion and told us that he draws his fashion influences from classic icons, such as Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. And when it comes to trends, Jesse loves shoes (who doesn't?!). He even gets a new pair every week. Check out all the videos below to find out Jesse McCartney's thoughts on style — including his pet peeve about women's fashion.

JESSE MCCARTNEY ON HIS PERSONAL STYLE:
"I want to see a picture of myself in 20 years and not say to myself, 'What was I thinking?'"

JESSE MCCARTNEY ON HIS SHOE OBSESSION:
"I have to admit, I have a shoe fetish, man, I go crazy for shoes. Every day, every week, I go out and get the next cool pair of kicks."

JESSE MCCARTNEY'S PET PEEVE ABOUT WOMEN'S FASHION:
"The thing I don't like about when girls dress up or when they're going out is when they look uncomfortable. It's not necessarily an item of clothing; it's just if they look uncomfortable or for some reason can't walk, it's just kind of awkward."

Missy Elliott at the Parklife Music Festival in Sydney, Australia.
Photo: Getty Images

Missy Elliott is a huge sneakerhead. Every time she performs, she wears a pair of Adidas sneakers and matches them with her outfit perfectly. But when Missy Elliott took the stage at the Parklife Music and Arts Festival in Sydney, Australia, yesterday, she took it one step further and revealed her sneaker love on a new piece of her wardrobe — her jacket! Her black leather jacket featured a rhinestone bedazzled red-and-white sneaker on it. The thought of bedazzling jackets really isn't fashion-forward, but somehow Missy Elliott makes it look kinda good.

LOOK AT HOW HE FLIES!
Photo: Tokio Hotel Canada

Bill Kaulitz is usually the first Kaulitz that comes to mind when we think Tokio Hotel fashion. (Did you see his leather lace-up Dsquared2 pants?!) But he's not the only Kaulitz who loves fashionable things — his twin brother Tom Kaulitz scored a modeling gig! Reebok signed the 20-year-old Tokio Hotel guitarist/sneakerhead to model shoes for the company as part of a promotion (for people who log on to Reebok.com in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, they can enter to win a contest to join Tom on tour). In several interviews about his new endeavor, Tom mentioned how insane his obsession has become. "At home, I created a little room like a little storage room," he said of his sneakers. He also said that he gets 10 new pairs a week. That's 520 sneakers a year. Can you imagine?! We only dream of owning that many shoes.

+ Do you like the way Tom shows off his kicks? Think he took any modeling pointers from his twin brother Bill, who modeled for Dsquared2? Tell us in the comments!
