By now, you've all seen what Rihanna wore to the CFDA Awards earlier this week. Y'know, that sparkly dress that would DEF get censored by Instagram? The rhinestone-studded gown was nothing short of a work of art. And like all works of art, it takes a lot of time and dedication to reach the final product. In the case of Rih's dress, that dedication looks something like an entire team of people gluing microscopic crystals onto fabric with tweezers.
Adam Selman, Rihanna's costume designer and collaborator, posted a video to Instagram of that process, writing: "Detail of my incredible team at work with @official_swarovski and @rupaulsdragrace led by the true queen @meetingsmagazine #glamazon." Glamazon, indeed! We kind of can't stop watching this mesmerizing video on repeat, even though the tediousness threatens to make our brains explode. Ah, what we do in the name of #FASHUN.
Pharrell's custom crystal shoes.

If you're anything like me, your Saturday-night footwear is limited to, like, boots or slippers. Pharrell, it is clear, is not anything like me. I mean, he performed on Saturday Night Live last night in these bad boys. What are they, you ask? Oh, just a pair of customized Swarovski crystal Stan Smith sneakers, NBD. Looks like partnering with Adidas has its perks, eh?
Pharrell performing on 'Saturday Night Live.'
Flanked by a group of string musicians, Skateboard P performed "Marilyn Monroe" wearing the shoes, a black three-stripe jacket, and his green Vivienne Westwood Buffalo hat. Will the shoes become a full-time piece of P's look, like the jacket and the hat? Will he be able to get anything he wants customized with crystals from now on? These shoes raise a lot of questions.
A Bonnie McKee performance outfit by The Blonds.

You may not know the name Bonnie McKee, but you undoubtedly know songs that she's written for the likes of Katy Perry, Ke$ha, and Britney Spears. The song credits on her Wikipedia page read like a list of the best pop songs ever. This summer, Bonnie released her own track, "American Girl," and today, she released a video for her new single, "Sleepwalker." Bonnie was scheduled to head on tour with the Jonas Brothers, but as we all know, they scrapped the tour and crushed our perfect eyebrow-filled dreams.
A still from 'Romeo & Juliet.'
FYI: Romeo & Juliet comes out tomorrow (SQUEE!)—and we canNOT wait to see Douglas Booth run around in a pair of velvet jodhpurs, y’all. Of course, we’re ALSO really excited about seeing our ultimate teen style crush, Hailee Steinfeld, shine bright like a diamond in a bunch of ornately embellished Elizabethan gowns. No, really. She'll actually be covered in a bunch of Swarovski crystals, thanks to the backing of the bling giant’s new film division. This will be Swarovski Entertainment Ltd’s first feature film (cue "Started From the Bottom," but like, lol, not really), and they're spilling the deets on Romeo & Juliet’s unique costume design BEFORE we see the threads in action tomorrow on the big screen. (SQUEE x2!)
Carrie Underwood at the CMT Music Awards in Nashville on June 5.

Sure, the CMT Music Awards may officially be over, but we STILL can't stop talking about all the ensembles we saw on the red carpet and stage tonight! Oddly enough, two of our favorite looks of the evening came from just one lady--Ms. Carrie Underwood. She stepped out on the red, er, purple carpet in a fresh mint EDITION by Georges Chakra partially-sheer sequin jacket with matching shorts, a Swarovski clutch and silver peep toe pumps. She finished the look with her signature blonde waves, super lush lashes, a touch of silver eyeshadow, and a swipe of high-shine lip gloss. We're kiiind of obsessed with this outfit because the whole matching co-ordinates thing is super on trend right now, and we could totally see ourselves sporting this comfy-yet-glam ensemble IRL.
Selena Gomez's "Stars Dance" album art.
Photo: Hollywood Records
Last night, Selena Gomez held a live chat with her Selenators. On top of giving her fans some major interweb face time, Sel took the time to catch everyone up on the films she's been working on, field fan questions from Twitter, and spill deets about her forthcoming studio album, Stars Dance. Gomez discussed recording time, working with Rock Mafia, ran through the full track listing, AND unveiled the never-before-seen album art! In a stark contrast to her vibrant "Come & Get It" single artwork, the Stars Dance cover is rendered in grayscale with Sel trading in that scream face for a more subdued gaze. One thing is the same, though: Selena is massively accessorized and dripping with non-traditional garment materials.
Lana Del Rey at last night's Golden Globes after party and in L.A. this weekend.

Considering the singer's original billing as a "gangster Nancy Sinatra" and throughout her subsequent incarnations (rock 'n roll, old school glamazon, sultry chanteuse...you get it) Lana Del Rey has seen more than her fair share of style transformations these past few months. She's switched up her hair, flaunted a gold tooth, and most recently grinned in long underwear on the cover of Rolling Stone Mexico. But when LDR debuted yet another new look this weekend, it still threw us for a loop! We're used to seeing Lana channel other decades in her fashion choices, but nothing quite so specifically '80s until now. The singer hit a pre-Golden Globe Awards party on Friday wearing a tan overcoat and copper-colored dress, both by London designer IZMAYLOVA. Accessorized with classic white Pedro Garcia pumps and a David Swarovski clutch, the neutral ensemble is undeniably retro, don't you think? The prim and proper vibe is a far cry from the '70s bohemian she's been channeling, but turns out the star is sticking with her latest look...for now, anyway, since she continued this secretary-chic streak throughout the weekend.
Zoe Saldana, Pharrell Williams and Mary Kate Olsen at the CFDA awards.
Sometimes the fashion world can seem intimidating and stuffy, but then events like the Met Gala or last night's CFDA awards ceremony pop up and the world that was one intimidating gets to bust out all of its creative, gutsy excitement for the world to see. A designer, a blogger, and a model singing and dancing to "Call Me Maybe" while getting ready? Check. A host decked out in a lace dress and boxer shorts? Check. Some of our favorite celebs wearing GORGEOUS couture? Check, check, check, check. While there were a TON of outfits that struck our fancy on last night's red carpet, there were a few that stuck out in particular. Zoe Saldana wore one of the more striking looks of the night, although it was also one of the most simple. Prabal Gurung dressed the actress in a jet black, carpet-sweeping illusion gown, with figure accentuating sheer panels, long sleeves, and a slit to there. The look was gorgeous paired with a strong kohl eye, nude lips, and tightly pulled-back hair. Pharrell Williams also managed to make black look risky in...dare we say it...a shorts tux. The modernized tux, which also featured a giant bow tie and a beanie, was designed by Comme Des Garçons and revealed the music and fashion mogul's calf tattoo. It's a fresh take on a timeless look that some say needs no updating, but we say go for it Pharrell, what's the point of being in fashion if you're too afraid to take a risk every once in awhile. Also, we need to add that this is not 100% uncharted territory: Joe Jonas wore a giant bow tie to last year's CFDA's. Just sayin'. Ok, ok, we know it's summer and that we need to move on from all the winter-colored outfits, but we couldn't leave out Mary Kate Olsen in The Row, especially since the talented twin and her sister took home the award for Women's Wear Designer of the Year, considered the biggest achievement of the night. Mary Kate joined the winners circle with a new 'do, showing up to the show with brand new brunette locks. The color makes MK's blue eyes pop, an effect that she accentuated with a pair of oversized emerald green drop earrings.
Nikki Reed, Kristen Stewart, Crystal Reed, and Christina Ricci at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards in L.A. on June 3.

We don't wanna be all, "We called the metallic trend!" but we totally called the metallic trend. Nikki Reed, Kristen Stewart, Crystal Reed, and Christina Ricci shined on the MTV Movie Awards red carpet in summery AND shimmery ensembles. Nikki Reed looked like a golden goddess in her beaded Randi Rahm shift dress. She paired her short-sleeved stunner with a leopard print clutch and gold peep-toe heels, while keeping her makeup soft and sultry. K Stew KILLED it in a bold yellow, metallic gray and purple Guishem frock, pointy black Christian Louboutin pumps, and a Repossi triple band cage ring. She let her chestnut waves run wild (YUS) and finished her look with a seriously smokey eye and nude lips.
We literally high-fived in the MTV Style office when we found out that Teen Vogue's May cover girl was Katy Perry. We think she's the perfect gal to grace the pages of a young, fash-forward mag because she's always taking fun style risks while keeping her confidence in check. In one of our favorite images from the spread (seriously, this could be an ad campaign!), Katy channels her inner vintage vixen in a black and white polka dot Oscar de la Renta dress and black heels. She also sported a birdcage Victoria Grant headpiece over her twisted back bright blue 'do (which matches her nails!) for a throwback feel we're seriously loving. Katy's modern-meets-pinup style is definitely reflected in her fashion icons. She told Teen Vogue, "I love Agyness Deyn, Chloë Sevigny, Daphne Guinness, Natalie Wood, Judy Jetson, and Wonder Woman." She continued, "I'm still doing the pinup thing, but now when I do it, I want to be the pinup of the future, like Rachael in Blade Runner. But I've always been quirky—it probably started when I was nine years old, and my father used to wake me up at seven every Saturday morning to take me to garage sales. I couldn't afford the clothes that the other girls at school were wearing, so instead I looked for things that were unique to me." Ahhh, now it's all starting to make sense!
