Style has moved! come with us to mtv news »

Much to the dismay of naysayers/trend forecasters everywhere, nail art ain't goin' nowhere, y'all. In fact, I'm happy to report that it's alive and well and majorly #THRIVING on the Fall 2014 runways at New York Fashion Week. Nail artists pulled out all the stops this season with a brand new class of innovative designs, patterns, textures, and shapes. If you're still struggling to paint both hands without going through an entire bag of cotton balls and polish remover (no shade), you might want to take some notes. Unless you're into the finger-dipped trend, in which case, carry on. Check out our picks for the most creative nail art designs from New York Fashion Week after the jump!

Here we have a small sampling of the nail art The Blonds sent down the runway for their Fall 2014 show. Welp, that'll do it, ladies and gentlemen. I think we can all go home now. They won nails. Congrats, CND. I don't even know how to describe half of these, because they are SO insanely detailed. Also because there are SO many. Like, there's at least fifteen in plain view. And that's not even counting those pink pointy suckers (which would no doubt get flagged as weapons by the T.S.A.). Just when we thought it couldn't get more diverse than last season's show, The Blonds went and outdid themselves. Literally.

Cushnie et Ochs called in their BFF manicurist, Pattie Yankee, for this stiletto-tipped, iridescent, oil-slick paint job that created a holographic illusion in certain kinds of light. HOLOGRAPHS, people. On fingernails. What's next? A life-size projection of a shirtless 2Pac performing the show's soundtrack? (Hey, it could happen.)

Yeah, yeah, we know New York Fashion Week is officially over, but we needed a FULL weekend of recovery before we dove in and picked out the top nail art looks from all the shows—and it also happens to be Manicure Monday. (How perfect!) We have to admit, though, that this year we definitely saw designs of a whole different variety. Sure, we peeped some straight-up half moon manis (Peter Som!) and glitter gradients (Nicole Miller!), but overall we were incredibly impressed with how much designers were willing to experiment with their tips. From mechanical 3D nails to purposely-imperfect manis, we found 10 shows that totally took nail art to the next level. Check 'em out below!

OK, this image alone speaks volumes about the diversity of nail designs The Blonds had in just ONE NYFW show. Their Tweety Bird-inspired collection certainly included some on-theme bright yellow designs, but they also incorporated clear acrylics and—get this—a mechanical accent nail that came with a clear hinged door (top right). UH HUH, you can thank CND for that lovely creation.

Ahhh, New York Fashion Week. We're so close to the end. From Rebecca Minkoff to Marc by Marc, we've loved every minute of you, but we think the honeymoon period this season is juuuust about over and it's getting to that point in our relationship when things get a little difficult. It's totally fine and normal and expected with every relationship, and rest assured, we'll be giddy with excitement come your return in September, but for now, we've rounded up a few of the most difficult (difficult for mobility, difficult to fathom, difficult to see yourself realistically wearing, etc.) outfits from your offerings this week in honor of these turbulent times.

Thom Browne, Chromat

This gray-blue patchwork coat number from Thom Browne and this rectangular white cage by Chromat (the same line behind Beyonce's Super Bowl backup dancers' outfits!!) are pretty equal in their spatial difficulty. For the record, we here at MTV Style LOVE both of these labels, but these particular pieces give us more "art piece" vibes than "ready to wear." Both have strong shoulders exaggerated to the point of turning the entire garment into a polygon. The Thom Browne is probably more difficult to get through certain doorways (wider, less pliable through its width), the Chromat we imagine as difficult to sit in comfortably.

Happy Inauguration Day, America! If you're anything like us, you just watched President Barack Obama's inauguration ceremony unfold in the heart of Washington D.C. with dramatic and star-studded performances from James Taylor, Kelly Clarkson and Beyonce. And while that was all happening, you couldn't help but stare at Sasha, Malia and Michelle Obama, admiring the impeccably dressed and color-coordinated Obama ladies and wondering where you might be able to cop such stately togs for yourself. Well, we have good news: we've started to identify the cool color palette coat ensembles worn by the fashionable first family!

Emma Stone Andrew Garfield Teen Vogue

Dawwww! We can't stop smiling ever since we laid eyes on the August 2012 issue of Teen Vogue because the cutest couple of the year, Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield, flash their fashion-y selves all over the pages of the mag. This isn't the first summer cover for The Amazing Spider-Man stars—just last week Andrew was unveiled on the Nylon Guys cover and Emma made her glorious debut on Vogue's July issue. (Also, remember back in May when we deemed this the "summer of Andrew Garfield?" Well, so far our theory is still going EXTREMELY strong, and it's only June!) For their Teen Vogue spread, the 'dorbs couple exuded utter cuteness looking their Sunday best in matching black hats. Emma wears an orange Mulberry dress, black lace Calvin Klein socks, and white Acne boots, while Andrew sports a midnight blue Carven jacket, shirt and pants ensemble.

Leighton Meester in 'Seventeen' magazine's February 2011 issue.

It's no secret that Gossip Girl Leighton Meester loves clothes (on and off screen). So when The Seven sat down to interview the Florida native on the set of her Seventeen magazine February cover shoot (side note: Don't you just love the Versus Spring 2011 looks she's sporting in the magazine?), we weren't surprised when the convo turned to fashion.

"I couldn't always afford to have that all the time, so now it's nice—I can try different things. I like to experiment," said Leighton. Oh, and experiment does she! Remember the mens-inspired Thom Browne suit she wore with Salvatore Ferragamo heels to the Gotham Independent Film Awards in November? And the Marchesa butt-baring lace romper she wore to the Harry Winston Court of Jewels event the same month? Check out the video below for more on Leighton's fearless sense of fashion.

AnnaLynne McCord, Leighton Meester, and Halle Berry are just some of the actresses who’ve recently brought the power suit trend from the 1980s back in a very modern and sexy way. By choosing well-tailored cuts, festive fabrics, and girly footwear, these ladies prove that sporting a menswear look can be just as flirty and feminine as a cocktail dress.

ANNALYNNE MCCORD: We love how structured AnnaLynne McCord’s look was for the People’s Choice Awards press conference on Nov. 9 in West Hollywood. Her gray tailored trousers pair perfectly with her poufy-sleeved shirt. The blue tie, crimson belt buckle, and red pumps add fun flashes of color to her otherwise neutral ensemble.

LEIGHTON MEESTER: For the Gotham Independent Film Awards, Leighton Meester opted for a traditional menswear look, choosing a black Thom Browne suit, which she wore with a classic white shirt and a loosely knotted tie. But the Gossip Girl actress kept it girly with Salvatore Ferragamo heels.

HALLE BERRY: Halle Berry opted for a Balmain suit from the label’s Fall 2010 collection when she attended the Frankie and Alice premiere in Los Angeles. The actress let her jacquard suit shine by choosing a simple black blouse and pumps.

JESSICA ALBA: Jessica Alba skipped the shirt underneath when she wore a black Dolce & Gabbana suit, which she teamed with studded Christian Louboutin pumps to the Footwear News Achievement Awards in New York City last month.

WINONA RYDER: Winona Ryder also went for head-to-toe black in a Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci suit, which she paired with a stain clutch and a dramatic silver necklace.

HALLE BERRY (PART 2): Halle Berry attended The Hollywood Reporter’s Annual Power 100 event celebrating women in entertainment in a pinstripe Dolce & Gabbana suit. She finished the look with a Gucci halter in neutral tones and a leopard print Jimmy Choo "Mandah" bag.

ANNALYNNE MCCORD (PART 2): AnnaLynne McCord looked white hot at the Spike TV awards in Los Angeles, where she showed up in a loose boyfriend blazer and flared pants. The actress spiced up her all-white look with a leopard print clutch, plus the same red pumps from her earlier menswear look.

JESSICA STROUP:The menswear-inspired jumpsuit that Jessica Stroup wore to Charity Ball in New York earlier this month looked elegant with pleating and a plunging neckline. She kept it clean with black satin pumps. So pretty!

+ Which star had the sexiest suit?

OK, so technically she's not a guy (we typically reserve this post for dapper dudes). But when Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester arrived at the Gotham Independent Film Awards last night, she really put the boys to shame on the red carpet! Leighton wore a chic fitted dark gray Thom Browne suit with a loosely knotted tie and Salvatore Ferragamo pumps. She kept accessories to a minimum (just tiny earrings and a ring or two), but sexed up her look with a textbook smoky eye. We love how Leighton's laid-back attitude kept her suit from feeling too stuffy and proper, but what do you think?
