Zooey Deschanel, Tommy Hilfiger

Zooey Deschanel has always been a bit prim and proper in her own adorkable way, so it’s pretty perfect that the actress/singer/nail-art extraordinaire has teamed up with Tommy Hilfiger on a capsule collection called "To Tommy, From Zooey," naturally. Zooey’s designs are exactly what we’d expect and want from her: hyper-femme pieces with a vintage flare that'd work as well for a concert as they would at family brunch. Oh yeah, and if yacht clubs are your stomping ground, you’re going to love this even more.

Kiernan Shipka

Kiernan Shipka for 'Vanity Fair.'
Photo: Vanity Fair

I will never NOT be surprised that Kiernan Shipka is only 14 years old. Maybe it's because she fits in so well with the 1960s setting of Mad Men. But more likely, it's because her personal style is already more mature and high-fashion than most adults in the entertainment industry. She always (ALWAYS) kills it on the red carpet, and now, in this month's issue of Vanity Fair, she brings that same glamorous flair to a retro-themed photo spotlight. She even showed up to the interview looking flawless—a vintage Céline sweater, drop-waist Rag & Bone skirt, black ankle boots, and pink Miu Miu purse. Like...what??? I guess Kiernan is the one girl in the history of the world who hasn't had to go through an awkward preteen phase #blessed.

Shailene Woodley

There are still four more tortuous days until Divergent hits theaters, but we're becoming increasingly confident that Shailene Woodley is going to totally nail the role of Tris. The latest evidence comes in the form of her new Marie Claire interview, in which she talks openly and confidently about herself AND models some bold, hard-to-pull-off clothes. On the cover, Shailene wears Tommy Hilfiger pants and a swimsuit with cutouts and zippers, and honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if she decided to swim in the Olympics in this and then won. #sportyspice

If you haven't been following along with VH1's four-part roll out of Steve Stoute's The Tanning of America documentary, that's OK. The whole thing is streaming online now, so you can catch up. If you're not familiar with the premise of the doc or with Stoute's 2011 book of the same name, the mini-series aims to show hip-hop's evolution from infancy to its current mammoth cultural footprint, illuminating watershed moments in film, business, politics, and (our favorite) fashion along the way with commentary from prominent minds and voices like Rick Rubin, Russell Simmons, Diddy, Nas, and Mariah Carey.

The episodes span from the introduction of racial issues and themes on American television in the '70s (by way of shows like All in the Family and The Jeffersons) all the way to present day. The first episode boasts priceless footage of a young Rubin (sans beard!) fresh off of founding Def Jam Records with Russell Simmons as well as throwback clips of Run DMC in the studio, recording their version of "Walk This Way."

The tracksuit and dookie-chain-wearing trio from Queens is also responsible for the very first hip-hop fashion collaboration: Adidas' $1.5 million endorsement deal of Run DMC, thanks in large part to the group's influence in reviving the three-stripe Adidas shell toes.

It sounds like BS to say someone's primary defining quality is their je ne sais quoi, but for Aaliyah, it was actually true. Her ability to look stunning in anything—mostly tomboyish baggy jeans and a crop top—wasn't necessarily just about her sinewy, athletic body or her angelic face. It was about the look she gave you, that sense that you never knew what was truly going down beneath her cat-eyed gaze. It was all tied into the music, obviously—the way she and her team of Timbaland, Static Major, Missy and them wrote the songs was like they were letting you in on a secret—and, moreso, her wispy voice feeding into her essential unknowability.

Beyond that, of course, the Brooklyn-born, Detroit-raised Aaliyah Dana Houghton was the epitome of LOOKING BKLYN FLY. She still is, to be sure—look on Opening Ceremony's website, or on Tumblr, or on cool current musical women, from the underground (DJ Venus X, rapper Junglepussy) up to the mainstream (hello, Rihanna and Ciara), to see how her look endures. Most people associate her look with Tommy Jeans ads and her "One In A Million" videos—the diamondique bra top and baggy jeans of the title track, in particular, as well as the trenchcoat and pirate du-rag of "4 Page Letter." This shot, taken at Summer Jam in 1997, was one example of that iconic zone: those omnipresent sunglasses (which, along with various eyepatches, led to a weird and unfounded rumor that she had a lazy eye), an athletic-inspired croptop, and what appear to be breakaway pants, all sexified with simple silver jewelry and heaps of attitude.

A$AP Rocky

Everyone give up a slow clap for A$AP Rocky wearing old school Tommy Hilfiger on stage for the Wantagh, New York stop of his and Wiz Khalifa's Under The Influence Of Music tour. The fashion killa has made a name for himself as such by regularly sporting the flyest, most current threads like custom KTZ, Raf Simons, and Ann Demeulemeester just to name a few. For his run on Rihanna's Diamonds World Tour, he wore Hood By Air high-end streetwear hot off the runway on stage in almost every city (BTW, we hear you can win a free, Rocky-signed HBA shirt from VFiles *WINK*). But now, it looks like he's turning to the archives for performance togs, pulling out and repping Hilfiger's iconic rectangular blocked logo.

While the mysterious deaths surrounding Beacon Hills still remained unsolved, there is one thing we do know for sure--there's a WHOLE lotta twin action happening on Teen Wolf as of late, and we like it. Sure, Aiden and Ethan are kind of, well, scary, but when they are roam the halls with all their other high school classmates, we can't help but notice their standout style. In tonight's episode, we got to peep two types of twinsie looks, the first being their simply badass classroom-ready ensembles.

Nicki Minaj

Photo: Getty Images

We've said it before and we'll say it again: we are so into Nicki Minaj's new look. Gone are the days of loud neon prints and so-bright-it-could-blind-you wigs. The reigning queen of Young Money recently took a turn for the real, opting for a more "relatable look" that's both dressed down and cleaned up. Nicki kept her new look on lock when she walked the red carpet tonight at the Met Gala in a sleek navy blue Tommy Hilfiger gown. Baring some side ab with an on-trend cut out design, the "High School" hip hop star added dark red lips and matching nails to off-set her fierce platinum blonde—and VERY punk—hair. Part '70s style afro, part '80s crimped curls, Nicki paid homage to the gala theme with her 'do more than her dress. We're feeling the texture almost as much as we're digging those deep dark roots. Colorists are for clowns; give dem punks a bottle of bleach and a few months of grow out and you're ready to rage.

The 2012 BBMAs drew out some of the music industry's most stylish celebs, but a few shone brighter than the rest. From Miley Cyrus to The Wanted, these are MTV Style's top looks of the night!

TAYLOR SWIFT IN ELIE SAAB

Straying from her go-to gold, Taylor Swift looked stunning in a bright red gown by Elie Saab. The symmetrical strappiness of the bodice provides a bit of edge which is balanced by the girlish lace insets. The racy sheerness of the lace is also off-set by the conservative neckline and the floor-length solid skirt. Tay finishes it off with short, dark nails, blunt bangs, and a touch of smokey red-brown eye makeup.

Lily Collins was certainly the fairest of them all in her nude and azure blue lace brocade Monique Lhuiller gown. The Mirror Mirror star oozed elegance with a soft swept-back updo, statement brows, long lashes, and a light pink lip. She sported minimal accessories and let the dress do all the talking.

I love these two as a couple. What a festive way to celebrate two important events in their life. Mariah looks like a dream.
