Wow. In case you hadn't heard, Usher is going to perform at the 2014 VMAs. We've been thinking about Usher a lot lately, anyway. First of all, there's the "Good Kisser" remix by Disclosure. There's also the collab between Usher, Pharrell, and Nicki Minaj ("She Came to Give It To You") that already seems to be a floor burner. (Seriously, it's so catchy). But the one thing we really can't get out of our minds? That hat Usher keeps wearing.

He's been taking a page out of the Pharrell playbook by resurfacing vintage headgear. And while Ush may have had his raccoon cap since February, he’s been getting some serious mileage out of it. He’s been spotted in the cap while doing press to promote season six of The Voice, during a late night appearance with Jimmy Fallon, and, most recently, at the BET Awards. Where Usher goes, the hat goes. But does that mean it'll make the trip to Inglewood in August?

By now, you've probably heard the news. But if you're like "Huh? News? What?," allow me to make your day: 5 Seconds of Summer is performing at the 2014 Video Music Awards! It's a REALLY BIG DEAL (!!!) that warrants all caps and many exclamation points because it'll be the boy band's biggest-ever televised performance in the U.S., which means they're going to be an even more major deal than they already are. Which means this performance is very important. Which means what they wear onstage for said performance is, like, make-or-break important.
Fortunately, the four dudes from Australia have their performance style on lock. For the uninitiated, here's a style primer. If you're an expert in 5SOS, or just someone who stares at pictures of them periodically, you know that they're into repping other bands while performing. Big time. They've created something of a roll call of all their musical inspirations and we're here to pay homage to their T-shirt collection. Check out our faves below!
Cool tee, cooler face, coolest hair.
We've been taking the month of December to pour over the best, biggest, and most '90s fashion moments of 2013. Should old acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind? NO. Hence all the reminders. But a fresh start never hurt anyone. As we bring 2013 to a close, we've enlisted our old friend Jarvis Derrell of #shehashadit to help punt the past 365 days clear into tomorrow. Kweens, may we present to you: #2013hashadit.

Miley Cyrus' Lil Kim Halloween costume.

We should've known yesterday when we saw the purple wig that there was only one costume Miley Cyrus was considering for Halloween. An opportunity to wear a pasty AND a onesie? Those are two of Miley's fave things: Lil Kim's infamous outfit at the 1999 VMAs gives her a chance to wear both, at the same time.
This isn't the first time Miles' has dressed up as a famous female rapper for Halloween: last year she broke out a leopard print onesie (I'm sensing a trend), a bright yellow wig, and a collection of gold chains for her Nicki Minaj costume.
It’s not easy being Lady Gaga. First of all: the hair. There’s a lot of it. Can you even imagine the size of the suitcase required to travel with all of her wigs? Long, short, black, yellow, bobbed, Boticelli—those things must take up a TON of space. Second of all: The shoes. There’s a lot of those suckers, too, and they’re not like, pin-thin flip-flops you can toss in your purse on-the-go. They're typically tall, thick-heeled and embellished—not for the faint of height OR heart (#spikes). And then there’s the outfits, which basically have lives of their own and can speak for themselves, as far as I’m concerned.
On any given day, Gagaloo switches up her clothing/wigs/shoes, like, a BAJILLION times—so it’s no surprise that she wore FOUR different outfits over the course of her 5-minute opening performance at this year's VMAs. SANS MALFUNCTIONS. We were impressed, to say the least. SO impressed, in fact, that we decided to recreate each look from her "Applause"-inspired performance for your Halloween enjoyment. Pick one costume for yourself or snag 3 friends and make it a group thaaang. Then, you only have to learn like, 25% of the choreography, which you can totally do if you practice real hard starting NOW.
Warning: This costume is not for the spill-prone.

I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that, by now, 80% of America has to have seen (or at least heard about) Miley Cyrus' performance at last night's 2013 VMAs. The kick-off of a three-song medley—her own single, "We Can't Stop," plus Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" and "Give It 2 U" featuring 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar—Miley started things off with a bang in a silver bear-faced leotard accompanied by an actually pretty clever a**-glorifying intro medley of what appear to be interpolations of Juvenile's "Back That Azz Up" and Big Sean's "A$$," if you were paying close enough attention, leading into her smash single. Giant teddy backpacks and dancers dressed as bears supported Miley's tongue-and-twerk-tastic solo performance, her first time ever on the VMA stage. And then the Robin Thicke portion started.
Sure, the 2013 VMAs may be over, but we still can't stop talking about those nails! In case you missed it, we had a STELLAR spot on the red carpet *brushes shoulders off* where we could shoot some of our favorite celeb's manis up close. While some ladies went for a super simple design (like our MTV.com red carpet host Rachel Antonoff!), others went BALLS. OUT. with some seriously decked-out tips. We have a total soft spot for girls that take their nail game to the next level, so we picked our 5 favorite designs to share with y'all! FYI: Be sure to peep the poll at the end of the post, so you can see the winning design recreated in a step-by-step tutorial right here on MTV Style. Pretty cool, eh?

Our first favorite mani comes from Ms. Rita Ora. She sported seriously chic nude stiletto tips with just a hint of rhinestones on the pointer and ring finger to match her all-crystal-everything Alexandre Vauthier gown. *picks jaw up off floor*
We definitely expected our style correspondents, Grimes and Rachel Antonoff, to be thorough in their red carpet interviews. By thorough, we were imagining things like: head-to-toe run-downs, designers, fabrics, inspiration, pre-carpet getting ready rituals, etc. You know the drill. #FASHUN But when the girls hooked up with Travi$ Scott, they took thorough to a whoooole new level.

You know, only Rihanna could roll up to the 2013 VMAs in a T-shirt and jeans and still totally kill it in the style department. RiRi skipped the red carpet (sadface times a million!), but when we spotted her inside the Barclays Center, she looked as cute as ever in her casual-cool ensemble. She sported a distressed MC Lyte graphic tee with super dark cuffed jeans, black stilettos, a decked OUT diamond choker, diamond studs, massive bauble rings, and tons of stacked bracelets. Our favorite accessory of all, though, definitely had to be the teeny cross-shaped grill she wore between her two front teeth. I mean, between the gold gun mouthpiece she sported earlier this month and the diamond grill from July, it's safe to assume that this girl is growing QUITE the collection.
