Ariana and Miley get in the holiday spirit for Jingle Ball in Minnesota.

Deck the halls with crop tops and high-cut leotards, y'all. Minnesota's Jingle Ball happened in St. Paul last night, and BOY, did things get festive. Now I like an ugly Christmas sweater just as much as the next person, but Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus took holiday cheer to a whole new level with their uber-yuletide outfits. And, as you might expect, one of them was naughty and the other was nice. (Although we're sure Santa appreciates the sentiment, regardless.)

If we've learned anything about Miley Cyrus this year, it's that she probably owns more high-cut bikini bottoms than anyone in the free world. We've also learned that if it weren't for New York Fashion Week, there's a chance she could have been single-handedly credited with reviving the sartorial styles of the 1990s. And even though crop tops first started cropping up (heh) on runways back in October 2012, Miley was definitely one of the trend's earliest AND most enthusiastic supporters (like that time she wore four in 24 hours this summer). You might even say that her newfound personal style was, and is, miles (heh) ahead of the curve.
Fashion in the '90s was primarily characterized by a kind of laid-back minimalism. (Not pantsless minimalism, per se—but maybe that's Miley's modern twist?) Leaving the neon spandex, leg warmers, and bulky shoulder pads of the '80s behind, the following decade was heavily influenced by Seattle's grunge-rock scene (tartan flannel, overalls, Doc Martens) and hip-hop streetwear (labels, a ton of flashy bling). Comfort was key, but even more important was the ability to have your style convey a sense of rebellion and anti-establishment. And that's exactly what Cyrus claims to stand for. "It's almost punk rock to like me because it's not the right thing to do," she told Cosmopolitan. "Like, society wants to shut me down."
So, to celebrate Miley's BIGGEST and most stylish year to date (sorry, Hannah Montana fans), we've laid out the many ways that her evolving look has paid tribute to the decade in which she was born. In the words of 2 Unlimited, frozen in time by Jock Jams and Space Jam, "Y'all ready for this?" (DUN NUH NUH!)

Welp, it's official: Miley Cyrus is a magician. How else could you explain her overnight hair transformation? On Friday, Miley performed at KIIS FM's Jingle Ball in L.A., where her pixie cut was softly combed over, revealing a shaved side. Business as usual, basically. Then suddenly, without warning, Cyrus showed up to an event on Saturday sporting a classic blunt bob with baby bangs. Now, we all know that in recent months, Miley's been vocal about wanting to grow her hair back out—but adding inches within hours? That's straight-up sorcery.
Selfies were errywhere this year. Oxford Dictionaries named selfie the word of 2013, which, based on celebrity Instagram accounts, makes total sense. Celebs love taking selfies and we, as bloggers and breathing humans, love looking at said selfies. We've come to rely on them to tell us what our faves are wearing, where they are, and who they're hanging with. It isn't until you look through every Instagram of Rihanna's from the past year that you truly appreciate just how much the badgal loves sharing her face/her new hair color/her products with the rest of the world. But Ri's not the only one doing it. We've rounded up our favorite selfies from the past year so you can peep 'em and refer back when taking GPOYs of your own. Enjoy!
NICKI MINAJ: MOST SELFIES NOT FOCUSED ON HER FACE
Nicki Minaj shares her selfies with two special guests.
For most people, selfies are all about the face. Obviously, Nicki Minaj is not like most people. Her selfies tend to draw attention to the two assets that sit below eye level and could easily stay out of frame. Nicki got bolder about baring as the year went on. While she began 2013 with some heavy cleavage, by the end she was straight-up giving us full-frontal pasties. Her Halloween costume, in case you couldn't tell, was a police officer. It's been a while since we've gotten any Instagrams from her Minajesty, so we're hoping she's planning to make up for lost time in 2014.
I've gotta get something off my chest: I was a little scandalized by Miley Cyrus' Chicago Bulls ensemble for Mike Will Made It's "23" music video. No, not because she was basically wearing underwear with high heels or a pair of bike shorts with a trompe l'oeil thong. Not even because of that microscopic Chanel bag! (But while we're on it, WTF can even fit in there??) Nope. Miles got me with that chopped and screwed Michael Jordan #23 jersey. I get goosebumps picturing a pair of scissors hitting that mesh. Does she know what she's doing?! I mean, what would MJ say??

YASSS! Our prayers have finally been answered (and then some). We've been touting the genius of Yolo Polos ever since they first started stitching hip-hop memes on shirts, waaay back in August. After they paid tribute to Dada Drake (#DADALEAN), we put in a humble request for a Wheelchair Jimmy version. In September, we got an extended color palette, Jay Z's Dad Dive (#AWKWARDDIVE) and Miguel's Billboard Leg Drop—which, of course, we welcomed to the polo shirt fold with open arms. Sadly, Miguel's meme shirt was recently discontinued, but DRY YOUR EYES because the newly re-branded M.O.C. Brand now has FIVE new viral icons and one of them is—you guessed it—Wheelchair Jimmy. We're not sayin' we had anything to do with it, but... *flips hair*
Will.I.Am and Miley Cyrus in the video for "Feelin' Myself."

These days, seeing Miley Cyrus perform in the equivalent of underwear is pretty much the norm. She's shown us that, no matter the season, most occasions call for a high-cut, two-piece outfit and platform shoes. (Sidebar: she must save SO much storage and packing space without all those pesky pants to fold!) Naturally, her outfit in Will.I.Am's new joint for "Feelin' Myself" is no exception. Cyrus wears black latex separates, matching strappy heels and a gold chain belt to rap and shake her booty "like an expert" in the video, which also features appearances by French Montana and Wiz Khalifa. Oh, and that chain-link bomber she covers up with? Turns out, it didn't come from on-set wardrobe—it came from her very own closet.
When we realized that the 2013 American Music Awards would showcase a whopping 16 live performances, we knew we were in for a grip of exciting brand new performance outfits. What we forgot about (momentarily) was that the stacked set list ALSO meant the red carpet would be full of high-octane #FASHUN. The stars turned it our for the AMAs step-and-repeat, and we're breaking down our favorite looks of the night.

Taylor Swift may have skipped the stage this time around, but she still won big. No, not just by looking drop dead in that glittering gold Julien MacDonald minidress. T.Swizzle also took home the award for Artist of the Year as well as Favorite Female Country Artist and Favorite Country Album.

Oh hey, Miley's eyebrows. Welcome back. We thought we'd lost you there for a minute. PHEW. The return of Miley Cyrus' dark brows was the first thing that caught our eye when she took the stage to perform "Wrecking Ball" at tonight's American Music Awards. The SECOND thing we noticed, though, was that her outfit matched her HIGH-larious screen visual from head to ACTUAL toe. (Also, if matching is "happening," BRB I need to go change my socks.)
Miley Cyrus, her bleached eyebrows, and Miranda Kerr.

Do you guys notice something a little ~off~ in this picture? Is it that Miley Cyrus is resting what are probably red lipsticked lips on Miranda Kerr's white cut-out shoulder dress? Maybe you're asking yourself, "Why are Miranda and Miley hanging out in the first place?" Or maybe, just maybe, it's because MILEY CYRUS HAS NO EYEBROWS. THEY ARE GONE. ADIOS. SAYONARA. GOOD DAY.
Miley posted her new look to Instagram early this morning and, like, are her eyebrows even there? Did she shave them off entirely? In the photo with Miranda, you can see the outline of what was once a brow (RIP). The black-and-white filter isn't helping distinguish what is there and what isn't (we're onto you, Miley), but if you tilt your screen to different angles and/or squint, you can make out some very bleached eyebrows. They're still there, guys, PHEW: they're just so light they blend in with her skin color.
