Justin Bieber and Mariah Carey taping their Rockafeller Center tree-lighting performances.
If the holidays had a celebrity spokesperson, it would be Mariah Carey. The woman LOVES. CHRISTMAS. Like, we kind of think she has a secret wing of her house that's actually the North Pole, and she just hid it from us in that incredible episode of MTV Cribs where she keeps changing her outfit. Or maybe she has a magical Christmas wardrobe, Narnia-style, that transports you to Santa's workshop. Mariah can do anything. You know what, Mariah Carey is Santa Clause. How can we be so sure? Well forget for a second that "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is the single greatest Christmas song of all time. Forget that. Also forget how much Mariah likes to say "festive." You can discard all of that evidence and just LOOK AT HER OUTFIT for the Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting. Look at it long and hard and tell me your nose isn't filled with the scent of evergreen and gingerbread. The legendary diva was also joined onstage by Justin Bieber, who bundled up in a luxe military-inspired coat in textured leather with gold buttons and matching zippers. With two looks on the stage, however, Mariah really stole the show. To perform her aforementioned modern classic x-mas anthem, the singer wore a playful, structured red frock that we just can't get enough of. While the short frock might not be the most weather-appropriate, it's certainly, um, turning up the temperature with a plunging neckline and curve hugging skater silhouette in a shade so red it almost seems to vibrate. Throw in ornate silver beading and a pair of over-the-elbow gloves and Mariah is veritably ornament-like.
Mariah's second Christmas Tree Lighting Look.
Oh but do you think one Christmas look was enough for Mariah? While the other performers only got one look (we know this was supposed to be about Bieber too, yeah sorry not sorry about that, he looked cute though!), Our Lady of Festive got two, completing the classic winter duo of fire and ice. While she heated up the stage in her red ornament dress, she cooled things down with her second look: a form fitting, slinky silver number topped with a thick white fur stole. The dress, which is part neglige, part formal wear, features a jagged illusion hemline, intricate beading and another plunging neckline. In it, Mariah looks like the queen of the snowflakes. This brings us to the head-scratcher of this whole thing: armwear. Must one always incorporate arm-accessories into ones holiday costume? Those gloves are just the most, I mean, above-elbow-length? Don't try this at home kids (no really, don't). The fur wrap is a much more street-ready look, in faux or real, depending on how you feel about our animal friends. Are you thinking about what you're going to wear to your office/school/family holiday party yet?
The pre-taped segment, which airs tonight, November 28th at 8PM ET on NBC, also features a performance from Big Time Rush, but it's really Mariah and Justin's looks that got us into the holiday spirit. Might we be planning to snuggle up in front of our fire place (laptop playing a youtube video of a fire) with some hot cocoa in a hideous-amazing catmus sweater to watch the tree be lit? We'll neither confirm nor deny (hey we have to keep some boundaries, despite how much we love you guys), but we would NOT JUDGE anyone for doing just that.
What do you think of Mariah and Justin's Christmas performance looks?
