From wayyyyy back in the Middle Ages to Rayanne's grungy-glam wardrobe in My So Called Life to last season's catwalks, velvet has had one seriously long and varied history to say the least. But there's clearly a reason behind the fabric's staying power, and that's because it's so freaking wearable. Velvet is THE winter dressing secret weapon— it's practical because it's warm (duh), it's flattering, and it's festive without being over the top. If you've got some parties coming up on the agenda and want a holiday outfit that doesn't involve sequins, glitter, or snowmen, then look no further! Play fashion copycat with these stylish bloggers below...it's fine, we won't tell anyone.
Steffy Kuncman Of Steffy's Pros And Cons
Blog: steffysprosandcons.com. Twitter: @SteffysPsandC.
Steffy is a 25-year-old vintage store owner from Miami who's out to prove that velvet really does look good any time, any place. She might've worn her adorable Tea and Tulips black flared frock in the Florida heat bare-legged, but this outfit would look JUST as cute during the East Coast winter (with tights!). The dress's peekaboo white collar adds a touch of feminine prep to the fabric, and her vintage-inspired accessories inject some Annie Hall quirk to the overall look. Perfection!
Luna Nova of Lulu Tresors
This isn't the first time we've featured Luna Nova of Lulu Tresors on the blog. After all, the girl KNOWS how to dress, period. But whereas last time we were stalking her crop top-and-skirt ensemble, today we're especially in love with her vintage velvet tuxedo number. Although it may appear like your basic sleeveless minidress, the back is spliced with sheer insets and a pair of statement bows. The perfect-for-winter ensemble is a fresh new spin on party dressing, and one that we can't WAIT to replicate ourselves this weekend.
Laura Allard-Fleischl of Luna Supernova
Laura's getting back to velvet's roots in her dark red minidress. The New Zealander's a pro at mixing grunge-inspired separates on her blog, but she's really outdone herself in her luxe '90s-influenced ensemble. We're glad to see that she's rounded the beanie, studded dress, and black dress shoes with a studded animal-print topper from UNIF...because leopard's totally a neutral, right?
