Karlie Kloss hair

We've always known that our House of Style co-host has killer hair, but now it's official! In a story that ran this morning, The New York Times proclaimed Karlie Kloss to have THE haircut of the year, and who's going to argue with that? The supermodel surprised everyone when she debuted her new 'do backstage at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in November, trading her long locks for a swinging chop. But although it seemed like a spontaneous decision back then, turns out Karlie's cut was a long time coming. NYT reports that VOGUE had approached hairstylist Garren Defazio about doing a special style for an upcoming story, and he immediately knew that he wanted the 20-year-old to showcase his new shape. Inspired by '60s icons like Jane Birkin, the just-below-chin-length cut would let the model's damaged hair become healthy again AND give her a cool new edge. In an industry where long hair lends to a "blank canvas" look, Defazio says “I gave her a personality by cutting it.” Mission accomplished, don't you think?

AnnaSophia Robb haircut

AnnaSophia Robb this week; on set filming 'The Carrie Diaries.'

After months of stalking the on-set pics, tracking the retro costumes, and following the rising star of adorable actress AnnaSophia Robb, The Carrie Diaries FINALLY premiered last night on The CW. What'd you guys think? If you ask us, the show is a complete 1984 fashion whirlwind, filled with style shoutouts (Interview mag!), New York haunts (Indochine!) and even designer cameos (anyone else spy Waris Ahluwalia in the dinner scene?!). We can barely wait until next week's episode, but at least we've got PLENTY to talk about until then, like AnnaSophia's brand new haircut.

Beyonce Minx Nails

Sure, we love nail art, but when it comes to nail art on Beyonce, whew! It's a whole different ballgame, friends. Bey's go-to manicurist Lisa Logan (who has her own line at Minx and is someone you may remember from our prom nail art shoot back in 2011) created some custom tips for Beyonce's New Year's Eve performance in Las Vegas, and—OMG—they are uh-mazing. Bey posted a close-up pic of her digits last week, and Lisa says the designs were inspired by the late artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, who is known for his obscure graffiti pieces (and is also a favorite of both Beyonce and Jay-Z). The colorful decals varied by each finger (which we LOVE), and we think it complemented her rhinestone-encrusted black and white bustier and curly locks perfectly.

The Golden Globes are great. What's not to love about a laid back, boozy affair, but in fancy clothes? What could be better than that? We've already broken down some of the night's biggest trends, and told you our top looks, but what about the beauty?! The hair and makeup tended toward the natural this year, with a few retro hairdos thrown in the mix. Here are my favorite beauty looks of the night, in no particular order!

I loved this hair color on her, it really makes her eyes stand out. Kristen's smoky eye makeup was a breath of fresh air among all the natural faces.

Zooey Deschanel

It's no secret that we're die-hard nail art aficionados here at MTV Style, and given that Zooey Deschanel is one most active celebrities in the nail game, we were amped to see what she'd have in store for her 2013 Golden Globe Awards red carpet look. Zooey traipsed down the step-and-repeat in a glamorous Oscar de la Renta gown in bright red and fit for a princess. She styled the dress with a flirty evening ponytail and a strand of big ivory pearls, but it was the action happening above her cuticles that we were most excited to uncover. We maaaay or may not have had an office pool betting on what theme the New Girl actress would run with this evening.

Katy Perry Lea Michel Jennifer Lawrence

Could braids be the biggest hair trend of 2013? Of course they're nothing new, braids have shown up everywhere from the head of one Miss Pippi Longstocking to those of the highest high fashion models on the most couture of runways for seasons and seasons, but we've never seen them totally dominate a red carpet like this before. I mean, THREE of the biggest leading ladies in TV, music, and movies rocking plaited 'do's at the 2013 People's Choice Awards? That's a trend explosion if we've ever seen one. And in three totally different ways? Pinch us, we're in heaven. Between the looks on Glee's Lea Michele, Katy Perry, and Jennifer Lawrence, we have a lot of braiding tutorials to watch and time to spend in front of the mirror because we think braids are about to become a major go-to in seasons to come. Lea's look was a relaxed, almost beachy all-over braided style, an easy complement to her sparkly cocktail dress, while Katy went for the classic milkmaid braid, but added a strip of metallic gold fabric to her twist to make it a little more red carpet ready. Jennifer Lawrence's braid is so subtle you might not have even seen it, but that's what our eagle eyes are for. With an old Hollywood sweep of side bangs, Jennifer's up-do is all about drama, and the devil was certainly in the details: if you look closely, you can see that the sides of the hair style have tiny little braids snaking over to the back. We love to see more girls keeping their hair off their shoulders. Like we saw with Taylor Swift's messy up-do, which she paired with her dramatic deep V-neck Ralph Lauren gown, keeping long hair at bay really allows these stunning dresses to take center stage. Braids, however, allow all that while still leaving room for some creativity and detail, which we're super into.

Rihanna Fragrance Website

When it comes to fragrances, Rihanna doesn't play around. Since just 2011, the singer has released three scents (Reb'l Fleur, Rebelle, and Nude) all with record-breaking sales, and it looks like her quest for total perfume world domination isn't slowing. When we peeped her Facebook yesterday, it said, "You now have one place to go for all things related to Rihanna fragrances! Her new site, PerfumesByRihanna.com, gives you the deets on all your favorite Rih fragrances and you can even take a quiz to see which one fits you best." Rihanna Navy, commence freaking out.

Marc Jacobs beauty

Dear Marc Jacobs, do you ever sleep? The designer must have some multitasking superpower, since he helms multiple fashion labels, fragrance lines, AND manages to create a paper doll or two in his spare time. Now Jacobs is adding yet another project to his stuffed schedule— a makeup line, which we now hear from our friends at Fashionista is hitting Sephora shelves this fall. This is big news! Especially because we first reported the exciting announcement back in April and have been waiting (not so?) patiently ever since. Considering his labels are all so different- think the black and white mod of Marc Jacobs versus the bright patterns of Marc by Marc this season versus the chic sophisticate of Louis Vuitton- so we can't WAIT to see direction these cosmetics take.

Madeline Poole Nails Nails Nails

You may think you don't know nail artist Madeline Poole, but we can guarantee you've seen the LA-based manicurist's handiwork within the past year—whether you meant to or not. She was the mastermind behind Kelly Osbourne's killer digits for FAULT's fall cover shoot (among many, many others!), the gal who created all those dope American Apparel nail tutorials, the genius behind Nasty Gal's campaigns, and has done so many celebs' nails we can barely even keep track (our faves? Ke$ha and Kreayshawn). Even if you don't follow fashion mags, you might've also spotted her name in Sephora thanks to The New Black x Madeline Poole nail art kits. (Psst: We've even showcased her work right here on the blog!) Believe it or not, Madeline has even more amazingness up her sleeve—she's releasing a book which gives step-by-step instructions on how to complete all her signature designs this spring. YASSS.

Man, is there anything you can't do with your nails these days? UK-based nail brand Ciaté (you know, the peeps who brought you the caviar and velvet manicure) have released yet another kit to deck out your digits with—this time with foil! OooOOooh. Their Very Colourfoil (heh) Manicure collection (which is currently available to purchase on Sephora.com for $19) includes three different kits of foil sheets and polish to create an oh-so-glam look. Each kit contains foil fix glue, a paint pot, 30 foil sheets, and a "Colourfoil Canvas" to try out a design before you put in on your fingers. SMART.
