Katy Perry in sparkly nude this weekend and at the Arthur Premiere in 2011.
Katy Perry had a very busy weekend. Not only was the pop star named Billboard's Woman Of The Year, she was also honored by The Trevor Project with their 'Trevor Hero Award.'The organization, which provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention to LGBTQ teens, honored Perry for her outspokenness about suicide, and, according to the organization's CEO, Abbe Land, because "she has done so much to empower youth." Katy looked beautiful on the red carpet, in a sequined, light-beige Marchesa gown that hugged all over her envy-inducing curves while still being demure. When we first saw it, though, we got a weird feeling. "Have we seen this dress before?" we thought, and immediately began racking our brains for a similar style on the singer. Two dresses came to mind, and one in particular stuck out because of the also-similar beauty look she rocked with it. We're talking, of course, of the one-shouldered number Katy wore to the premiere of then-husband Russell Brand's film Arthur in April of 2011. Last year, Katy paired the gown, which featured more of a mermaid shape, a central, starburst sequined pattern and slightly less form-fitting construction, with super long, loose black waves and a center part. For The Trevor Project red carpet, Katy also kept her jet black mane loose, adding a crown braid to the slightly shorter, loosely curled look. There was another dress that was creeping into our brains as well, though. Check it out after the jump.

IDK what this says about me, but I majorly heart a good dreamy (see: acid-y) indie pop girl band. So when my ears/eyeballs fortunately were intro'd to TEEN's "Electric" music video, I nearly rolled under my desk whilst foaming at the mouth. Firstly, they took the hipster specs to another uh-mazing level aka the uber talented cuties rocked DRINKING STRAW GLASSES aka now I know how I'll be pregaming tonight. I'm pretty sure that ish was spiked with something that makes your eyes cry confetti because the music video also involves quirky choreographed numbers, immaculate bang whipping, and colorful inmate outfits that may or may not be found on the vintage racks at your local American Apparel. Additionally, TEEN's leader of the pack (or as I like to say, the band's Beyonce), Katherine Lieberson, goes by the nickname Teeny, which makes me quite happy. Their tunes from their debut album, 'In Limbo', (which PS you should purchase via iTunes) often inspire me to attempt cartwheels and dance alone in my bedroom a la that amazing scene in HBO's Girls. (PS why isn’t there a soundtrack obvi featuring a TEEN tune?!) Anyway, it's Monday which means I need a coffee or five which also means it's time for another Favorite Thangs. Take particular note of the following, regarding why Teeny is especially awesome: her favorite fashion icon, her go-to hangover cure, and her secret fave fashion blog. You go, girl.
Taylor Swift at the 2012 ARIA Awards.
Oh, what's a pop star to do? You're going to an awards show, and not only do you have to pick out a killer gown for the red carpet, but you ALSO have to come up with an amazing on stage look! So many outfits, so little time. While we sometimes wish we had reason for multiple costume changes throughout the day, it IS a delicate balance that must be struck when choosing one's looks for a show. At Australia's ARIA awards, two of our favorite ladies both on stage and on the carpet showed us how it's done with their looks. Taylor Swift took to the carpet in a stunning floor-length Ellie Saab gown. The dress, which featured a fitted bodice with a slightly-more-va-va-voom bustline than we're used to seeing on Taylor, had sheer panels along the sides and back. It's part Grecian goddess, part bridal, and part princess--just the right amount of grown up and youthful for our girl Tay. She kept her beauty look simple and elegant, her hair swept into a low bun, pink lips, and a smoky eye. The gown covers them, but beneath those cascading folds of fabric she was also wearing Jimmy Choo heels.
Carly Rae Jepsen is Cosmo's January cover girl.

Carly Rae Jepsen is showing herself to have staying power. With a mega-hit like "Call Me Maybe," which was not only a smash on the radio and on the charts, but on the internet as well (but you know ALL about that, we're sure), there's always the danger that your pan-flash will be just that. The tune has been out for over a year now, though, and with a second album and a Billboard Rising Star of 2012 designation, it's fair to say that there's more to Jepsen than just one tune. She is also teaching us lessons on the versatility of a simple haircut, with her signature blunt bangs and thick, long mane taking her from viral videos to the red carpet and back. Now, she's not the first to sport the wash and wear cut (there might even be some Style staffers who have been rocking it since before "Call Me" was a glimmer in Carly's eye), but she manages consistently to make it look different from cover to cover, mag spread to mag spread. On the January cover of Cosmopolitan, Carly is artfully disheveled, with her bangs and chin-length layers pushed forward, very nearly obscuring her smudgy, smoky eye.
We love a good collab, that's for sure. Not only because they allow us to snag some of that pret-a-porter style at a more reasonable price point, but also because designer collaborations allow us to see our fave clothiers stretch their muscles in a new way. The Neiman Marcus and Target CFDA holiday collection is basically the ultimate collabo, with some of our fave selections being cookie cutters from Band Of Outsiders, an Alice + Olivia bike, and a Derek Lam skateboard, and that's just scratching the surface. It also features our favorite (or rather, one of our TWO favorites) model Karlie Kloss in the super cute campaign, bounding around both print and film and generally looking like a holiday elf-goddess. We showed you the behind the scenes from the shoot, but now we have the full commercial for your viewing pleasure. Karlie is the classic sweet girl, what with her midwestern charm and cookie-making side hustle, so it makes sense that she would front a campaign so filled with good cheer. And yeah, it also helps that she's one of the biggest supermodels in the world. Watch the full commercial after the jump and tell us what you think!
Most girls dress up in heels and minidresses for their birthday bashes. But when you're Rita Ora and a certified pop star, you rock a full-on FLEECE ONESIE (!!) on your big day instead. Yes, we're serious, and yes, we're ob-sessed. While she wasn't busy pumping up her RitaBots to get #hbdRita trending on Twitter, she slipped into this blue and white owl suit for a quick photo opp. She blasted the photo above earlier this morning, saying "COUNTRY HOUSE BIRTHDAY!! #ORA2611" and hours later, we STILL can't get over the epic outfit. She's decked out in the Owl Japanese Kigurumi Costume, which she's paired with her signature sneakers. The look may be jokey (not to mention seriously comfortable) but it also just might be a sign of an unexpected style trend, since Rita's not the only one sporting the jumpsuit...Cara Delevingne, we're looking at you!
Demi Lovato is no stranger to ink. She said she had "nine or ten" tats back when the "Demi Lovato: Stay Strong" documentary premiered in March, but since then the count has no doubt increased. Just this weekend, Demi paid a visit to celeb tattoo artist (and makeup mogul) Kat Von D, to add some new art to her corporeal collection. Once you get to a certain point with tattoos, you have to start building on what you already have, and that's precisely what Demi did here. In the documentary, Demi explains that her 'faith' tattoo is a matching tattoo shared between her and a best friend that she met in treatment. The tattoo stands both for the friendship and for the fact that she says "faith has gotten me to where I am today." The new ink, which surrounds the 'faith' tattoo and spans the length of Demi's forearm, shows birds flying from the letters up to her wrist. Birds are also a common tattoo theme for Demi, so none of this is much of a surprise.

When it comes to rising pop starlets, I often find myself giving the perpetual side-eye. I don't ask for much, but I do expect the full pop package (think Brit Brit a.k.a. the Holy Spearit circa 2001). Just gimme me some major pop anthems that have good hair-whipping moments and can get my arms flailing/booty bouncing on many a tequila-drenched dance-floor, and I'm good. Luckily, there's a new burgeoning pop diva on the block, and the dizzying buzz is totally side-eye free. Meet my latest obsession Nikki Williams, who, thank the pop gods, has amazing whip-friendly, fuchsia hair and a bouffant. *faints* Equally important is her Sia-penned sassy pop gem, "Kill, F***, Marry," in which she belts her pretty face off. (FYI: Sia basically is the best songwriter in the universe a.k.a. she wrote Rihanna's "Diamonds.") Mhmm, I expect really big thangs in 2013 for the South African-bred hunni. So, go on and let the obsession begin with Nikki's favorite fashion-y things... which—sartorial spoiler alert—involves a Superman boxers/princess tiara combo as a bad day remedy. My kinda gurl!
Lena Dunham on the cover of 'iD' magazine's "Wise Up" issue.

With her cult-hit TV show, Miley-inspired chop, AND knack for knowing the ultimate beauty trends as they're happening, it's easy to say that Lena Dunham is officially having a moment. But helloooo, talk about the understatement of the century! Lena's fame is no flash in the pan, and we've got a feeling the New York filmmaker and actress isn't going ANYWHERE anytime soon. She's been killing the fashion scene as of late, turning out at the Met Gala, appearing in ASOS magazine, and now gracing the new issue of i-D. Fronting the December "Wise Up" issue, the Girls director and star shares the honor with THE one and only Grace Coddington (whose own winky perfect cover is also worth nothing). However, right now we're focused only on Lena, who looks totally stunning in an ASOS lip-print blouse, one eye covered by her fist...with her tat highly visible, of course. We always knew she was pretty, but something about her dark lashes, flushed cheeks, and reddish-pink lips take this natural beauty to the next level.
Saoirse Ronan at the ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2’ premiere this week, at the Met Gala, and at Toronto International Film Festival in 2011.

Full disclosure: I've had the pleasure of talking with Saoirse Ronan a couple of times, and this girl is preeeetty much the coolest. There aren't TOO many other actresses who choose to rock tomboyish oxfords with dresses on the red carpet, and even fewer who can pull off the look with the same quiet confidence as Saoirse. So along with fellow flat-lovers like Kristen Stewart, we're thankful she's making moves for heel-haters everywhere...ourselves included. Oh, and did we mention she's totally badass? The 18-year-old absolutely killed it -uh, literally- in last year's action flick Hanna, but the best part about Saoirse is the fact that she can hopscotch between stone-cold assassin and Hollywood ingenue in .5 seconds flat. Now that she's the new star of the film adaptation of The Host (penned by Twilight's Stephenie Meyer, so you KNOW it's gonna be huge), it's only a matter of time before Saoirse Ronan finally becomes a household name. So learn to pronounce it (Surr-Sha) and get to know our latest style star below!
