Sky Ferreira on set for 'I Blame Myself.'

Are shoppable music videos the wave of the future? Some people might think that. OK, it's me—I think that. Considering the blurring divide between editorial and commerce, and fashion and music, the video genre seems primed to take off. There’s also the fact that music videos are really expensive and, as they’ve become more and more about the clothing, getting killer looks for them can be a budgetary hurdle, especially if you’re an emerging artist without designers lining up to loan you looks.

Online retailer Ssense is making a case for the shoppable music video, along with their partner System magazine. First they teamed up with Iggy Azalea when she was a wee spitfire back in 2012 on the video for “I Think She Ready.” (As we noted last week when her Revolve campaign was announced, Iggy is kind of a pioneer in this realm.) Now, they’re working with another artist at the forefront of the intersection of music and fashion, Sky Ferreira, on the video for her new single “I Blame Myself.”

Do you know what today is? It's the third of April. What significance does this date have (other than being two days after April Fools' Day)? It's the anniversary (seventh, to be exact) of the release of Beyonce's B'Day Anthology Video Album, King Bey's first video album. *SKRRRRRRRRT* Yes, internetlings. Bey stans likely didn't forget, but for the rest of y'all, there actually was a video album that predates Beyonce's eponymous "visual album" released late last year (December 2013). Now, technically, Beyonce the album, is still the first of its kind since the B'Day Anthology was released seven months AFTER the intial audio album dropped in September 2006. BUT, the fact that it exists at all is (A) awesome, and (B) a clear indication that Bey's been thinking about this concept for a very long time. In honor of B'Day's, well, b-day, here are all of the music-video wardrobe GIFs you'll ever need. Now, go on and watch Yonce writhe in all-leopard for "Kitty Kat," shake her derriere in Dereon silver sequins for "Get Me Bodied," and tell that low-life to put everything he owns to the left, to the left, over and over (and over)!

Rita Ora

Despite the fact that Rita Ora has been seemingly everywhere over the past few months—on the runways, on the cover of magazines, working with Rimmel, DKNY, and Adidas, and filming 50 Shades of Grey—we were starting to really miss her, music-wise. It’s been two years since she released her debut album, Ora, but now we finally have a taste of what the follow-up is going to sound like, and brace yourselves, Ritabots, it’s good. In the video for the lead single “I Will Never Let You Down,” which just dropped today, Rita delivers her catchiest song yet, a pure pop love song adorably penned by her BF Calvin Harris. Of course, this being a Rita Ora video, there’s a lot of killer clothes involved, so let’s get into it!

Our first shot of Rita is a tasteful black-and-white headshot just being developed. If you’ve seen One Direction’s "Story of My Life" video, you already know what happens next: She starts singing! But unlike 1D, the vibe of Rita’s animated photos is more early ‘90s and ties into the song’s throwback sound, which, Calvin Harris told Paper, was inspired by Whitney Houston.

Lady Gaga

As it turns out, all of that confusion surrounding Lady Gaga’s new video was warranted. Even though it’s being billed as the visual for “G.U.Y.,” it’s more of a short film than a music video, split into four sections: “ARTPOP,” “Venus,” “G.U.Y.,” and “Manicure.” Did you expect any less from a video shot at a CASTLE over the course of a week? This is ARTPOP we’re talking about, where things are a little more abstract, even for Gaga. Clocking in at 11 minutes and 47 seconds, this is Gaga’s longest video to date which means (a) Brandon Maxwell had his hands full in the wardrobe department, and (b) much to our delight, there is an epic number of outfits to discuss.

Lady Gaga

In the opening “ARTPOP” shot, we see a bunch of men fighting over money as Gaga is left in a ditch with her back punctured by an arrow, looking like a wounded bird. The men walk away, picking up bills scattered across the hilltop floor on their way out, and Gaga struggles to pull out the arrow. Now, I don’t speak Gaga but I can guess that all of this imagery is an allusion to the age-old existential struggle between art and commerce. Even more interesting is the parallel, whether intentional or not, to Kanye West’s short film for “Runaway,” which also features a Phoenix character played by Selita Ebanks.

Last week, when Le1f performed "Wut" on Late Show With David Letterman and made his TV debut in Hood by Air and actual snow boots, we had no idea that a week later we'd be gifted a video for "Boom." IDK about you, but after watching this video all I wanna do is avoid diners and ride shotgun in a Jeep. It looks like my weekend plans have just been confirmed. We got the deets on the video's fashion, styled by Prince Franco, from the rapper himself, so let's not waste any more time—to the clothes!

The video begins outside the diner, with Le1f in not one, but two jackets. Winter 2014 was the winter of two jackets #polarvortex. The first is a Diesel denim jacket, and the other a Pelle Pelle leather jacket. Underneath the two jackets is a black-and-white Y-3 tank that reads "ANTI."

Missy Elliott

Hear that? It's the sound of you singing "I CAN'T STAND THE RAIN" to yourself over and over for the rest of the day. Why? Because I'm dropping another #TBT on you, and Missy Elliott's "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)" is the proud owner of an Ann Peebles-sampled hook that just won't quit. Today is the first day of spring (vernal equinox for all my science folk) which, for those of us on the East Coast, means a lot of rain in our near future. Thus, the song selection. (Well, that, and Broad City briefly spoofed it last night.) Now, without further ado, I'm breaking down the FASHUN from this iconic Missy x Hype Williams joint in this week's #TBT.

Lady Gaga

You can tell a lot about Lady Gaga’s career by looking at her video settings. Just compare the palatial home “Paparazzi” took place in with the Hearst CASTLE where Gaga’s shooting her new video, and you’ll see how far she’s come. In behind-the-scenes footage of Gaga’s latest visual project, captured by a local news crew in San Luis Obispo, Mother Monster pulls out all the stops from shooting at two different pools—a “Roman” one and a “Neptune” one—to recruiting Real Housewives Lisa Vanderpump and Kyle Richards to the larger-than-life wardrobe, even by Gaga standards.

It appears Gaga will wear one of her largest headpieces yet (no small feat) in one of the scenes. Dressed in all white like a dove—but, like, the Las Vegas showgirl-version—the ARTPOP queen was spotted walking around in a floor-length ostrich feather mohawk paired with an intricate baroque bodysuit. We can only imagine how much it weighs but she’s at least had training balancing these kinds of hats. Remember that time she wore one from Marc Jacobs' final collection for Louis Vuitton, along with the rest of the look?

Nicki Minaj

In case you were worried Nicki Minaj's "Senile" video would only contain one brand-new matching Moschino set, you can rest assured: There will be at least two. Nicki posted a new set of images from the shoot on Instagram last night, and though she has on a Moschino bra and underwear, she looks very different than she did in last week's photos. Perhaps it's that dark lip liner?

In addition to the liner, Nicki has on a pair of gold bamboo door-knocker hoops that could give Rihanna's biggest pair a run for their money. Maybe Nicki hit up Rih to ask about the "#chola" life—she went as a "#ZombieChola" for Halloween last year, so she may have tips on tying a bandana and keeping your liner in place. Just two friends exchanging lifestyle tips, y'know, the usual.

Jennifer Lopez

In addition to serving up a whole lotta half-naked dudes (#hey), Jennifer Lopez's new music video for "I Luh Ya Papi" serves up some gender equality realness. At the beginning of the video, a record label exec is pitching video locations to J.Lo and her friends (I always bring mine to meetings too) and they're, like, really terrible. A water park? How about no. The zoo? Hard pass. Jennifer and her friends decide the video should feature Jennifer in the role of a ~typical~ video guy, with the gender roles reversed. There is, for example, a shirtless man washing a car/his body while J.Lo and her friends look on. Typical Thursday where I come from, TBH.

One of biggest gender reversals in the video, at least fashion-wise, though, is when J.Lo dons a jumpsuit that is quite reminiscent of her infamous 2000 Grammys dress. I can't believe people made a big deal about this, you guys. She was wearing a full-length Versace gown that showed a little bit of chest and stomach skin. Everything else was covered. Simon Cowell wore deeper Vs on American Idol every Tuesday and Wednesday night on network TV. Anyway, it seems that because she is imitating men in her video, J.Lo wears a similar print in a similar color scheme, but it ends in pants, rather than a skirt. Talk about a power suit, riiight?

You know what your Thursday needs? A sweet, sweet R&B slow jam. Listen, I know Boyz II Men's "I'll Make Love to You" is a pretty aggressively ~seductive~ track to wedge into your work/school week, but just be glad I'm dispatching this toward the end of your day and not at 9 a.m. while you're finishing up your bagel and cream cheese. Also, it is EXTREMELY underrated in the universe of music video style. Since you likely don't remember this one off the top of your head, I'm breaking this #TBT down for you look by look.

Hey, remember when the Backstreet Boys were all lined up and glowing in pristine linens in an airplane hangar for their "I Want It That Way" video? Boyz II Men's above look predates that by five years. Fittingly for the early '90s, the dudes are working with bizarro, boxy-tailored pieces, and Wanya Morris in a jacket and trousers with a mismatched vest, and Michael McCary in a sleeveless vest with a Nehru collar. Also, some sort of cane and/or rain stick. IDK what's up with that. I don't remember that being a trend then.
