Now that the New York Fashion Week shows are over, we can sit back and survey the week as a larger unit for next season's hottest trends! It appears mixed prints isn't a look that's cooling off any time soon. In fact, judging from this Fall 2012 showing, the wielding of layered patterns is only getting more extreme. Chances are good you've already started dabbling in the idea, but if not, we'll help you figure out a few ways to make the look work.

Remember how daunting colorblocking seemed, like, a year ago? And now you probably concoct bold outfits with the trend in your SLEEP. Once you get over the initial crazy feeling, it's easy to visiualize and craft a deliciously on-trend ensemble. Just like with colorblocking, it's important that all the hues you use fit within the same mood. Rebecca Minkoff mixed a marbled pumpkin knit with goldenrod snakeprint shorts which, in sentence form, sounds insane, but because they're both earthier, Thanksgiving-esque tones, the look is harmonious. Honor paired a thinly striped black and neon lime sweater with a pencil skirt diagonally tiered in exactly the same shades - a fool-proof recipe for flawless print mixing. The always imaginative Anna Sui also went for bold colors, mixing some varied shades of sapphire which may sound like a clashy mess at first, but with the right accessories and head-to-toe commitment, the final product is really fun and striking. Also, a simple hairdo is necessary.
