A still of Lupita Nyong'o's 'Braids' short for 'Vogue.'
The year of Lupita keeps rolling on with this delightful short from Vogue. The Oscar-winning actress and MTV Style Dreamgirl reveals that after a particularly disheartening trip to New York, she found herself "morbidly disappointed" with the braids she received in an African salon there. The botched job inspired Lupita to ask an aunt of hers back home in Kenya to teach her to cornrow, box braid, and twist—skills she still practices to this day!

Well, this is a pleasant thing to gaze at on a Thursday morning, isn't it? Lupita Nyong'o landed her first Vogue cover, you guys! The gorgeous and appropriately colorful shoot was done in Marrakesh, where it may be excruciatingly hot, but you'd never know because Lupita is as cool as ever. Seriously, so cool. On the cover she wears a magenta Prada dress and delicate silver jewelry and, TBH, looks totally comfortable with being on the cover of THE magazine for fashion.
The photos inside the spread, of course, are no different.

At the CFDA Awards tonight where she's currently presenting the Womenswear Designer of the Year award, Lupita Nyong'o did just about the most deserving thing of that honor she could: She went out on a limb in the name of fashion, switching up her usual monochromatic gown game. Lupita completely slayed the red carpet in a splashy Suno jumpsuit.
YAAAS. The Met Gala means only one thing: Jarvis Derrell of #shehashadit is back with us to break down some of the looks from the red carpet. Check out what Jarvis had to say about Beyonce, Rita Ora, and more below!

Happy birthday, Mean Girls! The movie that defined the early aughts and gave the world enough quotes to last a lifetime turns 10 today—which officially makes us feel ancient. Tina Fey's masterpiece has taught us a lot over the past decade, from basic calculus (the limit does not exist!) to the dangers of an all-carb diet. But perhaps most lasting are the various fashion lessons the film doles out. After watching Mean Girls, have you been able to buy a skirt without asking your friends first if it looked good? Or worn track pants on a day other than Friday? I didn't think so.

And let us not forget the most important decree in the Plastics' Rulebook: "On Wednesdays, we wear pink." How appropriate that Mean Girls' 10th birthday falls on a Wednesday! To celebrate this twist of fate, we decided to look back at some of our favorite rosy fashion moments from the past year—as well as a few older, iconic looks that we HAD to include. Pink is just so fetch, don't you agree?
We are fully in prom mode here at MTV Style, even though we attended our own proms many moons ago. While we've brought you dresses for different price points, an entire outfit for under $100, and nail art perfect for your prom night, you may be in the market for something a little more familiar. Some of our fave celebrities wear prom-appropriate dresses on the red carpet all the time, so why not look to them for inspiration? Their duds, of course, tend to be designer and costlier than what most students want to spend on prom looks, so we found some similar alternatives. Peep them all below!

Lupita Nyong'o was the queen of the red carpet this year, especially at the Academy Awards, where she wore this "Nairobi Blue" Prada gown. The best part of Lupita's dress, as Emma Stone is well aware, is the swingy skirt. This dress from Nordstrom ($298) nails the color and the flowy skirt, but provides more coverage on top. You will not be able to stop twirling—what could be better?

You might have noticed we're a teensy bit obsessed with Lupita Nyong'o 'round these parts. TBH, it's hard NOT to be when faced with someone as beautiful and talented as she is. Well, it turns we have a new person to invite to our fan club meetings—Emma Stone. At the Thursday night premiere of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the actress said of her Prada gown, "I keep calling it my Lupita dress because I go like that [twirls]. Like Lupita." She then added, "God I wish I was Lupita." SO DO WE, EMMA.

I have a prediction that at some point in the future, history books shall recognize 2014 as The Year of Lupita. It may only be April, but Lupita Nyong'o has already won an Oscar, become the new face of Lancome, and stolen the heart of every single human on the planet. Not too shabby for just four months. ALSO, as of today, the actress has one more accomplishment to add to her 2014 résumé: being named the World's Most Beautiful by People magazine. It's a seriously impressive feat for someone who has been famous for less than 365 days, but c'mon, is anyone really surprised? Lupita's beauty and grace shine so brightly that any other choice would have felt like highway robbery.
YAAAS. #shehashadit's Jarvis Derrell is back on MTV Style and taking on looks from the 2014 MTV Movie Awards. It wouldn't be an awards show or Fashion Week without him, and we're happy to have him back. See what Jarvis has to say about ~lewks~ from the Movie Awards below!

Lots of colors, dresses with pockets, and robes (JK, there was only one of those) that we luhhhve. Below are the ladies we thought totally nailed it—check 'em out!

We've long praised Lupita Nyong'o for her love of color and wearing every shade of the rainbow during awards season, so we were thrilled when we saw that tonight she was wearing all of them, at the same time. It's official: Lupita can wear any and all colors and look amazing. We bow down.
