Something different, Rih?
Photo: Splash News
When you look at as many pictures of Rihanna as I do (personal interest/job requirement, OK?), you notice when something is different. New hair is expected, but a facial piercing is definitely not. Imagine my surprise, then, when I saw these pics of badgalriri from last night with a ring hanging from her nose! Big debuts that fly under the radar = one of thousands of reasons I miss her Instagram every single day.
Wow. In case you hadn't heard, Usher is going to perform at the 2014 VMAs. We've been thinking about Usher a lot lately, anyway. First of all, there's the "Good Kisser" remix by Disclosure. There's also the collab between Usher, Pharrell, and Nicki Minaj ("She Came to Give It To You") that already seems to be a floor burner. (Seriously, it's so catchy). But the one thing we really can't get out of our minds? That hat Usher keeps wearing.

He's been taking a page out of the Pharrell playbook by resurfacing vintage headgear. And while Ush may have had his raccoon cap since February, he’s been getting some serious mileage out of it. He’s been spotted in the cap while doing press to promote season six of The Voice, during a late night appearance with Jimmy Fallon, and, most recently, at the BET Awards. Where Usher goes, the hat goes. But does that mean it'll make the trip to Inglewood in August?
Snoop Dogg gettin' sock happy.

Just when us fashion nerds thought nothing could top Snoop Dogg's "Saint-Tropez" music video featuring Karl Largerfeld (seriously, that happened), today the rapper announced he's partnering with Swedish brand Happy Socks to create the Art of Inspiration collection, which "aims to encourage and explore creativity and artistic expression" ...through socks. Basically, this means you can wear Snoop Dogg art on your feet 24/7, which is all we've ever wanted. (How did they know?)
Whether it's Rita Ora's plastic tattoo necklace or Elle Fanning's stacked diamond and pearl strands, there's no doubting that chokers are back in a very big way. The '90s staple even made an appearance in Lanvin, Miu Miu, Carven, and Alexander McQueen's Spring/Summer 2014 collections, which means, yes, this trend is really happening (and isn't going anywhere soon!). But if you're still side-eyeing the resurgence of jewelry you wore in middle school, we found some awesome options no matter your style or budget. Seriously! Check 'em out below.
'90S INSPIRATION: Mathilda from Léon: The Professional
WHERE TO BUY:
+ Sun Charm Choker, Topshop, $18
+ '90s Cross Invisible Choker Necklace, Asos, $16
+ Alien Black Velvet Choker, Storenvy, $9
+ Yin Yang Choker, Shopjeen, $35
If you thought festival fashion had already peaked, think again! Katy Perry just extended the shelf life of the trend with her second collection for Claire’s, dubbed “Wildflower,” which will provide endless floral options for the Coachella set. Unlike “Roar,” her first collection for the store, “Wildflower” isn’t as much inspired by Katy’s songs as it is by the bohemian style that’s come to dominate music festivals—and she should know. By now, Katy’s pretty much a pro at Coachella, having attended for the past four years. Here we were thinking that she just went for the parties and music. Apparently, Katy was also doing some field research.
Real talk: who wore this collar better?
Photo: @ladygaga Instagram/Splash News
Yesterday, Lady Gaga left her apartment wearing the above Tudor ruff because—IDK—it was Wednesday? We all celebrate the middle of the week differently, right? She wore an oversized blazer, her new fave wig, and carried Asia, who was just hanging. Literally—look at her cute li'l legs!
Last night, Gaga posted photos of Asia wearing the Elizabethan collar (but not that Elizabethan collar) which begs the question: who wore it better? OK, it doesn't, but play along, plz?
You'd be amazed at how many strangers come up to me, unprovoked, and say, "That's an, um, interesting iPhone case you have there. How does it even fit in your pocket?" The answer: it doesn't, and I'm totally OK with that. A couple months ago, I got a new (disclaimer: very large and very awesome) case and since then, I've encountered—what I'm calling—Impractical iPhone Case Bullying or IICB. Family members, friends, and total randos think it's OK to come up to me and dismiss my tech accessory because it's not 100% practical. And you know what? It's time to make a case for all these, erm, cases.
Who wore Maleficent horns better?
The new Maleficent movie has only been in theaters for a week, but the famous Disney villain has already become synonymous with Angelina Jolie. Angie personifies the role SO much (trust me, you should see it), we can't imagine anyone else ever topping her interpretation. Well, at least that's what we thought...until we saw 50 Cent on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night.
Bringing back the pasties.

Recently, Nicki Minaj has been keeping her look subdued. She's worn floor-length gowns to events in lieu of, like, a billion stuffed animals and has been favoring simple hair to wigs. She even—it seems—was so done with her wigs that she gave them to Rihanna. While we've enjoyed Nicki's new ~lewk~, we'd by lying if we said we didn't miss her old one. Well, good news—last night she brought back one of her former fave accessories: pasties!
Nicki performed at Hot 97 Summer Jam (and hung out with Rih, #JEALZ) wearing some silver star pasties and a completely sheer chain mail shirt. Nicki has been a longtime fan of pasties, but this is the first time we can think of that she's ever worn them on stage. She's worn them in videos, in the comfort of her own home, and on Halloween, but never as, like, an integral part of her outfit. It makes sense, though, considering how much she hates bras.
We just wanna look like RiRi.

Before you get all eye roll-y, just hear us out: Bucket hats are back, and we shouldn't be so mad about it. Yeah, sure, in the mid-2000s you only spotted them on Disneyland dads, babies on the beach, or, like, actual fisherman, but today everyone from Rihanna to Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino to the entire A$AP Mob are wearing this '90s staple on a semi-regular basis—and you can thank Run DMC, LL Cool J, and Aaliyah (RIP) for that. So, let's dissect why exactly we should be rockin' a bucket hat in 2014.
1. THEY MAKE YOU LOOK LIKE RIHANNA
Maybe it's just us, but one of our life goals is to look like Rihanna, and this certainly takes us one teeny, tiny step closer. She can't get enough of 'em as of late, and the floral Joyrich one she's wearing court-side (above) is already sold out. See? We knew we were onto something.
