Angelina Jolie, 50 Cent

Who wore Maleficent horns better?
Photo: ABC/Disney

The new Maleficent movie has only been in theaters for a week, but the famous Disney villain has already become synonymous with Angelina Jolie. Angie personifies the role SO much (trust me, you should see it), we can't imagine anyone else ever topping her interpretation. Well, at least that's what we thought...until we saw 50 Cent on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night.

And the Oscar for the Best Dress at the 2014 Academy Awards goes to... Ugh, bear with me. This seal is stuck. Man, this thing is REALLY on there. Does anyone happen to have, like, an envelope opener or something? I JUST got this mani and really don't want to ruin my nails. Anybody? Bueller? OK, well, in that case, we're just going to have to give you our top 10 because TBH, we didn't want to pick a favorite anyway.

OHHH, LUPITA. How do we love thee? Let us count the ways! JK, nobody has time for that (our list is LONG). But seriously, we are obsessed with Nyongo's "Nairobi blue," deep-V custom Prada gown. Paired with a delicate gold Fred Leighton headband, diamond leaflet earrings, and her adorable "family totem" frog-shaped ring, the Best Supporting Actress winner proved, yet again, why she's fashion AND film's newest "It" Girl. She just. Can't. Lose.

Just when we thought we couldn't love a gown on Kate Hudson more than that slinky, yellow satin number she wore at the end of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (GAH. SO GOOD!), she swoops in from left field with this beaded, belly-grazing Atelier Versace gown, complete with shrouded cape.

You guys, the 86th Annual Academy Awards are this Sunday. Like, in three days. Do you have your viewing gowns picked out? Have you picked up cheeses for your appetizer spread? Phew. Us, too. In order to mentally prepare ourselves for all the red carpet looks we'll be treated to on Sunday (also, #tbt), we're taking a look at past Oscars' looks—from Angelina Jolie's right leg-baring Versace Atelier gown to Anne Hathaway's nipple-parody-inducing Prada dress, and everything that came before them.

Listen up, kiddos. There's something no one tells you when you start dating someone—you WILL morph into this person someday. When any two people are together long enough, they start to take on similar traits. Whether its an annoying snort-laugh or affinity for wearing sweatpants 24/7, eventually something's gonna give, but, look, it doesn't have to be such a bad thing. See: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. I mean, OK, yes they are two of the best looking people in the world blah blah blah, but lately, they can't seem to stop wanting to look like total twinsies—especially when it comes to their hair. The adorable twosome have been promoting World War Z in Europe, and every time they turn up to a premiere, we SWEAR they are sporting the same 'do. Don't believe us? Check out our evidence below.

In Paris yesterday, the cute couple arrived wearing their similarly-colored strands in a no-fuss low ponytail complete with—get this—matching all-black suit and shirts. It also doesn't help that they have basically the EXACT same shiny hair texture and volume.

Angelina Jolie, Michelle Williams, Halle Berry, Bjork, Gwyneth Paltrow, Oscars

We're not sure if you could tell from the QUADRILLION movie fashion articles we've been churning out for the past few weeks, but we are suffering from MAJOR Oscars fever here at MTV Style. With the 2013 Academy Awards RIGHT around the corner (this Sunday, y'all!) our anticipation of all the history-making red carpet togs is reaching inexplicable heights. We are SO sugar high crazy off the waiting, guys. Or our anxious snack-consuming disease... I DIGRESS. Because the Oscars put the final glamorous cap on the winter awards season, Hollywood's best and brightest save their most show-stopping sartorial numbers for this event, and the results are truly dazzling. To quench our thirst for Oscars fashion, we took a look back — from Angelina Jolie's black velvet Versace Atelier last year (#neverforget Angie's Right Leg) to Michelle Williams in stunning yellow Vera Wang for the 2006 show, from Halle Berry's risky but drop-dead sheer bodiced 2002 Elie Saab to Bjork's infamous Marjan Pejoski swan dress to the unforgettable image Gwyneth Paltrow in baby pink Ralph Lauren way back in 1999, and everything in between — and put the most memorable red carpet ensembles from the past 20 years together in a pretty little photo gallery for you to click through endlessly. That is, until the action starts THIS YEAR with our 2013 Oscars red carpet fashion live blog. Enjoy!

Editors Note: Phew! Can you believe we're exactly one week away from Christmas? And only two weeks away from New Year's? The time is FLYING and it's probably because we're having so much fun sharing our 2012 faves with you (sorry, we had to). Yesterday we brought you a sillier one, our the biggest cat ladies of 2012, and tonight we bring it back to something you might have expected a little more of us, which is the best red carpet beauty looks of 2012. To narrow down our immense list of much-loved looks, we enlisted beauty correspondent Annamarie Tendler, who you might know from The Daily Face, and her halloween makeup tutorial on House Of Style! We commend her for being able to pick her top 5. There were so many good ones, we were about going crazy just thinking about having to choose!

While the dress reigns king when stepping out on the red carpet, we can't forget how hair and makeup can make or break a look. A bad chignon or over done face can destroy everything, while an amazing updo or knockout red lips can save a boring dress. Here are my top five favorite beauty looks from the red carpet this year. Oh, and the dresses aren't bad either.

This is a gutsy look and it totally worked, not many woman could pull off something this harsh. This is a perfect example of dress, hair and makeup complementing each other perfectly. Camilla Belle looks like she walked out of a party in The Great Gatsby. I want to dress like this every day.

Angelina Jolie Dress

Ladies and gentlemen, we witnessed a phenomenon at the 2012 Oscars tonight: Angelina Jolie's right leg. From her arrival on the red carpet to presenting onstage, she just could not stop hitching her hand squarely on her hip to pop out her svelte gam ALL. NIGHT. LONG. Posing with Brad Pitt? POP. Solo red carpet shots? POP. Reading from the teleprompter? POP. Sitting in her seat? POP. Nah, just kidding, that would look tawdry (but CONSISTENT!). Angie's black Atelier Versace strapless, zigzag bodice with a hiiiiiiiigh-thigh slit was the perfect curtain to showcase her scene-stealing limb, and the structure of the bustier provided endless hand placement possibilities.

Our favorite time of year is here! We're talking about the 2012 Oscars, aka the Academy Awards, also known as the closest thing fashion stylists get to competing in the Olympics. Watching the nominees and Hollywood royalty waltz down the red carpet in all their fairy-tale princess glory is our sport of choice, and we've been glued to the pre-show proceedings ready to decree the fairest of them all. We were captivated by giant crimson bows, voluminous blood orange confections, lace trains, and a particular prince who broke the black tuxedo spell with some swoon-worthy velvet panache. It wasn't easy *wipes sodden brow* but here, without further ado, are our Best Dressed looks of the night.

Emma Stone Oscars

Dear Emma Stone, YOU WIN. In the category of Best Vivid Oscar Dress of Classic Feminine Delight, you get the imaginary MTV Style golden button statue. Not only was this crimson Giambattista Valli gown a triumphant choice due to the gargantuan halter neck bow, elegant silhouette, and undulating floor-grazing hem, we were particularly taken with the poise in which you wore it. Look at the relaxed arms anchored by that single diamond bracelet, the subtle makeup that highlights the skin yet doesn't detract from the gown, and the side-swept hair that is at once classic and crowning in a complementary strawberry hue. We're smitten, bowled over, and utterly transfixed by this ensemble. BRAVO to one of the most stunning gals of the night.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards is the one awards show that's for actors by actors. It's like the fun younger sibling to the Golden Globes, as it honors acting achievement in both film and television and guarantees a fashion PARADE that signals that last triumphant push toward the Oscars. (We're in the final stretch, people!) Usually the SAG stahhs tend to mix it up and get a bit more playful on the ol' red carpet, and for this year's 2012 SAG Awards there was no shortage of vibrant color, mega texture, cutouts, plunging necklines, volumes of feathers, and even a 1970s studded pantsuit. So what are we waiting for? Let's get into this...

Dianna Agron opted for POW color with magenta Carolina Herrera. Always the go-to designer for ladylike red carpet gowns, we think this look is very awards-friendly yet eye-catching for both the deep neckline and intricately braided updo. It's also just straight-up pretty and makes us think about springtime, Valentine's Day, and the scent of prize-winning roses.

The Hollywood Foreign Press' Golden Globe Awards is one of our favorite red carpet events of the year. Sure, there's the Oscars, the Grammys, and of course, our own Movie Awards and VMAs, but there's a spirited mix of glamour and richesse when it's not only the hottest names in film but in television as well. Plus, there's the heightened pressure of being the award ceremony RIGHT before the Academy Awards. We're sure that picking the 2012 Golden Globe Winners wasn't an easy task, but cutting down a list of the night's best dressed to our top 10 was a VERY SERIOUS challenge, too. After some HEATED debate and 11 pounds of sugar EACH (thank you, Momofuku cake truffles and Sour Patch children) in the Official MTV Style Situation Room, *wipes beads of sweat from sodden brow* we did it. Here we GO.

Dianna Agron in head-to-toe scarlet Giles Deacon may very well be our favorite look of the night. While wearing red on the red carpet is a risky move, this gown is genuinely a work of art and styled so expertly that Dianna more than pulls it off. She keeps her hair in a simple updo with bold red lips and minimizes jewelry to highlight the majestic laser-cut tiers and swans.
