Formerly scoffed by many as the slightly less-beloved long-legged cousin of the romper, the elusive JUMPSUIT is working its way to becoming a commonly seen and widely accepted silhouette. That's right. The utilitarian onesie is no longer the exclusive uniform of skydivers and motorcycle racers. Nor is it relegated to the stage as a fanciful performance outfit in the form of a neon spandex catsuit. Nope. The jumpsuit is ready for real life where it can roam free in the wild of city sidewalks and cul-de-sac barbeques.

Riding the wave of the '90s revival alongside Justin Bieber and Willow Smith's classic sitcom t-shirts, Lady Gaga's vintage Versace, and Nickelodeon's '90s Are All That, the jumpsuit is cleaning up its act this time around, abandoning the painted-on plastic/latex/PVC of the nineties for more sophisticated, relaxed cuts and easy, (PRAISE BE) breathable fabrics. Sure, you end up basically naked every time you have to use the bathroom, but the refreshing figuration is WORTH IT.

Maria Sharapova, Jaime Winstone, and Jessica Szohr love their ankle-hugging shoes.

So, guys, we had a revelation. A really big, really important MEGA-revelation that will change the course of your lives and ours for, like...a while. Because you know what? Tuesdays just aren't all they're cracked up to be. You'd think wedged between dreary Monday and the hopeful Hump Day Wednesday, Tuesday would have a little pep in its step on that up-hill climb toward Friday. (At least, for what it's worth, Thursday is giddy with anticipation of the weekend.) Tuesdays just fall flat. Well well well. SURPRISE! We've moved the beloved Shoe Update to TUESDAYS to breathe a little life and joy and fancy into the sadly deflated day. And this installment of the round-up spotlights the lovely Maria Sharapova, English actress Jaime Winstone, and ex-Gossip Girl Jessica Szohr in their ankle-hugging finest.

Jessica Szohr at Us Weekly's Hot Hollywood Party in Hollywood on April 26, and Amanda Michalka at NYLON's Young Hollywood Issue party in Hollywood on May 4.
Photo: Getty Images

Typically for one of these, "Who Ran It"/"Who Wore It Better"-type posts there's an editor or writer who POUNCES on a pair of images, thrilled to pieces that two bold name Hollywood or music industry types are wearing the same frock. There's always a pedantic mega-breakdown of each element of the outfit, the dress's fit, the accessories, the bangles/earrings/headbands/anklet/toe rings that are intended to complement the ensemble's nuanced points and then there's a vote of some sort that determines who "won." I don't really feel like doing that today.

Both Gossip Girl's Jessica Szohr and Easy A's Amanda Michalka look rad in this black, scoop-neck, lace, long-sleeved dress with a full gathered skirt. Each girl has absolutely gorgeous legs, and each possessed the wherewithal to wear a solid, dark, bra underneath with simple, non-fussy shoes and easy, shiny, pretty hair. The potential trap with a dress like this is that it errs on the side of frilly or too-flouncy if worn with overpowering jewelry (like, it would look dumb costumey with pearls) and looks way too formal the second your hair is gathered into an updo. Even a messy bun tends to look like the "morning after." The best thing about this number, that's called the Addict Skater Dress? It's a steal at $169. Click through to buy it here and, not to be completely outrageous, but we here at MTV Style are not mad at this for prom. Just as we are NEVER mad at any occasion that could call for an early-era Madonna-ish style homage. I mean, if you're going to go for the gusto, do the frizzy hair, lace headband, strands upon strands of pearls, cut-off denim jacket, fingerless lace gloves and go to town. And, as always, send us a picture.

In last night's episode of Gossip Girl, "Petty in Pink," we found out that Lily Bass Humphrey (Kelly Rutherford) got sentenced to house arrest instead of who-knows-how-many-years in the big house for sending an innocent man to prison. She'll spend the next nine months hiding her ankle monitor, but that means she gets to stock up on new long maxi dresses and wide leg slacks (always looking on the bright side).

An editor contacted Dan with an assignment to follow and slyly report on visiting Prince Louie Grimaldi. Turns out the French prince was actually Blair Waldorf's (Leighton Meester) fling from her summer spent in Paris. His majesty defied his parents to spend time with his American crush (Blair) in NYC. To ensure Louie was able to stick around, she staged a kiss with Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) to trick the prince's handler into believing he isn't commingling with the commoner. OF COURSE, the scheme backfired. Charlie Rhodes (Kaylee DeFer) sent footage of the "kiss" to Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) and Gossip Girl, who proceeded to send it to the entire Upper West Side.

Meanwhile, Raina Thorpe (Tika Sumpter) was on the hunt for her birth mother but didn't want to tell Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick), who was drowning his own misery in booze, straight-up Howard Hughes-style. At first, Chuck wanted to stop Raina from finding her mother, but then he had a change of heart.

And, what would an episode of Gossip Girl be without a high-fashion party scene? In this installment, it was the annual UWS Pink Party (Think: P. Diddy's white party...with petal, salmon, and honeysuckle hues). Check Blair's Oscar de la Renta strapless frock, and Serena's Marchesa mini. HOT.

The Upper East Siders are back, and as decked out in Marchesa and Diane Von Furstenberg as ever. Last night's episode of Gossip Girl ("The Kids Stay in the Picture") opens with the media blitz surrounding Lily Humphrey's (Kelly Rutherford) legal woes--remember when she signed her daughter's name on an affidavit that sent an innocent man to jail (it's really wayyyyy more complicated than that, but...). The subplot centers around the massive amounts of drama created by the photo shoot for a fancy pants annual who's who book called Modern Royalty (basically, it's a coffee table book filled with portraits of rich families). Meanwhile, Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) wonders why he's suddenly getting the cold shoulder from Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester). News flash, Chucky-boo, she kissed Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) and the two caught feelings for each other...or so we thought. Blair actually realized that it's Chuck she wants. Ugh! Love triangles! Oh, and there's a new Upper East Sider on the block. Serena Van Der Woodsen's (Blake Lively) sheltered cousin Charlie (Kaylee DeFer) spends a day in the Van Der Woodsen world, and falls in love (hello! what's not to love about Rouland Mouret?). After Serena buys Charlie $1000 worth of clothes, Carol (Charlie's mom and Lily's sister) flips. Against her mother's will, Charlie decides she wants to stay on the UES indefinitely. Charlie's mom hints at a past situation serious enough to get her kicked out of school. Hmmm...the way she was eying Blair's Coco Chanel and Louboutins...and Dan, we wonder if the secret is that she likes to take things. Watch your Prada, people.

• Tween actress Chloë Moretz outshines women twice (and thrice, yikes) her age on the red carpet, and she recently revealed that she does it sans stylist. {Glamour}

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana (known to the well-heeled world as Dolce & Gabbana) are probs losing their minds rejoicing—the duo was acquitted of tax evasion (they were charged with failing to pay taxes on $1.1 billion in sales) by a judge who said there wasn't enough evidence to go to trial. Thank the satin-covered floral heavens. {Fashionista}

• The similarities between teen-blogging phenom Tavi Gevinson and Bebe Zeva, a 17-year-old fashion blogger, are sorta freaky—they both have four-letter names, they both live in non-fashion forward cities, and they are both as interested in fashion as they are in writing. And they're both preternaturally talented in a manner that freaks you out a little! {Elle}

• According to a news study out of the Netherlands, wearing designer labels—Lacoste, Hilfiger, Chanel [interesting threesome, no?])—could help you land a new gig. Yeah, but what if you need the new gig to afford to buy those designer labels. Chicken. Egg. Cart. Horse? {Styleite}

• Dude florals aren't just for island hopping anymore. The trendy (albeit sorta fey) print has been spotted under blazers, on button-downs, on Dr. Marten shoes, and Ray-Bans. {Fashion Indie}

Jessica Szohr has been tapped as the new face (er, armpit?) for Dove's Ultimate Go Sleeveless deodorant, an antiperspirant for women who like to go sans sleeves. {People StyleWatch}

Carrie Underwood hit the stage at the 2011 Academy of Country Music Awards rocking bright pink hair extensions. Looks like SOMEONE got hit by the Rihanna hair color bug. {Stylelist}

• Ever wonder what fashion designer Betsey Johnson wore to her senior prom in 1958? Apparently, it was something strapless, something calf-length, and something super-poufy. {Coco Perez}

Despite being in the gray days of winter, the red carpet saw a jolt of color this week in the form of fabulously vivid footwear. Chloe Sevigny brightened up our day when she posed in a pair of fiery orange wrap-up Christian Louboutin sandals, while Jessica Szohr's hot pink Christian Louboutin peep-toe platforms brought a blast of color to her white and black ensemble. And it was hard to miss Kerry Washington's electric blue ankle booties—they stood out even next to her shiny, sequined minidress. All of these shoes made us smile (how could they not?!), but which pump did you think popped brightest this week?

Jessica Szohr at a SoBe Lifewater launch on Jan. 6 in New York and on the set of the commercial shoot in Costa Rica.
Photo: Getty Images/SoBe

Gossip Girl Jessica Szohr was spotted at C&C Studios in New York City yesterday wearing the cutest little striped dress with magenta peep toes. But the dress wasn't the main attraction. The actress was there to launch SoBe Lifewater and unveil the promotional campaign she stars in for the beverage company. The ad shows a svelte Jessica posing near a fire hydrant in her birthday suit (with strategically placed paint made to look like lizard skin). Shocking marketing? Not really. This isn't the first time SoBe asked a celeb to model in the buff (excuse us, in a "skinsuit")—Twilight's Ashley Greene was the company's spokesperson last year.

Judging by the parade of stars spotted at the New Year's Eve grand opening of the Marquee Nightclub at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, celebs aren't the stay-at-home-snuggled-up-in-a-blanket-on-New-Year's-Eve bunch. Serenaded by Jay-Z, Coldplay, Kanye West and John Mayer, tons of stylish A-listers rung in 2011 at the brand-new 60,000-square-foot club dressed to impress. We're talking everything from sequins and bow ties, to feathers and winter white. Did you expect anything less? It's Vegas, baby!

We are now convinced that the formula for a perfect party look includes two things: a patterned, ruffled, or sequined dress and a pair of HOT shoes. Actress Rashida Jones went the sequins route in a gold and black sheath, while Karate Kid's Tariji P. Henson and reality star Whitney Port both chose turquoise ruffles. Supermodel Selita Ebanks stepped out in a figure-flattering Calvin Klein patchwork dress with an asymmetrical hemline.

Proving that a party dress doesn't have to be loud (bright pink, neon green, crystal ball silver) to make a statement, starlets Jessica Szohr, Emmy Rossum, Kirsten Dunst and Olivia Munn chose intricate dresses in mute colors like black, white and tan. Our fave dress details: Gossip Girl Jessica's fringe benefits and Emmy's double straps.

THE CLASSICS

These men in black kept things quintessential in standard (but suave) dark suits. While Dear John star Channing Tatum and Garrett Hedlund from Tron: Legacy went for the laid-back unbuttoned look, Glee’s Mark Salling and actor James Marsden teamed theirs with sleek skinny ties.

The little black dress is, without a doubt, a fashion staple. Some might even say it’s the ONLY fashion staple. And this past year, we saw celebrities and fashionistas rock the LBD in a number of gorgeous styles, from embellished minis like those worn by Olivia Palermo to leather frocks like those on Jessica Alba. Let’s take a look at our favorites.

KRISTEN STEWART: Kristen Stewart attended theTwilight Saga: Eclipse screening in a long-sleeve RM by Roland Mouret Fall 2010 dress adorned with plum and silver embellishments. The actress finished her look with classic black pumps—so elegant!

VANESSA HUDGENS: Vanessa Hudgens proved she’s not afraid to show a little skin in this strapless black mini with cutouts on the side. The dress may have been on the simple side, but Vanessa spiced it up with festive strappy sandals and a wrist-full of bangles.

EMMA WATSON: Emma Watson went for a super feminine frock while co-hosting an event in New York City last March. The Harry Potter actress chose a black Christopher Kane number made of leather and lace and decorated with a blue, pink, and yellow floral pattern.

WHITNEY PORT: Whitney Port opted for volume at the Sex and the City 2 premiere in New York City last May. The City star wore a strapless black frock that came with a huge, voluminous skirt. And below-the-knees, Whitney picked studded black ankle booties.
