We've already discussed beauty trends from New York Fashion Week, so now we need to discuss the other major player on runways that isn't, y'know, clothing: HAIR! After looking at basically every Fashion Week picture that exists, we decided the number one trend that ruled the runways, hair-wise, was braids. There were braids everywhere. Some people may think braids are reserved for warmer seasons like spring or summer, but those people would be wrong. Fall/Winter braids are obviously becoming a ~thing~, so you better make sure your fingers are nimble come September. Check out braids from NYFW below!

Braided bangs, a somewhat underused plait in the braid world of which I'm queen, showed up twice on runways. The first was at Creatures of the Wind, where the braid practically covered the model's entire forehead, and the second was at Nanette Lepore where it was thinner and sleeker. You don't need actual bangs to get yourself some braided bangs—just comb some of your hair forward and voilà.

When Lorde hit the stage at this year's Grammy Awards, instead of grabbing our attention with a glittery thong or an elaborate set, the 17-year-old New Zealand export appealed to our digital tastes with her dark, dripping, dip-dyed finger art. We'd spotted similar styles on Michele Lamy, the eclectic wife, muse, and creative mind behind Rick Owens, and at Mara Hoffman's F/W 2011 presentation, but now it seems like this alternative form of nail art is turning into a full-blown trend.

It's only the second day of New York Fashion Week, but we've already caught painted fingers on the runways of designers like Creatures of Comfort and Adam Selman. CofC mirrored Lorde's Grammy nails by bronzing their models' fingers from tip to joint. Selman went with a cleaner, more graphic style, adding tattooed black bands on all five fingers, like a string of permanent midi-rings. But, lest you be deceived (and as is usually the case with almost any trend), in fashion, everything old is new again—and finger art is no exception.

OMG. Looks like yet another former Hills star can take "engagement ring" off their Christmas list this year. Reality star-turned-designer Whitney Port (who's been through her fair share of some very public dating disasters) just got engaged to her producer beau of two years, Tim Rosenman, who she met on the set of her Hills spin-off, The City. We're really happy for them and we're gonna let them finish celebrating, but we are DYING to get a glimpse of the ring, which has yet to be revealed. Will it be round and classic like Lauren Conrad's? A whopping square-cut stunner like Kristen Cavallari's? Something eclectic and vintage that reflects her laid-back, downtown boho style? EEE! Just show us already, kthx! (Also, CONGRATS!)

It's done, y'all. Another Fashion Week has come and gone, and we now know what we, or more likely, celebs, will be wearing come the warmer days in seventh months. That's a lot of time to think about what to wear come April, and also a lot of recovery time. Fashion Week is exhausting! We're worn out from writing about it from the comfort of a chair, so we can only imagine how Fashion Week fixtures feel after running around in multiple fancy outfits per day, schmoozing with other famous peeps, and sitting on a hard bench with two inches in each direction to call their own.

Teen Wolf star Holland Roden was one of our front row faves from the past week, hitting up not one, not two, but FIVE shows. Two of those shows were in the same day, which Holland took as an opportunity to change her outfit, hair, and shoes. Oh, she also wore different colors to each show, and that only included NYFW standard black ONCE. Let's take a look at her wildly varying looks.

Holland kicked off her week at Rebecca Minkoff and was obviously a fan of the live Janelle Monae soundtrack: she Instagrammed a pic of the singer, which also serves to give plebes like us a taste of front row life. It tastes like air because of #fashion. JK, it tastes like almonds because of #fashion. Holland wore a navy leather shirt, black, white, and pink striped pants, and some strappy red pumps.

Mara Hoffman

It seems Mara Hoffman lives in a gypset world of eternal sunshine. She's the queen of color and dazzling, well-traveled prints year-round, but it's now, in the dredges of winter, that we appreciate her sunny design disposition most. The collection Mara unveiled today was steeped in corals, cobalts, and ultra fuschias with intricate, symmetrical prints, seemingly influenced by all corners of the world — speckled radials, stained glass motifs, and technicolor zebra stripes. Whether silhouettes were body-conscious or floaty and ethereal, every ensemble on Mara's runway was striking and dramatic. Models were accessorized with metal cap-toe shoes, Pamela Love armor rings, and earring chains draped from lobe to lobe across each model's back and long hair.

When New York Fashion Week and nail art combine, beauty is BOUND to happen, and at the spring 2013 shows we couldn't get enough of all the killer designs! From out-of-this-world 3D nail art to subtle stained tips, there was certainly no shortage of mini masterpieces to be found on the runway. We narrowed down our top 10 favorite designs, so take a peek at all the stellar nail art below!

The Blonds certainly glam it up for their runway ensembles, so of course they needed top-notch nails to match! While the models all wore different nail designs, we personally liked this new approach to the traditional caviar manicure. The red pearls are placed delicately down the center of the nail for an avant-garde take on the trend. (Also, PLEASE don't forget to take a peek at Phillipe Blond's tips. Like, we're gonna need our face painted our nails ASAP. Kthxbi.)

Oy, Fashion Week. There's so much to pay attention to when you're out and about at the shows that sometimes it feels like your neck is going to snap from how fast you're looking from one thing to the next, but that's part of the excitement of it all, right?! *Rubs neck and grimaces* There was a lot to look at this season, but we kept finding ourselves gravitating away from the clothes and up to the hair and makeup, and there were two trends that spoke to us in particular. It's not THAT surprising that we loved these two looks, because both were also very popular when we were in our fashion coming-of-age/experimentation phase, also known as middle school. We're talking, of course, about crimped hair and bright eyeshadow. While for a long time after our youth we scorned at both of these looks, deeming them nerdy and passe, enough time has gone by (*clutches walker*) that they're starting to look fresh again. It might also be that now we're grownups and have more of a grasp on the rest of our fashion game, so we would know better than to pair either of these with, say, JNCO jeans or really puffy bangs (which should never come back, just saying). Get your crimping tools hot and your eyeshadow brush fluffed, and let's go!

Crimped Hair

Cute crimped styles that are nothing like middle school at Timo Weiland, Betsy Johnson, and Mara Hoffman.

We're always tempted by the "stylers" in the drugstore. You know the ones, they're like combination straightener, curler, crimper, and then there are a bunch of other plates that you can switch in and out to do who knows what to your locks? We've avoided them up until now (and are unhealthily attached to our beloved ghd styler), but the runways have made us think we might have to invest in an extra tool. We saw crimped hair at Betsey Johnson, Mara Hoffman, and Timo Weiland, and we have to say, we love it. This look only works on already straight locks, we think, although it might be weird and cool (or a disaster) to try and crimp your curls. We especially love Timo's version, where the crimped hair comes as a surprise in a long, thick braid. Since it's not all in your face, the crimping is more subtle, like an extra flourish rather than a whole, bold look. We also love the idea of pairing crimped hair with a matching outfit in mixed textures, so that the concept is kept consistent in both beauty and fashion.

Mara Hoffman

We're BIG fans of Mara Hoffman at MTV Style. The bright colors (even in the gloomier months!), the printed realness, the brain-petting symmetry - it's all totally our steez. And with her bringing in a varied crowd from Queen B Lil Kim, to her BFF Pamela Love, to our bb gurl Holland Roden, her designs are clearly widely appreciated. Naturally, her New York Fashion Week shows are hotly anticipated events for our entire staff. This season, with its luxe cording appliques, flirty cuts, and fresh Polynesian inspiration, was no exception. PLUS, there were Ukelele girls!

As if it weren't obvious enough already from the surf boards they give out as prizes, the Teen Choice Awards show is ALL about having fun. Lucky for us, the show's carefree summertime mentality also translated into some equally awesome outfits for everyone who was lucky enough to attend. All of our faves turned out on the red-sorry, pink- carpet, from Selena to Taylor to Holland to No Doubt (continuing their epic return, yesss!). And while it's tough to narrow all the styles down to our top ten, someone's gotta do it. Check out our official Best Dressed list below!

Selena Gomez

Between steamy magazine covers and starring in her sultry perfume commercial, there's no question that Selena Gomez is all grown up. But for Teen Choice, she looked the part of, well, a teenager, in a bright pink DSQUARED2 dress. Between the mini's skater silhouette, her long, straight hair, and smokey eye makeup, Selena looked like a young, fresh, modern-day Barbie. We love the no-fuss hair and makeup, and how Selena opted for absolutely zero jewelry. This is proof that you don't have to be totally over-the-top to still look totally gorgeous.

I love these two as a couple. What a festive way to celebrate two important events in their life. Mariah looks like a dream.
