Chris Kattan, Mango

The last person you'd expect to see at the CFDAs (basically the Oscars of fashion) is a goofy comedian. UNLESS, of course, he was dressed as the most fashionable Saturday Night Live character of all time (besides Maya Rudolph as Donatella). We're talking about none other than Mango, the enchanting exotic dancer played by Chris Kattan during his time on the show. When we saw Mango walk down the red carpet as Alexander Wang's date, we were equal parts excited and confused. Sure, we were stoked to see the character resurrected in leather hot pants and a glittery beret, but also...why was he there in the first place?

Pharrell

Photo: @pharrell Instagram

If you're anything like me, your Saturday-night footwear is limited to, like, boots or slippers. Pharrell, it is clear, is not anything like me. I mean, he performed on Saturday Night Live last night in these bad boys. What are they, you ask? Oh, just a pair of customized Swarovski crystal Stan Smith sneakers, NBD. Looks like partnering with Adidas has its perks, eh?

Flanked by a group of string musicians, Skateboard P performed "Marilyn Monroe" wearing the shoes, a black three-stripe jacket, and his green Vivienne Westwood Buffalo hat. Will the shoes become a full-time piece of P's look, like the jacket and the hat? Will he be able to get anything he wants customized with crystals from now on? These shoes raise a lot of questions.

Morgan O'Connor, Jimmy Fallon

I know we just got done with a week of hyping up the new clothes that'll be gracing our closets the next time fall and winter come around, but I wanna rewind to present day for a sec. Have you guys seen the Fall/Winter 2013 campaign for Polo Ralph Lauren? Or I guess, since the campaign itself is actually pretty standard fare for RL—Americana, camping, incongruous brights + herringbone tweed styling choices—the better question is: Have you seen this new model with the dreads (Ford's Morgan O'Connor) who stars in it? And MOST important, is it just me or does he look EXACTLY like Jimmy Fallon's lovable webcast-hosting "Jarret's Room" character?

Drake

Drake on 'Saturday Night Live.'
Photo: NBC/Saturday Night Live

I'm not saying I was nervous for Drake to host SNL. I'm just saying that my insides were convulsing in meaty ways because I just want the whole world to love him the way I do, and OH GOD, what if he totally Phelps'd it? Or what if he was too cool to play along? The best hosts accept and dive into skit concepts that make them look foolish in the best ways possible (see: Hutcherson, Josh.) What if Drake was stiff, or even worse, not funny? FEAR NOT, me. This is a dude who started as an actor, see. And as it turns out, he's still a consummate pro—even in the glare of live television.

How many rappers do you know who will sword fight in a wizard costume, lunge in some shorty shorts, or seamlessly transform into a lame dad? I mean, we're talking about a superstar who FULLY knows that he's a walking meme, but embraces it and continues to propagate it in various ways. I guess he's not too worried about his cool meter—he just wants to have some fun.

ONWARDS, MINIONS! TO THE LOOKS!

Tina Fey, Amy Poehler

If you're anything like us, you may be wishing it was Sunday instead of Friday. Sure, your weekend would be over, but you'd get to see these two beautiful angels of comedy on your television screen! In case you somehow missed the news (I really don't know how you could, TBH), Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are hosting the Golden Globes again this year, and next year, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. In order to properly honor these two women (and to justify spending half of our work day watching Saturday Night Live skits from 2006), we decided to take a look at the fashion from some of their best SNL skits.

Join us, if you will, on a trip down memory lane. If you watch every video you can find, it'll be Sunday before you know it! Perfect weekend!

We hope somewhere Lady Gaga is taking at least one day of vacation. Last week, she kicked Monday off by releasing her long-awaited ARTPOP album in the U.S. AND premiering the world's first flying dress. On Tuesday, she was honored as one of Glamour magazine's Women of the Year. On Wednesday, she was rumored to be the next face of Versace. She opened both an ARTPOP pop-up shop and Times Square's brand spankin' new H&M store. And of course, this weekend, she was host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live. Lucky for SNL, if there's one performer the concept of "quick changes" isn't lost on, it's Gaga, and her ep (in keeping with, you know, her everyday life) was full of rapid outfit switch-ups.

OPENING MONOLOGUE

For her opening monologue, Gaga performed a parody of her own "Applause" single. Rewritten to celebrate cheap applause and all the ways a host can pander for it, the rendition Mother Monster performed for the Studio 8H stage was jazzier than the original, and Gaga played it up with sparkly flapper fringe and a glamorous Marilyn Monroe-esque wig.

WAKING UP WITH KIMYE

Lady Gaga

In stark contrast, Gaga's first character was a bespectacled Apple Genius plucked from the mall for Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's fictional morning show, Waking Up With Kimye. Naturally, Kanye (played by Jay Pharaoh) challenges her on her genius title, and though Kim is wearing a white "Givenchy dress and Gaga is wearing her character's frumpy work uniform, Yeezy still says Kim wore it better. In a moment of total self-awareness, Genius Gaga says, "Honestly, I don't care about fashion. Sometimes I think that people who try too hard with their outfits are maybe hiding something," then blinks knowingly to camera behind her thick birth control glasses. "Like come on, dress like a person."

katy-perry

ICYMI, Katy Perry was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend, and she put on a SHOW, you guys. The pop star sang two songs off her upcoming album, Prism (which rolls out on October 22nd), and per uzhe, she did not shy away from onstage theatrics. Many musicians tend to use the studio’s compact performance space as an opportunity to strip down their typical set and get back to basics—but let’s be honest: there’s nothing “basic” about the woman who brought us a boxing ring under the Brooklyn Bridge.

I'm pretty sure we can all agree that Miley Cyrus is having the best year (as far as notoriety, anyway) EVER, and this week surrounding the release of her Bangerz album drop—her first new music since her dramatic image overhaul and the pixie cut heard 'round the world—has been one of the biggest. On top of the album, there was the launch of her Miley: The Movement documentary and of COURSE, her stint as both musical guest and HOST of Saturday Night Live this weekend. We already know that Miles is a world-class chameleon, off-stage AND on (shape-shifting was basically the entire premise of Hannah Montana, right??), but SNL tooks things to the next level. While we typically reserve our Look By Look breakdowns for music videos, we're making an exception because this is toooootally worth it.

VMA INTRO SKETCH

Hey look! It's us! Miley's now infamous MTV VMA performance obviously needed to be addressed in her hosting episode, and why better time to do it than at the top of the show? And Miles even brought back her silver fuzzy bear leotard (sans nude latex) and baby raver buns for the occasion.

OPENING MONOLOGUE

For her opening monologue, M kept the two-knot 'do (let's be honest, there was no time to switch styles) but wore it with a vintage Versace houndstooth suit set with a double-breasted cropped jacket (modified to be extra cropped) and zippered pencil skirt. Not pictured: Bobby Moynihan doing his best Wrecking Ball nude.

Kanye West

Kanye West performs "New Slaves" on Saturday Night Live.

If you are, in any way, a Kanye West fan, the likelihood that your weekend was insurmountably OWNED by Yeezy (or rather, by Yeezus) is a good one. Ye kicked off our Friday night with the drop of a new song, "New Slaves," and accompanying visual. A music video of sorts, Team Yeezy didn't just upload the clip to the interwebz; instead he took the "New Slaves" premiere out into the physical universe, setting up viewing sites in some 66 worldwide locations and projecting the visuals onto choice buildings. After a short intro loop of discount price and sale tags, a massive tight-shot of Kanye's face staring squarely into camera and rendered in grayscale, a kind of verse-spitting Yeezy version of Shepard Fairey's OBEY Giant, appeared sprawling on the walls and windows of museums, universities, hotels, landmarks, and (most notably to us) high fashion boutiques and shopping districts across the globe. The track itself is fraught with controversy, its lyrics jarringly blending racism and consumerism, and with projection sites like FIT University, New York's 5th Avenue Prada store, the Chanel boutique on Rodeo Drive, and Versace's Miami house, it's unavoidably clear that fashion is at the center of focus.

Justin Bieber

Judging from the constant activity on the #BieberOnSNL trending topic, we're not the only ones SUPER excited for Justin Bieber's doubled-up Saturday Night Live stint as host AND musical guest tomorrow night. It's not Bieber's first go-around at Studio 8H. Justin was the musical guest for Tina Fey's episode in 2010 (back when he was still rocking his signature "Bieber Hair"!!!) but was game enough to squeeze into a sketch of his own. Tomorrow night, though, The Biebs is putting on his big-boy pants (most likely of the sagging variety) for his first time hosting the whooooole show. Haven't reached critical mass of dizzying excitement yet? Maybe these behind-the-scenes snaps of Justin in swaggy leather jackets from his bumper photoshoot and rehearsals will send you over the edge.

I love these two as a couple. What a festive way to celebrate two important events in their life. Mariah looks like a dream.
